It's true that this may depend on the quality of your PC's sound hardware. A microphone signal is a lot weaker than an amplified keyboard output, so that might explain the noise! A headphone out --> line in connection should work, but maybe not --> microphone in.

You might anticipate a bit of lag if recording through a webcam, audio and video there isn't expected to be instant. A direct connection should give you no trouble.

This solution might be a bit overkill. If your computer has a microphone jack (line in), you should be able to just connect the line out from the keyboard into line in on the PC rather than using USB. If you're on a laptop you may have a combined jack, from which you could use a splitter to separate headphone and input. You'll need the 3.5 to 2.5mm adapter, but that's going to work just fine.

Headphone splitter probably isn't needed. Just run the audio into the PC and play it back using your PC while capturing it.

To put it another way. Connect keyboard to PC directly, pass audio to PC headphones for playback.

Say Hello! / Re: Sign-In Book

I'm not going to start an argument here, I think I have a different view of politics being everywhere -- but considering the current state of my country (the USA) I've felt it necessary just because there's just a lot going on throughout the world right now. I understand though and I won't bring it up, and I'm against things like slurs but I'm still pretty anti-PC (I guess my views on speech align with comedians like Chappelle, Jefferies, Lewis Black, etc).

In my view it's not really a "PC" thing, it's more that if you're not American the need to inject US politics into every board on the net is kinda exhausting. Perhaps it's just my perspective, but people really do seem to have stopped trying to understand eachother and instead try to isolate themselves from dissent by "claiming" what should be apolitical spaces for a particular ideology. In my experience this breeds angry, hateful users who go around raving about a caricature of their opposition.

I'm sorry to hear you've had a rough year dude, hope things get better soon. We're always happy to listen if you need a friendly ear.

Nice to see you, man.

Honestly I'm just not a fan of Discord. The chatroom format tends to crush any more thoughtful conversation, so it'll never replace a proper forum for me.

I came back to hang around because I also have fond memories of this place. Today's internet has become increasingly tainted by politics and the need to suppress anyone that might break from the majority view. On most social networks it's inescapable, and any medium will be exploited for the sake of political grandstanding instead of having that general discussion space like this used to be. It'd sad.

I do long for the simpler times, like when "hi r u 12?" was a meme or everyone was suddenly called "Vanguard". I'd even take that time when Joeno made the site look like unicorn vomit for April fool's. World needs to chill out.

Anyway, hope you're doing well! Also when did you become an admin?

The site peaked around 2008, since then the world has changed and online communities don't really use these sorts of forums any more. It's a great shame.

Most of us grew up, too. With that comes responsibilities and commitments that come ahead of spending time on sites like this one. Sites like blocked are still going but there's less of a community, and smaller places like this just didn't stay updated which made traffic decline. That said, this community saw me through some tough times as a teenager, so I'll always be thankful that it's still around.

That's fair enough, you might still want to figure out how you'll obtain all the event pokemon. Particularly in Gen 3 and 4 there's a lot locked for events that never actually happened IRL.

I like the idea of transferring forwards, good luck with that!

I didn't buy it. Honestly I foresaw them rushing out an unpolished game and locking chunks of the National Dex behind DLC for no real reason. That essentially turns it into a cash grab.

If the DLCs were going to be something like adding Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, etc in a similar manner to GSC's postgame, I'd be all for it. However, you can expect that you'll get minimal actual substance. I fear that if people make this a viable monetisation scheme than there'll never be another true "Catch 'em all" game again.

Realistically, I've been increasingly pushed away from the franchise since B/W. I couldn't even finish Sun and Moon because it just felt so needlessly railroaded. Why even give you control of the character if you're only allowed to walk 10 steps to the next cutscene? The regional forms are a nice touch, but the battle gimmicks, overcomplicated storytelling and linear design just doesn't make the newer editions stand out at all.

Honestly, it's probably not worth trying to record on the original hardware. Those screens don't transfer well and you're more likely to just spoil your own experience. A phone running an emulator or using the virtual console on modern hardware might be better for recording.

9
If you're playing a ROM on an emulator or similar, you might want to run it through a randomiser without the randomisation. Those programs can still apply useful tweaks like removing trade-only evolutions and porting later gen features to Gen 3 games.

Good luck!

Random Randomness / Re: first world problems

I had an Xploder Advance back in the day and had similar issues. I believe this once again comes down to regional issues. Unlike R/S, there are two retail versions of FR/LG: 1.0 and 1.1. Most carts which shipped in the US held 1.0, but for the EU release they updated to 1.1. This changes code compatibility and typically anything advertised as for 'Gameshark' will only work on 1.0 carts. I had to dig around for a long time to find working codes, I suggest you try a deep dive into old google results.

People are idiots, the panic buying is completely unnecessary and harms access to goods which would otherwise be plentiful.

We're fortunate that younger people generally don't get severe disease. Hopefully with appropriate measures and social distancing spread can be managed.

Check that you're using the codes for the correct version of the game. There are typically different codes for NA, EU and other regions. Most of the old code websites only provide codes for the USA cartridges.

That might be the better plan. You'll only need 130,000 for the coins anyway - by late game that's pocket change.

I know this forum is long dead, but I still look in every now and then for nostalgia.

You need 26 Nuggets. Porygon really isn't a standout, but it should do ok with the right moveset.

Good luck.
