Well look at this; a new board!
I'm just wondering what everyone else is currently reading through?
Currently i've got 'The World According to Clarkson' out of the Library. It's pretty good, although he does carry on a bit...
...since not every book needs it's own topic.
Anyone else?
-
The only books I have got are Clarkson ones, but the only things I read are text messages, teletext and writing on websites and stuff at school.
-
Inkheart series.
They aren't that bad, just in some parts the book rambles on and on and it repeats stuff. Tons of stuff. >.< I'm on the third one, Inkdeath, and I only have like 200 more pages and I'm finished. ^.^
-
After finishing Inkdeath, I've just started re-reading the Harry Potter series.
I'm also re-reading The Catcher In The Rye ready for English mocks, The Cruicible for Drama and The Time Traveller's Wife.
I'm gonna re-read the Old Kingdom trilogy when I'm done with those, and my lovely Chemistry revision guide. It makes for some really good bedtime reading, it truly does.
-
I just finished reading my Pita-Ten manga, so I should be rereading it in a few weeks/months. Other than that, I'm not reading anything... I might reread my Magical X Miracles manga or my KH manga...
-
Aside from the loads of Manga, I still have the Sprawl Trilogy By William Gibson, which I never actually stop reading, I just repeat it over and over. Plus the Bridge Trilogy, which I haven't finished yet. Hmm, also reading the art of war, Kierkegaards complete works, and Simulacra Et Simulation, plus some book on UFO sightings and The Age of Spiritual Machines by R.K
-
I am still reading The Da Vinci code by Dan Brown after I started it months ago. I just haven't had time to finish it.
And the other day I started to read Diving In by Kate Cann. I borrowed it from a friend a while ago so thought I should probably read it and give it back xP
-
Right now I'm reading nothing, sadly. Although, having recently moved my books from my bookcase, I see a few interesting ones that I never really properly read, and unfinished series. Might start reading the Inspector Morse series tonight maybe.
-
I am currently rereading Breakfast of Champions - Kurt Vonngeut.
I also need to get back to reading Me of Little Faith - Lewis Black.
-
I just finished reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.
-
Noughts & Crosses - Malorie Blackman
Harry Potter y la cámara secreta - JK Rowling
The Light Fantastic - Terry Pratchett
Mort - Terry Pratchett
The Illiad - Homer
The Bell - Iris Murdoch
Yeah.. I have a lot on the go right now ^^;
-
I am currently reading 'Danny The Champion Of The World' by Roald Dahl. I've read it before but can't remember much about it so I'm reading it again!
-
I've just finished re-reading the last 20/30 pages of Interview With the Vampire, which is by Anne Rice, so I'm about to go onto the following (in order);
The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice.
Queen of the Damned - Anne Rice.
Once I've finished reading them, I'm probably going to finish reading "DaVinci Code" and "Angels and Demons", both by Dan Brown, and then see what I get for my birthday. I'm interested in getting Chris Jericho's (wrestler) book, A Lions Tale iirc, but that's the only book I can think of at the moment.
I wouldn't mind reading "The Damned United" which is to do with Brian Clough's 44 days as Leeds United manager, of which is actually getting made into a film.
Doubt I'll finsh them all though, Interview with the Vampire was the first book I'd completely read, not counting wrestler books because I find myself more motivated to read them, since the Harry Potter series.. =/
-
I was reading Brisingr by Christopher Paolini, but I got bored... I'll pick it back up eventually. Currently I'm reading Twilight by Stephanie Myers.
-
I'm on New Moon right now, just started it a few days ago.
I don't really get the first chapter...
-
I already made a topic about this! But it was on Random Randomness and is well and truly dead so I don't really Care now...
Note that there was no intention of copying another topic. There wasn't another one on this board, so I made one. O_O
Hmm... everyone seems to love Dan Brown's work. I read The Da-Vinci Code, and it was fairly good, heh. Fuss.
-
At the moment I'm reading Classic Adventures According to Spike Milligan. Only on the Black Beauty part so far. Still, its fairly funny.
-
For my form class Tuesday morning's
Out Of The Shadows ~ Carol Hedges Got it at my school book fair for free because I was a big help ^.^ that was a year ago but I forgot I had it and never read it end so I'm doing that
There is a couple more but I'm not sure what the order of them goes in but this isn't the first 1 ...
Out Of The Shadows, Dead Man Talking, The Dark Side Of Midnight, Once Upon A Crime < Are there any others ??
-
'Mechanicum' by Graham McNeill. The 9th book in the series. And so far one of the best. They'll probably get to book 1093 before they manage to end the series.
-
Oh......I've just finished the Noughts and Crosses trilogy, reading Wolf of the Plains now, then hopfully my bday will be around so I might have all the twilight books, brisingr, net force, point of impact and a shiny new fableII guide to read. Im an avid reader>writer person
-
Reading right now The Bone Garden by Tess Gerristen.. I've read all of that series now except for this one, Life Support and The Apprentice... what? <__<
I think I've read Harvest, but I'm not sure.
Our house is full of books.. they keep getting lost and impossible to find.
That said, I'm not really reading it right now [not until november's over]... also have to get back to A Mathematician's Apology [G.H. Hardy, not tess gerristen].
-
Currently reading Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, and The Changeling, by Thomas Middleton.
-
I'm rereading Pita-Ten again already, but apart from that, the only thing I'm reading is The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell.
-
I'm reading a book that has about 5 different Simpsons comics in it. I like reading comics especially Simpsons ones.
-
I'm reading my way through the Harry Potter series. Man, it gets depressing after '... The Order of the Phoenix."
-
Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince
Te awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^.^
-
I'm reading the lovely bones. Though it's kind has... inappropriate stuff. D: But it's really good so far!
-
I'm reading Leven Thumps & The Whispered Secret by Obert Skye.
I want to read the new Pendragon though!
-
I'm reading Eclipse [Stephanie Meyer] right now. I'm pretty close to finishing it, I'm probley going to get Breaking Dawn later.
Eclipse wasn't that bad, but Jacob Black was really annoying in that book... Seriously.
-
I'm reading the lovely bones. Though it's kind has... inappropriate stuff. D: But it's really good so far!
That is a rather excellent book... in an odd way.. though the end bits annoy me for some reason.. meh.
some bits are a bit eh, I suppose.
Still, enjoy it yes x3; just glad to see a book I've read.
See how I masterfully write a review using the words "meh" and "eh"! O:
Marvel at my skill.
Anybody read Life of Pi? the algae island creeped me out the first time I read it.
-
I just started reading Artemis Fowl and the time Paradox.
Oh goody. =3
-
I've started to read this book thats full of horror stories. (I love horror books) Can't remember its name though.
-
I've started to read this book thats full of horror stories. (I love horror books) Can't remember its name though.
you dont have it with you?
-
I just can't be botherd to look in my bag. (Its a school book). But I do know what its called now. Its called Terry Deary's book of true horror stories.
-
Just starting Crime and Punishment now... By Fyodor Dostoyevsky. It's good, but all the Russian names are driving me mad.
-
Last book in Twilight. (Breaking Dawn)
BELLA AND EDWARD GET MARRIED? its getting too real.
-
I just finished reading Warriors, Long Shadows.
I know you three are Leafpools children.. you all share so much of a resemblance.. plus, is Jayfeather's blindness not a punishment from StarClan?
In LA tomorrow, we're going to be reading A Christmas Carol. I kind of want to read it, because it feels twice as cool reading the real book rather than a simplified version.
-
I'm reading three different books right now. I'm reading Fahrenheit 451 (http://V), by Ray Bradbury, Ringworld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringworld), by Larry Niven, and The Bible (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible), by various authors.
-
"The Book of Useless Information", an official publication of the Useless Information Society.
...It's a good read. >.>
-
Currently? We just finished The Scarlet Letter in class, so my new silent reading book is Gulliver's Travels, and we're all going to begin reading 'The Death of a Salesmen' in class.
After a bit I find it hard to refer to the book by it's title, and use the main characters name for it ^-^ The Scarlet letter became Hester, Great Expectations became Pip, and Gulliver's Travels is...well, Gulliver.
-
Last book in Twilight. (Breaking Dawn)
BELLA AND EDWARD GET MARRIED? its getting too real.
I really hope they don't, because I was planning on reading that series, and that would mean yet another thing spoiled. I've been avoiding seeing things to do with it, yet people are still spoiling it without warning =/
Anyways, right now I'm reading Generation Dead by Daniel Waters, which is a pretty good book.
-
Currently reading: The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells.
Only read the first couple of chapters so far. Its not too bad. I really hope I can find The Time Machine one day though.
-
We read the first act of 'Death of a Salesmen' and I hated it to tears. All it is, is a crazy old man who keeps living in the past, and everyone feeling bummed because they can't live up to someone elses expectations.
I see enough of that on the bus, why would I want to read about it in class?
-
I'm stuck reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I've read that silly novel three times already and out teacher insists we read it in his class.
I'm also trying to get a copy of Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury from my school library, but I've been too lazy to go get it.
-
I've head to read about Huck. It wasn't such a bad book, but it gets banned in alot of school for using the N word in refering to black people.
I also discovered that the last part of the book actually wasn't what Twain intented it to be, but he had been writing this for so long he either got sick of it and just wanted to end it/had to meet a deadline and was pressured to finish it.
I'de like to know his orginal ending...It was annoying that Stupid Tom Sawyer showed up, and made poor Huck jump through all those hoops, and Jim suffered even worse! It was majorly out of character for Huck to start taking orders from Tom, expically since he had been on his own for so long. Very disapointing ending it was.
-
As for "The Death of a Salesman", we touched a bit on it when studying tragedy. It's a sort of modern tragedy, the Tragic hero being the salesman.
-
I can't understand it myself. I dunno, we havn't read any past ACT 1, and it's a two act play...but I can't understand the guy, Willy. I mean, he was just constantly trying to live up to someone elses expectations of him. If he could just get over the facxt that he's not his brother, and doesn't have to live up to his ideals, then he'd be much better off. Same with both of his kids (Biff and...Happy?) they're both torn between doing what their fatehr expects of them, and doing what makes them happy. Well, Biff anyways, Happy just gets upset and feels he has to prove himself to everyone...
Yeah, I've never been one for proving my worth. If I'm happy, then I don't care what other people think, which is what's annoying me about this play.
-
I loved Death of a Salesman <3 Apart from Creative Writing, it's been my favourite coursework assignment so far in English. I thought it was very interesting, apart from the fact that we had to analyse practically every line. Other plays by Arthur Miller are great as well, such as The Crucible. I loved that one too =]
-
I'm...trying to recall...I know I've read The Crucible, but must not have made the top 10 if I can't even recall the main character...
-
The Crucible is the one set in Salem during the witch hunts and whatnot. A View From A Bridge is a lovely play by Miller as well. Much better than the Catcher in the Rye, IMO. Which has nothing to do with either play, but still.
-
Twilight. Again ._.
I was sort of inspired to read it because of the film I guess
Anyway, I've got the one with the new cover k. >>
-
Twilight and New Moon until I can get Eclipse. New Moon irritates at the beginning though I like it near the end.
-
We finished Death of a Salesmen. I was touched, kindof, though I wouldn't put it on 'Books I recomend for a sunny afternoon!'
-
Twilight and New Moon until I can get Eclipse. New Moon irritates at the beginning though I like it near the end.
*gags* Twilight... New Moon... *twitch*
As for me, I'm reading Brain Trust.
-
I'm reading three different books right now. I'm reading Fahrenheit 451 (http://V), by Ray Bradbury, Ringworld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringworld), by Larry Niven, and The Bible (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible), by various authors.
Yay Ringworld. And I recall Fahrenheit 451 is somewhere around this house, though I don't know what it's about. Is it any good?
'Mechanicum' by Graham McNeill. The 9th book in the series. And so far one of the best. They'll probably get to book 1093 before they manage to end the series.
Don't be so sure. The Wheel of Time was cut short at book 12 by the author's death, meaning he had to close the story there and the two other proposed prequels will not exist.
Currently I'm reading The Big Bad Wolf by James Patterson. Not the best book ever, but still very good. For X-mas I should be getting The Lake House by the same author, which judging by the previous book When The Wind Blows should be good, and I will also be getting Stealing Light by Gary Gibson and A Crown of Swords, Wheel of Time book 7 by Robert Jordan. I was also intending to get Fell by David Clement-Davies.
I also have alot of partially read books around. EVE: The Empyrean Age and two Anne McCaffrey books off the top of my head. Two by Peter F. Hamilton. Lucifer's Hammer and Moonseed I should get reading. Need to catch up on Broken Sky, Demonata, and Artemis Fowl series (I know the most recent one is hiding in this house SOMEWHERE). Lion of Senet. What else is there ... A.I. Love You vol. 2 I'm not sure I finished, but I also have no idea where it is. I can probably come up with more if I go and look through my bookcase. If I hunt through the house I'll eventually come up with some more too. I still need to find Maximum Ride book 3 for re-reading.
Tl;dr, I read a lot. A helluva lot. But still not enough. While I'm on that point of not reading enough, I have two 1200-page A4 books with tiny text I should get on with also. Not text books either.
-
Currently Of Mice and Men in English, and may have to read more after the half term break, such as How To Kill A Mockingbird... Great eh?
-
My newest reading material is my Chemistry revision guide. I need to learn the Empirical formula or whatever it is =[
Apart from that, I read The Tales of Beedle The Bard the other day, and before that I read some of the Silmarilion.
-
I'm not really reading anything at the moment.
My Dad is telling me I should read 'How to build a Time Machine' by Paul Davies.
-
I'm reading Kiss, by Jaqueline Wilson and Eragon by Christopher Palini.
I only ever seem to get so far with Eragon then stop x3, I'm at the part where he's just found the egg.
-
And I recall Fahrenheit 451 is somewhere around this house, though I don't know what it's about. Is it any good?
Oh, I had to read that for school. Tbh, it's actually quite good.
Right now I'm currently reading The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown.
I very much like that book; I'm getting sucked into it.<3
-
Also, I've got to pick up "The Great Gatsby" and read it before the Christmas Holidays are out. However, if I can't, I'm sure reading the plot summary works just as well.
-
Been reading Isaac Asimov's The Gods Themselves. Good book.
100 pages a day to finish it in three days. Then I have to read I, Robot by Asimov. Total should take me about 6 days to finish reading all three books.
-
Philip II - Geoffery Woodward.
Spain: Rise & Decline - Kilsby
Can tell I'm not reading for my coursework..
Also reading Golden Age of Spain by Henry Kamen, for a bit of light reading.
-
Well....
Recently I've fallen for Henry Porter's The Master of the Fallen Chairs.
-
I just finished a Simpsons comic.
-
A survival guide. I just finished that. :>
Now I am going to go find a book out of the bookshelf. :D
-
I've just finished Watchmen and have now moved on to Sin City: Hell and Back. Both very good comics. I'd rathered read the first Sin City comic than the 7th but thats the only one I've got at minute. They don't follow on so it doesn't really matter.
-
In English I am reading Educating Rita, and in Drama I am reading Stags and Hens.
-
I need to read pgs 191-199 in my english text book...Should proabably get on that...
-
Chemistry textbooks and notes >:
But I'm reading my "no brainpower required" books... which is basically anything I've read before. Those old fantasy-style ones... Garth Nix, William Nicholson, Phillip Pullman, etc O:
Yet to read: I've also got a book called "Sunshine" by.. someone... given to me by a friend trying to get me to like vampire books o.o
I've agreed to read it because there's a review by Neil Gaiman on the cover saying it's good xD
-not shallow-
-
Just finished - The tomb of hercules - rip roaring adventure reads like a low budget steven segal movie.
also - The judas strain - Sigma Force - good but not as good as previous sigma novels
currently on - the Gaudi key - poor Dan Brown formulatic rip off but based in Barcelona which I love.
About too start on some Lee Childs reads, and waiting for the next Matthew Reilly instalment.
-
I'm reading Know Your Traffic Signs, The Official DSA Theory Test and The Official DSA Guide To Driving. Fun fun fun =P
I'm also about to start reading The Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko, which looks pretty good. That will followed by Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer, followed by Angels & Demons by Dan Brown =] Then I still have a massive pile of books to go through and buy =P
I am also reading various text books for school.
-
I finsihed reading the Da Vinci Code... taht was a very good book.<3
Currently, I'm reading the first book in the 39 Clues series, the Maze of Bones.
Seems intresting. It's one of those treasure0hunting sort of things... awesome.^^
-
Finished pgs 191-199. Was all about the Rennisance. Not as detailed as stuff I've had to read before, but I'm sure we'll talk about it more in class tommorrow.
-
But I'm reading my "no brainpower required" books... which is basically anything I've read before. Those old fantasy-style ones... Garth Nix, William Nicholson, Phillip Pullman, etc O:
Great minds think alike xD the last things I read were Amber Spyglass [Pullman], Windsinger [Nicholson] and Sabriel [Nix], and I'm well into Lirael [also Nix] now. I'd forgotten just how much I love the Old Kingdom series <3 with all its SETS 8D
-reels off the bells / bright shiners, the precints of death, the bloodlines- .. so many lists <3 makes a Kay happy!
plus they're good books x]
-
The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, various short stories (compiled in the Necronomicon) by HP Lovecraft, and Hitler and Stalin: Parallel Lives by Alan Bullock.
I read whichever I'm in the mood for at the time, so I'm making vary slow progress.
-
Reading first chapter online (You can do that on a shopping site to see what it's like) but my book will be here tuesday or wednesday .. Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (http://i43.tinypic.com/vraey9.jpg)
Edit: I've had the book for about a week now and it's really really good !!
-
I just finished reading Arctic Drift by Clive Cussler.. was a wonderful book.
Now, I finally got my hands on Krondor: Tear of the Gods by Raymond E. Feist, so I can finally finish off the Krondor series. One more book to go and I own all of his books! <3 (except Faerie Tale, because thats just lame. -.-)
-
Just finished the Communist Manifesto.
Took like five minutes to read, heh. Content is interesting though.
-
Angel Blood.
It's a really good book about a place called The Bin, where they sort of look after (more like treat like crap) children who have mutations and birth defficiances. The main character, called X-ray, has see through skin for example. Theres also a girl with hands growing out of her shoulders, but the 4 main characters are sort of unneducated so they thing they're wings. o.o
Now go buy it >o
-
Reading "Dear Fatty" by Dawn French.
Not far in but it's good so far.
-
Just finished reading Sabriel by Garth Nix. I enjoyed it a lot; different to what I've read before. I like Nix's style of writing.
-
I've just finished Girlfriend In A Coma by Douglas Coupland and I loved it. Some reading guide book recommended it, so I decided to give it a try and ended up really enjoying it.
I'm going to search the house for a book I haven't read later, because I can't get to Borders until next week to buy a new one.
-
(http://static.hcrhs.k12.nj.us/images/bookworms/perks.jpg)
now THIS is an amazing book..
its all about the sex mentally unstable, drugs and rocky horror picture show.. basically the life of your typical teenager.. who has blocked out his past mentally.. but it all comes flooding back to him...
i cried when i finished the book :'(
-
Hamlet.
Not by choice mind you. So far I've figured out 2 things, Hamelts insane, and I'm not espically fond of translating Shakespeare...
-
I'm reading Lord of the Rings, for my school essay. I'm really enjoying it. ;D
-
Just started The Lizard Cage, by Karen Connelly. It's not the sort of thing I usually read, but it's interesting. Very moving so far.
-
The second book in the Twilight series. New Moon iirc.
-
I just finished a horror book called Burnt which has three different stories in it. Its by Anthony Horowitz or however you spell it. =P I am now reading a Simpsons comic book.
-
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon for the second time. An absolutely amazing book, probably my favourite. Lot of swearing towards the end though D:
-
I'm reading Wikipedia by Jimmy Wales. ;)
-
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon for the second time. An absolutely amazing book, probably my favourite. Lot of swearing towards the end though D:
That is such a good book. I had it in a Math Quiz once about primes, and I opened it and used the chapters.
=P
-
We semi-finished Hamelt, she had us each read a scene from the remaining two acts, and perform them for the class (because she ran out of time in making us read it)
Well, I win. Spoilers down below if you havn't read/watched the play yet~
I bet Hamlet died in the end. He did. Way to go Shakespeare, sticking to the same plot of killing off your main characters to end the story. I never even saw it comming. Only this time, you decided to kill everyone, except for Horiato. It amused me, becuase I was complaining earlier that poor Horatio didn't get that big a part in the play. Turns out, he's the only one to survive it! Irony...
I was sad to see Rosencrantz go... I liked his funny name.
-
My goodness! I'm reading a vampire novel. I know, the universe is starting to fracture.
Given to me by a friend who thought I'd like it, as it's a bit odd.
It's "Let the Right One In" by John Ajvide Lindqvist.
I'm reading it in English, ocourse.
Only read a little.
It's slightly twisted.
But intriguing.
Hurrah.
-
The second book in the Twilight series. New Moon iirc.
Yays! <3
I'm reading Eclipse.. though I should probably be finished by tonight.
Only two more chapters (and the epilogue) to go ~
-
I've just finished re-reading Eclipse as my holiday read, but I'm going to give Breaking Dawn a miss.
Started reading Macbeth again from the beginning, ready for my English coursework =[
-
^I'm sorry...MacBeth can drone on forever...
Now I'm reading Catch 22, since I have to read books from a list my teacher gave me, then write up a test on them that no one will ever use...I have to say, Catch 22 is amusing, much different then all those other horrible war books they've forced me to read ^-^ The characters more or less just keep spinning themselves around in a circle, in both their speach and actions, which explains the books Title, Catch 22.
-
^I'm sorry...MacBeth can drone on forever...
It's not that bad. We just have to read the first two acts, as that's what we're focussing on. We're watching the rest of it on DVD, which is rubbish.
I'm going to start reading Sabriel again soon... It's been a while since I last read it.
-
I'm going to give Breaking Dawn a miss.
O: But.. why..?
It's the best!
I've only gotta read a few more chapters of Breaking Dawn now~
-
I'm reading 'Granny' by Anthony Horowitz. I like his books.
-
Just finished Abhorsen, which means I've finished the Old Kingdom trilogy. Absolutely loved the ending. Full of excitement. Really liked the series as a whole.
Next on my list is Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver. By the end of the year I'll have probably have read through Kay's bookcase at this rate.
-
I'm in the process of reading two books: Lord of the Flies, and Inkspell.
Lord of the Flies is something I have to read for school, but honestly I really like it - it's very deep and has a lot of underlying meanings that I find interesting.
Inkspell is good all the same though (it's the sequel to Inkheart).
-
Hi again, I'm now on " The Suspicions of Mr Whicher" by Kate Summerscale. It's really good and has sucked me right in.
It is a Victorian era murder mystery based on the actual events at Road Hill House, Kent in 1860 and the musings of the actual detective who investigaed it.
:police:
-
Lord of the Flies is something I have to read for school, but honestly I really like it - it's very deep and has a lot of underlying meanings that I find interesting.
Ah, I had to read that for school as well. That was rather interesting, seeing what the boys would do on an island all by themselves...It was kindof saddening though, seeing how they behaved and such...
-
Ooh.. i've only gotta read one more chapter of Breaking Dawn.. then i'll have nothing left to read.. ;;
-
Finally finished Let the right one in [rather bittersweet ending, hmm], and I have before me a generic-looking crime/thriller/murder-mystery novel |D
Published a in 2003, so not that new, but I only got it a couple of days ago. It's The Double Eagle by James Twining. No idea if it'll be any good or not, so hurrah. Living on the edge am I.
-
I recently finished reading a book called "No Time For Goodbyes", I can't remeber whoit's by but it's about a girl who wakes up one morning and her family are gone, she's tries to trace them again years later, it has lots of good plot twists <3 I read it in one night, wanted to finish it x3
-

James Twinning is a great writer. His three books are great. Tom kirk is a great charachter who you can really get behind and root for.
I hope you enjoy this.
-
I've just recently gotten into the Shadow King series. It's a little bit of a step down from what I usually read, but I really like it. Very dramatic... o;
-
I'm starting Breaking Dawn, then I'm going to read The Host.
-
Finished Wolf Brother on Monday which I really enjoyed. I'd like to read the rest, going to get the next two from Kay when I can. Also picked up my Darren Shan books that I've been neglecting for a long time. Let them pile up so I had a backlog of three. Whoops. However, I finished Demon Apocalypse on the same day as Wolf Brother and finished Death's Shadow earlier today in my free at school. Have Wolf Island to read, which I will at some point this week. Glad I've caught up with Grubbs, Kernel and Bec <3
-
I finished reading
Artemis fowl and the opal of deception
Vampirates
Lost city
Horrible geography wicked islands!
Now reading Eye of the Sun 8)
-
I'm currently reading LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring. It's been a while since I read it, so I thought I'd read it again.
-
In English I've been reading various poems from Seamus (not Lit) Hanley (I think that's his last name, or it's Heaney is something) which has been boring, but they aren't that bad. Digging is quite an interesting one, as is the one about his dead brother.
-
^ Heaney! I loved studying him <3
He does such morbid things with potatoes xD
Prefer Clarke though, I presume you're studying her too?
-
He does such morbid things with potatoes xD
Prefer Clarke though, I presume you're studying her too?
I swear he has a potato fetish... :P
And Clarke as in Gillian Clarke? Not yet, but we should be doing her after Heaney, although this sounds very rude.
Maybe we will learn about her soon though, and we can compare and contrast our views about her? I'll probably hate her because she isn't doing anything with potatoes...
-
I'm reading A Christmas Carol
I got it for Christmas and started reading it then but left it for quite and I have got back into reading it

Prefer Clarke though, I presume you're studying her too?
I loved her poetry. <3
I thought it was rather amazing. ^^
I can't believe it was 2 years ago that I studied that. xD
I'm rereading my manga, and I'm hoping to move further with Naruto soon... but other than that, I'm reading The Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell for my Set Text exam unit for Philosophy. Also, should be reading Twilight soon since Cora is forcing the book upon me.
-
I'm reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time right now. By Mark Haddon.
A great book indeed. This is probably the... seventeenth time I read it. *nods*
-
Just finished Catch 22. I enjoyed the ending, it gave me a big grin, at the glimer of hope it left the main character with ^-^ And for once, the characters I really cared about didn't die at the end!
-
I'm reading yet another on of those Simpsons books - with comics in them.
-
I'm reading Brisingr, the crappy final thing of the crappy eragon series.
I hate it but I have nothing else to read. -__-
-
Twilight by I forget her name but everyone knows who I'm talking about so it doesn't matter (I thought it was about vampires and it turns out to be a romance book ugh!)
Granny by Anthony Horowitz (Got hooked on Horowitz after reading the Alex Rider series)
Duckling Ugly by Neal Shusterman (Unwind was the first book I read by this author)
52 Volume four (It's a DC comics)
Great Expectations by what's his face (For school but It's so boring so I'm just gonna fake through it)
Planning to read
The Demonata Series by Dan Sharren
More Neal Shusterman
More Anthony Horowitz
More DC comics
Any suggestions to what I should read next?
-
^Read Angel Blood.
It's totally unknown and things, but it's absolutely amazing.
It's about these kids who have like, birth defficiences, like one of them was born with only 1 layer of skin, one of them has wings, and one of them doesnt have eyes. Basically is revolves around them trying to escape from the asylum that they have been inprisoned in to icolate them from society. o.o
-
^ that sounds.. incredibly like Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment.
Maximum Ride is about these kids who were experimented on and given wings and avian bones.. and they often have problems, like one is blind (and there are other failed experiments mentioned, can't remember specifics though).. and a group of them try to escape the laboratories in which they were made and imprisoned xD
I want to read the MR books again now <3 but I don't have Saving The World And Other Extreme Sports D:
-
Angel blood sounds good. I read Maximum Ride last year. I read The Dangerous Days of Daniel X this year but it wasn't as good as the Maximum Ride ones.
-
I agree =[ Daniel X was crap! It was just "this happened then this happened then this happened".. and it was really weird too O_o this guy fancies a girl he made up?
now reading: Maximum Ride <3
-
Angel Blood was made before Maximum ride: Angel experiment. xP
Plus the girl with 'wings' just has hands growing out of her back. The other kids are braindamaged so they just call them wings. xP

Experimental and Theoretical Comparison of Actinide and Lanthanide Bonding in M[N(EPR2)2]3 Complexes (M= U, Pu, La, Ce; E=S, Se, Te; R=Ph, iPr, H)
Scientific papers are fun to read...

Yeah, A structural and Theoretical Investigation of Equatorial cis and trans Uranyl Phosphinimine and Uranyl Phosphine Oxide Complexes UO2Cl2(Cy3PNH)2 and UO2Cl2(Cy3PO)2, was a much more interesting read.
-
I've just started 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck. It's very good so far.
-
Reading " Tracy breaker" only if I could find it.
-
Just finished 'The Damned United' today, thought it was a great read. Really changed my opinion of someone I always regarded as one of the best ever English managers, now I've got a lot more respect for his assistant who was the 'head scout' behind it all (I'm talking of the late great Brian Clough and Peter Taylor).
I've got The Vampire Lestat to finish now, then I'm moving onto 'The God Delusion', got 'Fight Club', 'Queen of the Damned' and 'Hardcore Diarys' (Mick Foley) to read at some point though. =]
-
I've just started 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck. It's very good so far.
Trust me, it gets depressing real fast. Steinbeck I enjoy, because he writes in a language that's understandable, but he's not one for cheery happy books...
Utack's side note: If you ever have to do a report on a book where you need to quote other's reviews, Pick 'Grapes of Wrath'. Do not pick 'In Dubious Battle' by Steinbeck, no one cares much about it...even though it's just as interesting a read imo...='(
-

The only words I understood there were structural, cis and trans. And Phosphine, oxide, theoretical and investigation, of course. D:
I am reading Twilight. It's a "meh" book. I hate Edward, Bella is OK, but I really like Mike. xD
He amuses me.
-
Finished Wolf Brother on Monday which I really enjoyed.
Oh god yes.
I still need the next book from that series, might need to re-read the last book
I love that series ;u; you deserve a cool point.
Also, i'm reading Watchmen again, nearly finished, going to read that book everyone goes on about, the curious incident with the dog in the night time. It sounds decent.
-
Another poem from Seamus Heaney, and a very crap one at that with one about Frogs. It was really boring and uninteresting, I didn't pay attention to it all.
-
I started reading Watchmen again upon realising I probably won't get to see the film. Its good.
-
I started reading Watchmen again upon realising I probably won't get to see the film. Its good.
That...that's why i'm reading it again too /sob
And because i need to read it over, i think i missed alot of stuff the first time.
-
Right now I'm read "Naughts and Crosses"
....
Makes me cry ;_;
Third time I read it now xD
-
Superior Saturday by Garth Nix
I'm really enjoying it so far

Highly accurate calculations of molecular electronic structure.

For some reason I never seem to understand anything you say....
-
Well, I just got done reading "Impulse", I think it's the 4th or 5th book in the "Crank" series. All I have left is Impulse.
-
For some reason I never seem to understand anything you say....
Then my job here is done.
-
I started reading 'The Amber Spyglass' by Philip Pullman yesterday. It's very good so far. I only have a hundred or so pages left, though.
-
Highly accurate calculations of molecular electronic structure.
Whoo, I'm guessing this would be more advanced than A2 Chemistry standard? Because if it is it sounds fun. ^^
Then my job here is done.
Yet I understand most of what you say. ^^
-
It's computational chemistry to a certain extent. It's basically techniques for computing stuff from QM. It's for a third year physics project at Uni, so a bit above A2.
-

Xagor must be a genius.......
(and my IQ is most likely my age.....)
-
More poems from Seamus Heaney, and another one about Potato Digging, hoorah! (Notice Sarcasm) I swear he must have a potato fetish, in this one he talks about the Potato Famine and extends everything about death, too depressing for my liking.
-
"Sunshine" by Robyn McKinley.
yes, another vampire-involving novel. phh q:
Not bad.. though some parts of it seem like a bit of a deus ex machina... such as who her father is being conveniently revealed at the right time.. eh, at the time it just suddenly seemed to come from nowhere -shrug-
some bits I like, though.. and I like the world which is built up in the story.
-
Just about to start "Silverfin" the young James Bond story by Charlie Higson.
-
Wooooooooo! I love the Young Bond Series. It is so cool O0
-
Right now i'm reading two books
1. Blood Beast by Darren Shan
2. Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
-
I got Ulysees by James Joyce out of the school library the other day (it's supposed to be one of the best books written, or so i herd). I've read about ten pages of it, and so far it's making me go "what?", so I'm hoping it'll make more sense when I read a bit more of it.
-
I'm reading "Two Bidoofs For Dummies - By Mudkipz."
I'm nearing the end of Red Dwarf, Better Than Life by Grant Naylor.
Now I have to choose which book in the series to read next. Backwards, or Last Human... Hm...
-
the back of a can of coke-cola.
-
I was in the middle of New Moon a while ago, but it got a little boring, then my oldest sister got into twilight and she read the first book in like a day so I was trying to hurry up and read it so she could have it, but I didn't do it fast enough so she just took it. =p
Once I finish the twilight series I'll go back to the Inheritance Trilogy, I got bored at the beginning of Brisingr.
-
New Moon right now, but it's terrible. I'm on Chapter 3 or 4 and nothing about it makes me want to read. It annoys me. D:
Reading Fruits Basket, too. I need to read volume 4 right now.
-
New Moon right now, but it's terrible. I'm on Chapter 3 or 4 and nothing about it makes me want to read. It annoys me. D:
Even though I'm no Edward fan, I do admit that the books are a wee bit boring without him. New Moon is an odd one, Bella never shuts up about how much pain she's in. >_____>
But once you get around to chapters 13-16 or so, it gets a little better.
-
I just find the whole idea of a sequel silly, like as if she was thinking about money rather than a plot. It sucks.
-
I'm currently readin Alan Carr's book.
It's pretty funny, but not the funny you see when he's on the T.V, dunno whether it's a good thing or bad though, fans could be disappointed, but then again, it would be boring if he just did the same things as he did on T.V.
Anyway I'll read furthe ron and see how it goes from there.
-
The posts above this one, that's what I'm reading, and also this one.
-
The posts above this one, that's what I'm reading, and also this one.

I don't really understand what you're saying, lol.

I must have been really tired last night. ><

It's not a joke for me. That's what I'm reading - what's on the screen.
In books you say? Oh alright. I'm reading a horror book by R.L.Stine.
-
The first Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya novel
which I'm really enjoying reading
-
Currently Reading Inkspell-Conelia Funke
-
The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde.
Eh...3 characters. The main character who is much to eaisly influenced, the first side character who so far hasn't done anything but watch the main character become corrupt and painted, and the second side character who'se helping the main character become corrupted.
...Oh, and a bunch of Paradoxes. ...Ungh...At least it's more or less easy to understand, as long as you don't try to understand any of it.
^(Yes, that's a Paradox, or somthing close enough to it. The whole book is more or less like that)
-
(Kay can help me out here)
A Gillian Clarke Poem, talking about a lake and how she refers to her mother as a heroine, only I forget what it is called. Not that good imo.
-
Cold Knap Lake! <3
I love the last two stanzas to that.. the whole metaphor of the lake as memory, beautiful.
-
^ You like it? I thought it was a bit crap, and it tried to represent too many things, making the lake resemble a state of confusion in my eyes. Although I did find a balance of love and hate towards the lake, and how it can be good and bad. Shame about the girl though in the poem, things go from bad to worse for her.
One thing I like about it though is how it compares with Heaney poems as they both are based on memory, and how they react towards the thought of it, as well as when it happened at that time.
-
I loved that poem! <3
I loved pretty much all of her poetry, it's all quite nice.
-
I guess that would be a 'Teach Yourself Dutch in 3 Months' book.
That's not too weird right?
-
Right now it's Terry Pratchett's Men At Arms.
-
Reading Oath Breaker by Michelle Paver now. Finished Soul Eater last week and Outcast last night. Really enjoying the story so far. Really didn't like Seshru the Viper Mage.. nasty woman. Started to gain some respect for Kin-Fedinn, whom I didn't like at all throughout the first four books.
-
Another poem by Gillian Clarke, and it is such a warm and excellent poem in which she talks to her daughter personally through part of it, and talks about her to us. Great stuff!
-
Still reading New Moon, and all life within the book has ended. >:
Seriously, got to Chapter 13 and everything has gone boring again. D:
-
^ poor Webby xD and you still have two books to go, both much longer~ -delights in your suffering-
Right now I'm reading my Mechanics notes, trying to figure out how to do this damned homework question :[

on your little mission through my bookshelf xD hmn.. what should I lend you next?! D:
-eyes Artemis Fowl..-
Mmn I hated Seshru too, nasty she is :< I never really warmed to Fin-Kedinn.. not sure why. He just grated on me.
Renn Renn Renn (and Wolf) <333
EDIT: that genuinely was a typo P: lawl.
-
^ poor Webbz xD and you still have two books to go, both much longer~ -delights in your suffering-
You mean poor Webby there don't you? Le gasp!
-
I'm currently reading Marked By P.C. and Kristin Cast. Got all three House of Night novels, just started the first waiting for classes to start.
-
Just finished A Streetcar Named Desire. Best play ever, I must say. And I'm now attempting to keep reading the Kite Runner. Both have to be done for English. Kite Runner's so long and boring though... And has gay child rape in it.
-
I just started "Backwards" by Rob Grant.
It's a murder-mystery that takes place in a backwards universe. Amazing.
-
I'm reading the book thief. AGAIN. i need to buy some new books ;;
-
^ poor Webby xD and you still have two books to go, both much longer~ -delights in your suffering-
Without happy Jacob, and as painful as it is to say, stupid little Edward and his lovely family, the series is boring. >:
I honestly know I shouldn't continue, but I find it hard to leave series of books alone when I've started.
-
I'm reading the book thief. AGAIN. i need to buy some new books ;;
I love that book! <3 I do believe I may have to read it again now that you've said that o: wonder if it's as good the second time around.
-
lol just read that Kay edited her post at the start of the page :P
That poem that I was on about was called Catrin as well. Got another one or two tomorrow in English, so I will provide feedback with that.
-

Isn't that one of the Red Dwarf books?
-
Turns out I did more analysis on Catrin, although I read a bit of one about Baby Sitting.
-

Indeed it is. The sequal to "Better Than Life."
-
Indeed it is. The sequal to "Better Than Life."
That was a good book. Far darker than the episode. Loved it :D
-
I was gonna say Watchmen buttt...I'm not exactly reading it, more skimming though it for bits i MAY have missed.
so I have 1984 right next to me,. I'm considering reading that...or going to find the curious incident since my sister hid it before i got to chapter 2 (I put things off too much)
-
That was a good book. Far darker than the episode. Loved it :D
Hm. I prefer it in book form to the TV episode simply because it's longer.
-
I'm not reading any book at the moment, but I've just finished an Anthony Horowitz book. (I can't remember the name for some reason!)
-
I'm reading the AQA Chemistry revision guide at the moment, and attempting to remember how to spell Phenolphthalein. Yay GCSE revision.
-
Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox.
Brilliant book so far. Holly Short has always been my favourite throughout all of the books.
Omnitool I want one. ;___;
-
Phenolphthalein.
You need to remember that at GCSE? o.o
I only learnt about it this year, and I'm doing A2 Chemistry.
Hmm, still reading New Moon and it's got so many ups and down is must be going through a rough patch in life. D:
-
I'm not reading any book at the moment, but I've just finished an Anthony Horowitz book. (I can't remember the name for some reason!)
Ah yes, I remember the name now. 'The Greek Who Stole Christmas'. That's a good book... It's one of the Diamond Brothers books. I've read the others in that 'series' (if you could call it that) as well. My favourite has got to be 'The Falcon's Malteser'. And yes, it does have a chocolate Malteser in it. o.o
-
Right know, I am reading harry potter and the half blood prince for the 3rd time.
I like this book =3
-
I have to reread Educating Rita to get more quotes for my Essay so I can bump it upto A*, everything is all good regarding it. Pretty pleased with myself if I am honest.
-
Right know, I am reading harry potter and the half blood prince for the 3rd time.
I like this book =3
I've read all of them and seen all the ones that have came out. The mocies are good, but it doesn't beat the books. ;)
-
Just starting 'Going Postal' by Terry Pratchett today after I got it in a charity shop shomewhere in London. It's pretty darn hilarious so far, Mr Groat FTW.
-
I'm reading 'What Katy did' by Susan Coolbridge.
-
You need to remember that at GCSE? o.o
I only learnt about it this year, and I'm doing A2 Chemistry.
Yup, we've been doing about titrations and stuff, and have been using that. It's on the syllabus too, I think.
I've now moved onto AQA revision guides for The American West & Medicine Through Time and Duffy, Armitage & Pre- 1914 Poetry.
-
Yup, we've been doing about titrations and stuff, and have been using that. It's on the syllabus too, I think.
o.o
Whoaaa. I don't remember doing titrations at GCSE. I probably did a sucky course. D:
Finished New Moon, so I've got nothing to read.
-
o.o
Whoaaa. I don't remember doing titrations at GCSE. I probably did a sucky course. D:
Titrations are crap, the experiment i had to do for it was boring. Waste of some lessons if you ask me.
-
I just finished harry potter book 6.
I have gone back to the twilight series and am reading new moon for the 1st time :3
Posted on: April 07, 2009, 15:36
And now I am onto eclipse and finished new moon.
-
I finished reading Darren Shan - Hell's Horizon last night. I couldn't put it down!
I'm currently reading Bodas de Sangre again, because I need it for coursework =[
-
...my recipe folder as I wanna know what to cook for my boyfriend tomorrow.... yea I keep a recipe folder
-
I'm reading Twilight at minute. I'm about two thirds of the way through it now. Its pretty good but a bit too sickly (y'know what I mean...) for my liking. There best be some fighting soon in it...
-

There isn't any until Breaking Dawn. The other vampys are like 'GRR', and Bella's like 'whoah'. And she saves her people, and everyone lives happily ever after.
I'm reading "Breathe", for the second time. Very good, but I wish it was more wordily :D I know that's not a word, but yeah. I'm not complaining 'bout it.
-
There isn't any until Breaking Dawn. The other vampys are like 'GRR', and Bella's like 'whoah'. And she saves her people, and everyone lives happily ever after.
It's hinted quite heavily near the end of Twilight and during New Moon though. Needs more action. D:
-
Dragon Keeper.
LololdbookIdugup.
-
I've just begun to read 'The UnDutchables' ^^
I don't think I could ever eat a herring in one go o-o
-
Just finished 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' by Oscar Wilde. Gotta say, I'm not that surprised with the ending...
-
I just finished The Hunger Games. One of the best books I've ever read in my life. No joke.
I am serious, you think a book is something you lay back on the recliner and read until you doze off? Pfft, this book made my heart beat faster as soon as I opened it, and I lay awake for hours, wondering what will happen next. Trust me, I'm an animal book person, but this book will prove to be addictive until the very last page.
-
I just finished reading a book called Tell No One, by Harlan Coben. It's a crime book but it was excellent.
It's about a man who's wife gets killed; 8 years later she sends him an email and he ends up going on the run.
-
Just starter reading George Orwell's 1984 for school. I can see it'll be one of the weirest book I've ever read.
...but, probably one of the coolest. =D
-
Just finished reading 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy. Great book, hope the films lives upto it.
I'm writing some fan-fiction at the moment. Based on Adam Warrens the Dirty Pair series.
-
I had to once again read Educating Rita to find quotes to improve my essay even more. I think I'm definitely bored of the book now.
-
I'm reading the Warrior's third series, on book number 4. In school we are reading this SUPER boring book about 5 sister's in the dominican republic and there's a bad dictator and blah blah blah it's sooooo boring. I think it's called In The Time Of Butterflies :P
-
"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time".
I don't like it. The way it's written annoys me.
-
I've stopped reading "Red Dwarf: Backwards" now. I don't care about Ace Rimmer, for smeg's sake! Too many Ace Hole chapters in one book. >:(
-
Currently reading the buyer protection policies on eBay.
Kinda got conned by someone selling LeafGreen. All I wanted was a fuller Pokédex on Diamond :'(
-
I'm currently reading my revision pack for my French speaking exam.
-
Panic by Jeff Abbott
Things are going well for young filmmaker Evan Casheer - until he receives an urgent phone call from his mother, summoning him home. He arrives to find her brutally murdered body on the kitchen floor and a hitman lying in wait for him. It is then he realises his whole life has been a lie. His parents are not who he thought they were, his girlfriend is not who he thought she was, his entire existance has been an ingeniously constructed sham. Evan's only hope for suvivial is to discover the truth behind his past.
Bought this at the Smiths in Waterloo when I was waiting for a train back home earlier today.
-
I'm currently reading my revision pack for my French speaking exam.
Good luck with that, those exams are horrible. ;-;
I currently have Eclipse to read now that Cora has given it to me... not sure when I'll start it though. :\
-
Good luck with that, those exams are horrible. ;-;
Thanks... It's worse because I have that and my Drama practical on the same day =[
Now I'm reading my German presentation. There's no way I'm gonna remember all of this =S
-
Thanks... It's worse because I have that and my Drama practical on the same day =[
Drama Practical is awesome but horrible, you get so nervous with it. I had the whole day to practice before it though, I'm on C already through Practical alone which is awesome. Good luck with yours!
Currently reading the buyer protection policies on eBay.
Damn you eBay!!
-
I started Eclipse yesterday and I'm on chapter 13, where things get pretty interesting. Some bits have been "meh", but it's much, much better than New Moon.
-
I am reading Confessions Of A Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, as well as still reading The Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko. Both good books but I just haven't had time to finish them.
I am also working my way through the AS Geography Edexcel text book as well as the AS OCR Physics text book. Yay.
-
I'm on Chapter 27 of Eclipse now. I only stopped reading because my desire for the computer was much greater.
One chapter and an epilogue to go. Wow, that was fast. o.o
-
I've almost finished the Kite Runner. That book's almost killing me. I shoulda read it like 6 months ago when we got given it... Only 4 more chapters though. Its not a bad book when you get past the raping.
I'm also reading New Moon. Boring as hell. Twilight is so much better. Never thought I'd ever say that...
-
Hairmutt: Can I have the TV guide
Curtis: I am reading it.
Kerri-anne: Curtis you can't read, I am reading the second lord of the rings.
Hairmutt: Curtis TV guide?
-
Me? I'm reading Slaughterhouse five...I need to finish it and create a test on it for my Teacher by May 19th...Think I got a chance?
-
At the moment I am reading Chapter 3 of my Psychopathology text-book.
It's not as interesting as I'd hoped ¬¬
-
Uh, The Hippopotimas by Stephen Fry.
How rude. :c
-
In school we have to read Cather In The Raye (or Rye I do not know xP) I like it a WHOLE lot better then that stupid Butterflies crap xP
-

I'm re-reading CITR at the moment, ready for my GCSEs. Less than 2 weeks to go now =S
-
Ahhh, Catcher in the Rye...Not sure if I ever really got the meaning of that book, but it wasn't that bad.
I've just finished Slaughterhouse 5. Gotta admit, I can't tell up from down in that book...We more or less end at the beginning, and find the ending halfway through, if we were to look at it Chronologically...But then again it's all about Time and such, so I guess it's structed that way on purpose...
-
Was browsing charity shops for something new to read and I came across Postcards From No Man's Land by Aidan Chambers. I'm two chapters in so far. It has one of those awkward writing styles that takes a chapter or two to get into, has that typical "each chapter is narrated by a different character telling their own story" style, and the descriptions have a few gems (such as the waiters "fluttering in and out of canopied cafés like birds from a nesting box) but as soon as the narrator starts moving they get kinda hard to follow. I had to really concentrate to figure out what was going on.
Not to mention the alarming description of the girl playing bongoes in the plein.. -shudders- ;;
I think the odd words of Dutch thrown in are integrated quite well though, it's usually fairly obvious what they mean, without the author resorting to pasting dictionary definitions in the middle of the page like Markus Zusak does in The Book Thief xD
Still, it's alright. Quite enjoying it so far, it's just not grabbed me yet.
-
Now I'm on Pre 1914 Poems, and they aren't interesting, except for The Eagle, as it is short and sweet. Exam will be soon, so I'm going to go through my Anthology thoroughly.
-
Georde R.R. Martin's "A Clash of Kings", from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.
Purely epic. It's like... enjoyable Tolkien. Okay, I'm half-joking, I found the second book of LotR a colossal bore, but I know I'm part of a distinct minority, don't roast me. =P
-
Pre-1914 poems for me now, and stuff from Duffy and Armitage too. The Laboratory is rather awesome, and Kid is a great poem too =]
-

Ha ha, poor you, Duffy and Armitage aren't as good as Heaney and Clarke. They would so kick their ass in a tag team match, you wouldn't bet against them =P
Too many poems though for my liking, dare I say it... I want Of Mice And Men back! O_O
-
Reading A Break With Charity. It's a book about a girl in the Salem Witch Trials. I have to read it with a group for LA.

Ah, but Education for Leisure is an amazing poem! Shame it's been taken off the syllabus, really.
Back to CITR again. Gosh I'm bored of this book =[
-
Today I read about:
Obesity, Bulemia, Anorexia, Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning and Habituation. All this in various textbooks ^^
-
Right now I'm being forced to read Under the Mountain for English. The last book I read because I wanted to was Promise of the Wolves by Dorothy Hearst.
-
I'm reading Of Mice Of Men again sort of... great...
Only a little bit on it though, just to recap on it before the exam.
-
Do my Quantum Mechanics notes and exam papers count?
I suppose I did finish the 1st Haruhi Light Novel earlier in the week...
-
currently rereading "Hell to pay" by shaun hutson.. I thought I'd lost the book and then I found it yesterday, so.. celebration read o.o
then I shall reread "Pig Island" by mo hayder.. again, thought it'd gone missing, but my mum had borrowed it, tsk :c
I did buy a large batch of typical crime novels from tesco a couple of days ago, though :v ...there was a sale.
so shall have a go at those when I've finished these.
-
Reread Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and now I'm reading Deathly Hallows again. I'd forgotten how Holocaust-esque some of the Ministry's actions are.. having the Muggleborn register, pure-bloods being the "superior race" and not breeding with "undesirables," telling the public that Muggleborns were trying to bring down the pure-bloods and that they had "stolen" their magic.. hmn.
DOBBY ;_;
-
I tend to have times where I read for half a year, and then lose interest and repeat. At the moment, its the Guiness Book 2009, just for laughs.
-
I'm reading "Red Dwarf - Backwards" again, as well as two series written by friends of mine. I'm neglecting all three, though. DX
-
I'm rereading The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke, I haven't read it in years. D:
-
Just finished: Nothing to Lose by Lee Childs.
Just starting: The Decieved by Brett Battles
Awaiting: The Geneva Deception by James Twinning, Five Greatest Warriors by Matthew Reilly, The Unwanted by Brett Battles
I think I'm going to read Scarecrow by M.R. again
-

Hedwig, on the other hand... ;_;

Hedwig, on the other hand... ;_;
Hedwig AND Dobby ;_;
I'm reading Catcher in the Rye as fast as is possible, as my exam is tomorrow and I completely neglected to re-read it properly. I'm also going over the notes for my poems =[
-
yes, Hedwig ;;
Haha, I remember the wonderful speedreading of set texts before English exams.. I almost miss it. Almost P: I actually only read half of Frankenstein before my AS exam, which was.. probably a bad idea, but there y'go xD;
Seriously, there's that much junk to write about in that book that you don't NEED to read it all to sit an exam on it.
They've gone and changed A-level English now.. so you don't get the text IN the exam. You're supposed to learn it all D: I find that ridiculous.. very glad I sat it the year before that changed. Don't make it any more of a memory test than it already is! :c
Good look, you GCSE'ers, for tomorrow ^_^
-
I actually only read half of Frankenstein before my AS exam, which was.. probably a bad idea, but there y'go xD;
As young as I am, it would be surprising to hear that I read that entire book on my own free will. For an independent novel project.
It may also be surprising that I am currently reading Twilight.
Yes.
Twilight.
;.;
And I was planning to finish Warriors: A Dangerous Path by the last day of school. I'm barely halfway through it nao... ;.;
-
I finished reading Megan by Mary Hooper today. I got it today too, but it's a little small and I read it through Geography and R.E when we were watching films.
I can't wait for when the Megan 2 goes back into the library. It's really good, and curse the person that took Megan 2 out.
-
I'm reading a translation of "Murder Trials" by Cicero. I'm so prententious. It's really good though.. he has a fantastic talent for speaking that is noticeable even in the modern word.
-
Island by Aldous Huxley.
This, after having read Brave New World
-
At the moment i am reading The Damned Utd, after seeing the film i was curious if the book lived up to its dark portraial.
-
Matilda by Roald Dahl.
Poor girl... I wish I could give her a hug but she's not real. D:
-
The Thinking Ape by Richard Byrne
...
It's part of my module reading
-
I just finished Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer and was a bit disappointed with it =/
Now I can't decide what to read. Will probably either be Necropolis by Anthony Horowitz, Glass Houses by Rachel Caine, or Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman. I have like 8 or more books that I haven't read yet =P
-
I'm reading New Moon at the minute. Started it like a month ago then got bored. After finally watching Twilight and thinking the film was good I thought I may as well read the next before that film comes out. I'm also reading Doctor Faustus for English. 17th century plays are hard to read...
-
A horror. Dracula-braham stoker. (name of authors secondnake is probably mispelt) really good book.
-
Sandstorm By James Rollins the first Sigma Force novel
-
Well in English we're reading How To Kill A Mockingbird, I didn't get it at first but I do now. We're watching the film with it ;-;
I also have to do a personal study book, write a report on the theme ect, I've picked the Hunger Games and finished it yesterday. It was really good book but I cbb'd with a big essay about it D:
-
My notes... I have exams in over a week :'(
-
Nothing right now, but soon I'm going to be reading Ender's Game, and then 1984.
-
Finished re-reading the Old Kingdom trilogy the other day, and now I have nothing to read =[
-
I'm reading something so sophisticated... it's so unbelievable...
Yes, it's a Mars Bar!
Might enter the code into the website to see if I win a ball, although I don't need one.
-
I would say I'm reading Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah... but... I finished it yesterday afternoon after I bought it. D:
I'm definitely going to look for Falling Leaves (her autobiography) because this was a basic look at a small part of the content... I want to know more about her life.
-
I just finished reading Breaking Dawn, and I actually thought it was a pretty good book; the best of the Twilight series too.
Breaking Dawn > Twilight > Eclipse > New Moon
Now I am back to reading Glass Houses by Rachel Caine, and may start another book at some point. Probably not until I finish this one though. This book seems pretty good too.
-
I would say that I'm reading Raven Rise.. but I just am not even halfway through with it.
the book mark's been in there for ages
-
I've decided to give the Twilight books another chance.
-
^ im on Eclipse =D
i liked new moon.. theres a part i want to see how they adapt into the movie.
-
I've started reading The Wind Singer by William Nicholson; I bought the trilogy this afternoon after searching my local WHSmiths, and it's been worth it. <3
-
hurrah <3
-another fan of those books right hier-
I'm reading "Bad Things" by Michael Marshall. I love it so far.. may have something to do with the fact that I only read it a bit of a time at night, but it's wonderfully creepy.
A tad predictable in places, and I think I can guess the ending.. so long as it's not executed horribly then I won't mind.
far too many books have been ruined by terribly-written endings D:
-
Just about to finish the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (y'know, the novel). Better than any other incarnation of it really (anime and manga versions). Now I've gotta wait until October for the second novel to come out...
-
I'm stuck reading Pride and Prejudice for the AP English Literature class I'm going to take this year. Not too bad a novel if I say so.
MUCH better then Mrs. Dalloway, the other book I had to read.
-
one of the Gossip Girl books. . . can't remember which one. ^^;
I just finished P.S. I Loathe You from the Clique series, too.
I personally think they're better then the Twilight books haha. :3
-
i've been re-reading the chronicles of ancient darkness recently. i've not read the new book yet, i only read up to outcast and that was about 2 years ago, so i might as well read the last few before i read the new one so i'm all caught up.
i got some money from my lovely gran last week, so i'm going to go and buy this little graphic novel i saw called maus. it looked interesting so i'll probably enjoy that.
-
The Naruto Shonen Jump Manga at the mo.
I need the next in the series ;-;
-
I'm reading a book called Blood Ties by Sophie Mackenzie. It's for my english personal study D: I would tell you what it's about but I'd spoil it x.x
-

Not reading anything atm, but the books I've read in the past month are:
Nineteen Eighty-Four - George Orwell
Animal Farm - George Orwell
Firestarter - Stephen King
Spirit Walker - Michelle Paver
The Orwell is great. I recommend both books to everybody; the messages are so profound.

-
I've just read the boy in striped pj's.
-
I finished James and the Giant Peach a few nights ago. Why do I love reading children's books? D:
Now I'm reading Brisingr by Christopher Paolini. I preordered it, read a little bit into it and got really bored, lulz. Now I'm back into it~
-
Currently reading Play Dead by Richard Montanari. It's rather spiffy thus far, though I'm only about 12 chapters in.
-
Right at this very moment: The booklet that came with the soundtrack to Doctor Who series one and two.
-
while i am still reading "to kill a mockingbird' i am curious about one thing..
has anyone here read/or is reading a book called "the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime"?
that is a marvelous read.
-
"If On A Winter's Night A Traveler..." english translation by William Weaver
epic.
-
has anyone here read/or is reading a book called "the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime"?
that is a marvelous read.
Yup, it was compulsory reading for us in Year 9.
I'm currently flicking through the Chemistry textbook I bought yesterday. I have a lack of new books to read =[
-
I am reading Darren Shan's Dark Calling, and i am reading (again) the boy in striped pj's.
-
Yup, it was compulsory reading for us in Year 9.
what did you think of it?
year 9.. thats cool.
-
It was pretty good... I'd read it a year or so before we read it in class, and really enjoyed it then. But reading it at the excruciatingly slow pace that it was read in class put me off of it a bit...
I think I'll re-read it when I go back to school ^^
-
REJOICE~!!!
I finally have the final Pendragon book, after reading the series for nearly 6 years, yes... six years.. I finally have the last book.
Oh boy.. what will I read.. I finished Harry Potter a year or so ago and I'm almost done with Pendragon.. my world of literature is ending...
but wait.. I can still read.. Leven Thumps.. thank heavens.
-
I'm forced to read Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, for a summer reading project. I think it is a pretty dull book.
I just got finished reading My Sister's Keeper though, it is a very epic and suprising book (especially the end!)
-
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (http://a4.vox.com/6a00d4142cb4cc3c7f011017cd8ab4860e-500pi).
I'll also collect the other two:

City of Glass (http://www.suvudu.com/suvudumedia/cogcover.jpg).
I fell in love with it, would really make a good movie.
-
Just finished re-reading Slash's autobiography. Funny, truthful and in a word- 'excessive'
Seriously, a gallon of vodka A DAY?
-
reading American Gods [author's preferred text, hur 0o] by Neil Gaiman... finally xD;
I got Anansi Boys a few years back and loved it, [& Neverwhere is possibly my favourite book] so.. finally bought this.

I could have read that book and done an exam on it for Philosophy... but it's quite big and Plato's stuff is quite deep. We went with Russell's "Problems of Philosophy" instead, but I think I may try and read The Republic if I chance because I want to see how much Plato actually set in stone for us (Plato was one of the major Philosophers of his era and most of his work is the foundation of current philosophical debate).
-
Mmm, yes, I know. I don't do philosophy, it was just there as an example of an allegory, and I was suprised when plato wrote it (after he witnessed socrates' execution, so the book says..)
yet to read it though and doubt i will understand most of it, but i'll give it a try.
;D
-
I spent the last week in Greece, and I managed to get through 4 books from sitting by the pool and on the beach xP
First I read Glass Houses by Rachel Caine, then The Host by Stephenie Meyer, then Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman, then Confessions Of A Shopoholic by Sophie Kinsella. I managed to leave the last book by the pool though =[

After finally finishing New Moon (it was boring...) I've managed to get onto Eclipse which is slightly better. I'm also having to read Dracula for English. After them two I'll most likely read either Breaking Dawn or Lord Loss by Darren Shan (bought that for 99p!)
-

-
the host? i wanted to read that. is it good?
I found it to be a bit confusing at first, but then I got into it and thought it was pretty good. It was also a really addictive book, so I ended up finishing it within days xP
The next book I'm going to read will be The Dead Girl's Dance by Rachel Caine, I think =]

Any other Twilight fans?
-
Yeah, I kinda like them. I've been wanting to read them too, haven't found the time yet though.
-
I read The Fellowship of the Ring when I was 13, but I found it was boring and dragged on too much and stopped not too shortly after the second chapter. I don't think so anymore though, although I am just a tiny impatient to get to the 'action'.
-
Right now I am reading
*dun dun dun*
To Kill A Mockingbird
That book is all win
-
The Book thief by Markus Zusak
-
Currently reading a book by Richard Wilson - "Can't be Arsed (101 things not to do before you die)."
207 pages of "why go to machu picchu, it's too far, there are too many tourists and you can see lots of pictures of it [minus dozens of backpackers]" and "don't listen to [album], there are only a few decent tracks on it anyway and it's popular because people buy it and forget they own it so buy it again, thus rendering its status as a classic."
huzzah for negativity and laziness <3
-
I just finished reading Linwood Barclay's second book: Too Close to Home. It was really good. It's about a family who's next door neighbours get shot but they find out that they were the intended targets. His first book: No Time for Goodbye is great as well ^^

I know for a fact that you all will think that the list i am about to type is Stupidly long, and that i will probably over-load my brain soon because i shouldn't be reading so many books at once.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay
JPOD by Douglas Coupland

I've replaced the Jodi Picoult book i finished with another one.
Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult.
-
The Book thief by Markus Zusak
Difficult book to get into, I found, a bit like wading through treacle at times.. but I very much enjoyed it overall (: good choice.
I'm reading two books atm:
Michelle Paver's Ghost Hunter, which is fantastic right up until the big battle scene at the end where I totally lost track of what was going on O.o; didn't seem all that dramatic really, more sort of clumsy and a flukey win.. and I thought it was a real shame we didn't see ANY proper spirit walking in this book D: it's such an interesting concept.
and Richard Dawkins's The Selfish Gene, so that I have something to flesh out my university application with if I do Biochem P: I slugged through the preface and then realised I couldn't tell you a thing about what it said, but the book itself is much easier-going and fascinating so far, though I'm only a couple of chapters in. I'm also hoping to find some sort of reason to like the author in the book, after The God Delusion became so fashionable among "researched" religion-bashers, which has made me subonciously dislike Dawkins xD;
-
and Richard Dawkins's The Selfish Gene, so that I have something to flesh out my university application with if I do Biochem P:
^5 Great minds think alike.
I'm not much of a reader, but needed something to do during my lunch breaks at the zoo so I bought that book on recommendation of my friend and my biology tutor. I haven't reached the end yet... it's actually quite dull and repetative at some points, which led me to skim read half of each chapter... and I just sort of lost interest. Must finish it though at some stage. It is a very interesting book when he isn't repeating what he's explained infinate times already in previous chapters.
-

-
Well, right now for a reading assignment, I'm now reading The Dark Side of Nowhere by Neal Shusterman. It's fast-paced, but the good kind.
The first sentence of the first chapter is a spoiler which is a paradox.
But, today, I read the first two chapters of The Wave by Todd Strasser. That was somewhat sparky.

Just finished the last of the Demonata series, I've been reading that for years, sad it's finished.
-
I'm about half-way through Equal Rites.
I think I'm in love with Terry Pratchett. Even more so.
-
Finished Breaking Dawn last night. A bit sad that I don't have any new vampire books now!
-
reading through " The Tales of Curtis Talli the pirate squirrel" and sorting the spelling mistakes.
-
I'm reading the book theif for like, the sixth time ._.;
I don't know any other books I can read tbh
I'm fussy and get bored easily.
-
I've just finished The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffeneger. SO good.
Now reading Girls Night In which is about the ladies on Loose Women. Funny, indeed.. perhaps not for the younger ones though!
-
Cecilia Ahern~Where rainbows end. O.o
-
The Road - Cormac McCarthy.
Nine words:
"I don't want to set the world on fire..."
-
after reading the topic about
"the knife of never letting go"
i picked it up from the library and have just opened the cover..
WHOAA mass1ve
-
rereading "The Wasp Factory" by Iain Banks.. i enjoy it more every time i read it, heh.
maybe because the first time i was all "nooo the poor wasps ;_;"
a bit. what.
i really do like the black humour in it though. so long as it's not just me deciding that bits are funny when they shouldn't be.
but come on.. the way he killed esmerelda? xD
-
Gonna be starting Mort by Terry Pratchett tonight.
Kinda looking forward to it :D
-
Aside from reading through the eleventh chapter of my novel, The Cloud-Capped Towers (which incidentally is in the Art section of the forum [/shamelessplug]), and proofreading my eigth sonnet (which also is in the Art section in my poetry thread), I’m finishing off Paradise Lost. “Better the reign in Hell than serve in Heav’n”.
-
nearly finished "Birdman" by Mo Hayder.. got it in the post this morning and as a result have been not doing much work today 8D
i really ought to ration new books, otherwise i won't have anything new to read later :c
is rather good though, yes it is.. and apparently there's a twist to come [assuming that i haven't already read the twist, but i doubt it.. i have a faint idea what it might be about].
It's a tad annoying knowing that it has a twist, because i'm constantly looking out for hints to it D8
-
^ I find that xD knowing that something exciting is going to happen and wondering if you've read it or if there's something better to come.. or knowing that something will happen to somebody, and trying to pick up on hints of who it might be. I find that in films of books, too, I look out for clues for what I already know is coming!
Being ill has given me masses of reading time, so I've ploughed a little further on with The Selfish Gene.. but I dunno if I'll finish it before it needs to go back to the library, it really hasn't grabbed me. Finished Fermat's Last Theorem by Simon Singh, which I actually did find very interesting. And now I'm taking a break from my study books to read Syren, part of the Septimus Heap series <3 I love these books, they're so wonderfully innocent. And then I'll pick up Genome - The Autobiography of a Species by Matt Ridley, possibly along with The Crossing of Ingo. Hurray mermaids!
Plus I also want to reread the Fire Within series before laying my paws on Dark Fire, so I can decide whether to buy it or just borrow it. Might borrow it anyway and buy it if I like it enough. I love school libraries <3
-
Currently I'm reading The Kite Runner <3 I'm nearly done with it. =D <3333333
-
Earlier today I read The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allen Poe. There were some parts I didn't understand, like the end where everything spontaneously combusted. But otherwise, it was a pretty nifty little story. o.o
-
I don't know the exact title but it's a Masters Degree level textbook on Physics.
I'll write you some of it;
...characterized by exactly zero electrical resistance and the exclusion of the interior magnetic field (the Meissner effect). It was discovered by Heike Kamerlingh Onnes in 1911. Like ferromagnetism and atomic spectral lines, superconductivity is a quantum mechanical phenomenon. It cannot be understood simply as the idealization of "perfect conductivity" in classical physics.
In superconducting materials, the characteristics of superconductivity appear when the temperature T is lowered below a critical temperature Tc. The value of this critical temperature varies from material to material. Conventional superconductors usually have critical temperatures ranging from around 20 K to less than 1 K. Solid mercury, for example, has a critical temperature of 4.2 K. As of 2001, the highest critical temperature found for a conventional superconductor is 39 K for magnesium diboride (MgB2), although this material displays enough exotic properties that there is doubt about classifying it as a "conventional" superconductor. Cuprate superconductors can have much higher critical temperatures: YBa2Cu3O7, one of the first cuprate superconductors to be discovered, has a critical temperature of 92 K...
oh yes.
-
The Road - Cormac McCarthy.
Nine words:
"I don't want to set the world on fire..."
Totally couldn't get on with that book. Depressing, with no promise of better things...and without ruining the ending, I didn't go much on that either. Exceedingly unfulfilling.
Currently I'm reading The Kite Runner <3 I'm nearly done with it. =D <3333333
Loved that book. I really like how the author makes you hate the main character (for what he does as a kid) and then how you become more and more attached to him as the book goes on. Apparently there's a sort of...'spin off' called A Thousand Suns or something, and it centres around some random character from The Kite Runner (I think it's the orphanage bloke?) that I'm yet to read.
-
I've just started reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
Very interesting book about a true massacre. Good stuff.
-
Gonna be starting Mort by Terry Pratchett tonight.
Kinda looking forward to it :D
I love Mort, it's one of my favourite Discworld books.
Currently reading: Kitty Clark's Positioning in Radiography.
-
Reading at the moment:
Rebel Angels by Libba Bray
I'd make mention of the Clique book I'm reading, but on Tuesday when I had nothing else to read but it, my head nearly exploded due to severe bubbleheadedness.

-
The Pearl, by John Steinbeck.
I have to read it for school.
-
I love Mort
OMG, I hated Mort!
I'm reading Promise of the Wolves by Dorothy Hearst again, because it's just such an awesome book!
-
Soushisouai Note.
It's advised you don't google this up.
-
I'm most of the way through Coraline. Loving it too... defo gonna read it to my kids when I have them
-
I'm at a loss as to what to read now I've finished Fruits Basket.

Pride and Prejudice & Zombies - Jane Austen & Seth Graeme Smith
Unseen Academicals - Terry Pratchett
The Iliad - Homer
And some article by a guy called O'Connor about predynastic egyptian burial practices =] Le sigh
-
Started reading the first volume of Faust. It's a collection of short stories and manga or something. The first one which was based on xxxHOLiC was sort of interesting, but the writing style was so odd.
-
reading;
[Box Representation in Cat] Beast - You Can Not Pervert
Axis Powers Hetalia
APH is pretty accurate and funny. It makes History interesting, which is amazing.
-
currently reading
The Hidden City by David Eddings

Soushisouai Note.
It's advised you don't google this up.
You don't really read that, though, do you? I mean, its literary value isn't that much...but as for other values... ;D
-
You don't really read that, though, do you? I mean, its literary value isn't that much...but as for other values... ;D
Actually, if you read it in original Japanese (like I did) the story with that older stalker woman is pretty interesting in terms of how the guy talks.
-
Actually, if you read it in original Japanese (like I did) the story with that older stalker woman is pretty interesting in terms of how the guy talks.
Ooh, lovely stuff (you being able to read Japanese, not the older stalker woman). Ya talking about the guy who's constantly using the polite form of words in conversation with the woman, right?
-
... i'm reading Frankenstein.
I'm so excited. So very excited. -_-
-
I've settled on reading Pokémon Adventure. Which one? You'll never know! Muwahahahahaha-*kills self*;;
-
Currently about 2/3rds of the way through Nation by Terry Pratchett. Then I'm moving onto The Bodies Left Behind by Jeffery Deaver. I'm currently reading about 3 books a fornight which is the most i've done in a long time!
-
OMG.. Jeffery Deaver. Now there's a name I've not heard for a while! I have the Bone Collector at home. Whilst detective books aren't really my thing, I really enjoyed his work.
I'm still reading the same books, i'm afraid D=
-
Although it is going awfully slow, The Cry of the Icemark (Stuart Hill) still caught my attention. Maybe the evil general Scipio will come again.
-
I've been reading my AS PE and Business books to read over work from the past and to go ahead since me not being at school today has probably put me behind. I've gone over some new stuff, so hopefully I won't be too far behind in the next A+P PE lesson (it's split up into Anatomy & Psychology, Socio Cultural Studies and Acquiring Movement Skills) and the next Business lesson.
-

I have the Bone Collector as well, I read it a long time ago. TBH, I didn't even realise it was the same guy until you just said :P Made me get up and check the bookcase xD.
-
Ooh, lovely stuff (you being able to read Japanese, not the older stalker woman). Ya talking about the guy who's constantly using the polite form of words in conversation with the woman, right?
Yup. Because the gap between colloquial (co-lol-quial, amirite?) and formal language is much smaller in English than it is in Japanese, it's a lot more interesting.
Also reading now; Hayate No Gotoku. At a first glance it seems like it would be my perfect sort of manga, but the storyline is too heavy for my likings.
-
The Killing by Robert Muchamore is the book I'm reading. Its part of the CHERUB series and is really could! I've already read the first 3 in under 2 weeks!
-
I am currently reading 'My Life In France' by Julia Child.
It's an autobiography and I am loving the writing style. Her wit and use of words are really pulling me in
-
Last week I read Others See Us, this week I'm reading Singularity, and next week I'm reading Interstellar Pig.
All three written by William Sleator.

The Wanderer by Sharon Creech, part of a set of her books I got for Christmas. Their pretty good.

I am really close to the end now ^^
-
Finished Nation (ace), and that Jefferey Deaver book that I-can't-remember-the-name-of-because-I-didn't-enjoy-it-at-all.
Now, I'm reading a book called The Ancestor's Tale: A Pilgrimage to the Dawn of Life, by Richard Dawkins. It's a book that takes you on a backwards journey of four billion years with us, humans as the pilgrams. We are travelling though time to seek out our ancestors. Simultaneously every other living creature is setting off on it's own journey with the same mission. Each pilgrim tells its tale along the way and covers the processes involved in the unfolding of life on Earth.
If you're a creationist, I would think it's best to give this one a miss :P
-
Still reading Unseen Academicals. But I finished Pride & Prejudice & Zombies :D
-
Need to still get the former...
I suppose strictly speaking I'm reading Scattering Theory of Waves and Particles.

David eddings is my favourite author and that book was reccomended by my uncle when i found out i was reading his books. Out of all the books of his i've read my favourite characters are a tie between Althalus and Aphrael.
-
eddings is my second favourite fantasy author, coming after raymond e. feist [oh whom i own all of his books :D]. i loved sparhawk & sorgan hook-beak (from the dreamers series if you haven't read it) & althalus aswell. in terms of what david eddings books I have, only the dreamers series & the redemption of althalus & elenium & tamuli are on my shelves.. i need to buy the belgariad and the malloreon soon. i've read all of his stuff except the rivan codex, though
-
That reminds me, i forgot Longbow. The rivan codex is a complete history of all the kingdoms of the belgariad and mallorean, plus the preliminary notes and tips on how to write an epic fantasy if you didn't know.

I want to finish Brisingr but I got it for my 11th or 12th birthday and I gave up on it, not because its boring but because I wanted to finish the [first] Warrior Cat series; which I did... Two years ago.
Started the House of Night Series and I finished the first book in a day, but as I have no money I can't get the rest of the books =/.

I'm reading Eoin Colfer too, reading Airman. I love it :D there are a lot of, er, very lucky coincidences xD and I think Conor actually had a pretty easy time in the prison.. but I'm really enjoying it so far nonetheless. Quite a different writing style to Arty Fowl, of course, but definitely still Colfer.
-

I'm reading a French translation of The Rubiayat of Omar Khayyam, for no reason other than to be a pretentious moron.

I'm actually drifitng between 3 books.. Mein Kampf, The Host (Sephenie Meyer - the only decent book she's written!) and Total War (Chris Bellamy -it's a masisve book all about Soviet involvement in WWII)

otherwise, i'm translating a doujinshi from Japanese to English if you concider that reading, cuz technically, i'm reading characters.
-
I'm currently Evil At Heart by Chelsea Cain. It's the third book in the Gretchen Lowell serial killer series. The first two were really good reads, and this was a steal at £3.76 lol.. gogo Tesco. Anyway, Gretchen is a beautiful, smart, evil woman who has admitted to killing over 200 people. The main protagonist throughout the book is Archie Sheridan, a detective who is the head of the task force looking for her (she escaped from the police in the last book...) Archie has spent the last few months in the city's psychiatric hospital, battling with his addiction to painkillers, and his strange obsession with Gretchen, the woman who tortured him. It's stockholm syndrome taken to the extreme..
anyway, I definitely recommend these books, the first is called Heart Sick and the second Sweet Heart. You should read them in that order ;D
-
Ugh, I'm juggling quite a bit of stuff, some of it for school, some of it personal.
For English, I'm reading 1984. Pretty interesting stuff, with the communism and all. Still not getting into any developing plot yet though... hmmm
For Theatre Arts, if you count it, the script for "12 Angry Men." The advanced theatre class is putting it on and I'm one of the twelve angry men, arguably the angriest. Pretty damn good script, but it's gonna be a pain to perform. It's just three big acts, I never get to go offstage for a break or anything.
And then out of my own volition, I'm trying to read "Finnegans Wake" by James Joyce. It's probably my favorite book of all time, reading it aloud with friends was hilarious enough for me to actually willingly buy a book. I know.
-
book fair:
78.50, 2 bags full & 50 books later
so i'm reading "the god delusion"
what a buy for fifty cents
-
Just finished reading The Medusa Project: The Set-Up by Sophie McKenzie and Numbers by Rachel Wsomething. Both awesome books, Numbers was my favourite out of the two :>
-
At the moment, I'm reading Kiss Of Life by Daniel Waters and Knife Edge by Malorie Blackman, along with many revision guides relating to Maths, Geography and Physics.
I'm going to start reading Ill Wind by Rachel Caine at some point, along with the rest of her Morganville Vampires series. I have about another 10 books to read as well =P
-
"the doomsday key" by james rollins. Is okay so far.. apparently there are about five books that precede it in the series, so it's all a bit odd, hey ho 8D
mum basically just walked in and dumped a pile of those paperback thriller/detective/murder/ridiculously ott books on the table a day or so ago that her friend was going to throw out
so am reading my way through them
they all have titles like QUANTUM and SNOWBLIND which is nice.
but yeah that's the kind of thing i like to read, alas.
-
on & off: "paradise lost" by milton
-
"the doomsday key" by james rollins. Is okay so far.. apparently there are about five books that precede it in the series, so it's all a bit odd, hey ho 8D
I love the Sigma Force books. A bit fantastical but bloody good fun.
Currently reading Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. Not bad so far. also got the graphic novels of books one and two
-
"volume 1: masters of political thought: plato to machiavelli" is open right in front of me, on page 277
:) <3 machiavelli
-
I was always interested in reading about Machiavelli, even before I realised that Tupac went with the name Makaveli because of him. Might look out for some stuff about him.
I'm currently reading a lot of my books, mainly business for coursework and PE for revision. It just gets so repetitive and boring =/.
-
An Astronomers guide book with star charts and everything. Its amazing fair play.
-
The Book of Nothing.
It is about nothingness and zero. Its quite interesting to me although I don't know how many people like these sort of armchair scientist books.
-
^ ooh, I've seen John Barrow's books and thought they looked interesting, particularly the one about impossibility. Would you recommend the one you're reading?
speaking of armchair science, I'm reading Bad Science by Ben Goldacre atm after my biology teacher recommended it to me. I'm only a couple of chapters in but it's really good so far, and very eye-opening. I love a book that makes me think <3
-
I'm currently reading Hamlet by William Shakespeare.
To be or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing, end them.
-
The Thin Executioner - Darren Shan.
I must say I'm disappointed that this is only a one off and not part of a series, because it is brilliant.
-
Would you recommend the one you're reading?
Yes...maybe. I've got exams and a research proposal coming up sooner than I thought so I stopped reading about 20 pages in, about 5 minutes before that post!
One book I definitely recommend is Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything. I just love his style of writing. ^.^
-
^ xD oh dear. See I probably should follow your example and knuckle down to some proper revision, but.. nahhh P: I'll seek out the Bill Bryson book though for sure! I've been meaning to read that for a while.
-
I have many books I'm free to read at the moment, from the Wind on Fire Trilogy by William Nicholson to American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I even have the Twilight series to reread (but it's too boring Dx) or Chinese Cinderella. Or if I need mental stimulation, I've got As A Man Thinketh and The Path of Prospertity by James Allen.
But what do I choose to read?
McFly lyrics. <3
-
Redwall. I'm trying to make through it (again). there's a bad word here and there, and its just a little violent.
-
^ I remember those books, everything was so idyllic.
-
hoping to start reading scott pilgrim volume 2 by the end of today. just need to make my way to forbidden planet...
-
My D1 textbook 'cause I've realised I can't do half the stuff I need to do for tomorrow =/
-
Paediatric Radiography
I suppose its sort of interesting although I really need a book on child abuse instead.
-
currently reading Heart Shaped Box. it's a fantastic thriller with loads of plot twists and characters you can really feel for. Marybeth for the win!
Just finshed reading The liar by Stephen Fry. if you ever see this book then get it (it's about £3 in HMV at the moment). you won't be disappointed! it's full of wit, quick quips and over all hilariousness xD
-
Recently finished Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I'm reading some huge and ancient version of Sherlock Holmes at the moment xD
-
I'm reading City Of Flowers. I would like to move on to another series soon.
-
I finished reading Numbers 2: The Chaos by Rachel Ward and it was awesome <3
We're reading Chocolat in English, it's okay so far.
-
....hmmm? What am I reading? This, my dear, is called a book:yeswink:
-
I just started The Time Traveller's Wife.
I hate myself but I am liking it xD
-
hopefully by the end of the day i'll be reading scott pilgrim volume 6 :v
-
reading me some lu xun
penguin classics are so awesome
-
haven't really been reading much, baw.
still, right now it's "false memory" by dean koontz. Ha! I know.
Tried to find my copy of neil gaiman's "American Gods" but it appears to have vanished |:
I really need to buy me some more varied books.. all the unread ones I have are crime thriller paperbacks. Not sure where they come from, but they seem to appear faster than I can read them.
-
I am reading The second short life of Bree Tanner, Inkheart, Pet Sematary, by Stephen King and the first in The Vampire Diaries Series.
-
Mein Kampf. If you thought Hitler was mental before, this book upgrades him to complete and utter psycho.
-
Ernest Hemingway - The Collected Short Stories
Awesome. <3
-
I am currently reading Harper Lee - To Kill a Mockingbird
-
^ i've gotta read that for english, probably should start it. i've also got a couple of ben elton books that i've been meaning to read.
-
It's the first time I've read it, picked up the 50th Anniversary edition the other day. I really enjoy the style in which the book is written, a controversial topic seen through the eyes of two young children. I had a bit of trouble with ye olde language at the beginning, but now I'm a good chunk in it really helps conjour up meaningful images of how life must have been in the early 20th century
-
I never read that, oddly enough, We did Of Mice & Men instead.
I've started reading The Osiris Ritual by George Mann. It's.. interesting. I like the style it's written in, but compared to the book I was last reading (The Amulet of Samarkand), it's far mroe heavy going. We shall see though. I'm only a chapter in, after all, and it's the second in a series and I have not read the first o.o.
-
Ernest Hemingway - The Collected Short Stories
Interesting, more of his style of writing than the content, although that said the content is incredibly well-written.
-
just finished "Eon: Rise of the Dragoneye", by Alison Goodman.
Stalls and fairs are a great place to find interesting books for cheap prices :D
-
I'm currently reading A Little History of the World by E.H. Gombrich.
It's really interesting, may read it to my kids one day :)
-
The Fires of Heaven-Book five of the Wheel of time series-Robert Jourdan
One hundred percent awesome...If not a long series.
Next in line: The Burning Wire-Jeffery Deaver
-
The Call of Cthulhu & Other Weird Stories - HP Lovecraft
Fairy Tales - Hans Christian Anderson
I've also bought 'Les Fleurs du Mal' by Charles Baudelaire, which I'm only occasionally reading at the moment.
-
I've just finished The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruin Zafon. Absolutely amazing author, he's moved quite high in my opinion of him. I read The Angel's Game first, which was amazing, and I also read The Prince of Mist; however, this last book was written when he was much younger, and for children, and feels like a crappy fanfic compared to his full blown novels. It's still pretty good, but there are themes from Prince of Mist that are prevelant in the other two books, the latter of which are set in mid-1900 Barcelona. They're kind of related, set in the same place with a few characters that are in both books, but they're gripping, and beautiful to read. I love his sky imagery. <3
-
I finished reading The Osiris Ritual by George Mann last night. Amazing read, much better than I expected from what appears to be a cheesy Murder Mystery judging by the cover. I want moreeee...
I'm now reading Grimm's Fairytales. I read 26 last night, another.. lot more.. to go :D
-
I started reading Stace's copy of Breaking Dawn last night, figured I should read it while I was here. Up to chapter 3 now.
-
I'm reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold at the moment. I didn't really like it at first, but I'm enjoying reading it now that I've got into it more.
Next I have Double Cross by Malorie Blackman to read, followed by Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris, and then Shopaholic Abroad by Sophie Kinsella =]
-
the trial, franz kafka
wot iz dyztopeea?
-
I've just read a load of books whilst on holiday:
- The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold - didn't like it at first, but in the end I really enjoyed it
- The Dead Girl's Dance by Rachel Caine - 2nd book in this series which I'm also enjoying (I think there's 8 books out so far, so I have many more to read =])
- The Harper Connelly series by Charlaine Harris (Grave Sight, Grave Surprise and An Ice Cold Grave) - I hadn't read any Charlaine Harris before, but I loved these books. Couldn't put them down, and I need to get the 4th one. Will be moving onto the True Blood series soon, followed by other books she's written.
Now I'm reading Midnight Alley by Rachel Caine, the next in her Morganville Vampires series that I've been reading. Then Shopaholic Abroad by Sophie Kinsella which I forgot to read =P
-
Currently on book 2 of Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy. Would like to get the next book in line from Kelly Armstrong's Bitten and am being urged to buy at least one of the Discworld series.
-
I have been reading Raven Rise by DJ MacHale for over a year.
-
Just started "the memoirs of sherlock holmes", having finished the previous three books.. no, I have not read them before, and yes, I'm reading them because of moffat & gatiss's television series.
Original thinking is difficult to come by these days.
-
I just finished reading the lastest Artemis Fowl (first one was read to me in primary school, meh). The next one will be the last, it's like that "end of childhood" Harry Potter sadness all over again. :<
-
I have been reading Raven Rise by DJ MacHale for over a year.
and i still havent picked it up in months. i should get to that.. i read slowly but when i actually have the book in-hand the pages fly by.
-

Ooh, I hadn't realised that The Atlantis Complex was out already! Must've been away =[ is it any good?
-
I am SO CLOSE to finishing Deadly Décisions by Kathy Reichs. God she is good at crime thrillers!
-
Ooh, I hadn't realised that The Atlantis Complex was out already! Must've been away =[ is it any good?
I had no idea it was out either, only found out when a friend asked if I finished it yet! I loved it, does that great thing where it tells two seperate stories that tie together in the end, like in the first book.
-

Shall have to lay my hands on a copy of that then <3 hello Amazon~
For now.. I raided charity book shops today :B I've bought:
The Time Traveller's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
Coram Boy - Jamila Gavin
The Fire - Katherine Neville
Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Started The Time Traveller's Wife and am loving it, and shall work my way through the others one by one =] I love having a pile of books to read :D

I am currently reading the new cookbook my mum bought for me ^^
-
U.S. ARMY SURVIVAL HANDBOOK.
It's good. =]
-
How to do a literature review in health and social care.
Nice to get to your final year and realise the job isn't worth doing one of these.
-
The Piano Teacher by Janice Y.K Lee. I'm not liking the switch between two different stories, and although her writing style is interesting, it's boring to read. I'm usually interested in novels based on characters living in Japan and China, but the whole premise of the novel just rubs off as China being a randomly chosen location for English characters. :\
-
book fair yesterday. not as good a haul as the first time, only like 20 or so books. one of them is a gold leaf leather bound copy of anna karenina for only $9, crime and punishment was there aswell in the same set but was $20, decided against it since i already have two copies. and it's not exactly his dostoyevsky's best work, ehhhhh notes from the underground > c&p
anyway.
so i'm reading "what is to be done?" by lenin & "the lion the witch and the wardrobe" by c.s. lewis for school, isn't that a nice combo.
-
Let's see, today i bought HIVE: Zero Hour (finished) and Hunger Games:MockingJay. I've been looking forwards tho those books for a while now.
-
Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett... it was about time.

-
Reaper Man by Terry Pratchet
I want to reach the Hogfather by Christmas
I've read those two... such awesome books. Hogfather was the first I read, then pyramids. :3
My book was posted this morning, but i wasn't awake- need to collect from the sorting office tomorrow morning. Tis the second Anne Rice Vampires book: The Vampire Lestat.
-
I finished The Piano Teacher a few hours ago, and although the book started off pretty annoyingly, the plot picked up well and all the characters were used well. Quite a good read. =] I love buying books from charity shops ^-^
Gonna start reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman later, when I finish that I'll go buy two more books so I always have 4 set aside to read.
-
The Dark is Rising. 'Tis awesome.
I recently finish Fire Bringer and I have decided it is my favourite book. After all, who doesn't like novels about ancient Scottish red deer trying to gore each other? <3
-
Breaking Dawn...sigh. I wish I had more books ;]
-
I am reading 1984 for Honors English, and I am reading Dracula: The Undead for fun.
-
I am reading both Lords and Ladies by Terry Pratchett and The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers
-
currently reading some of the stories I wrote in college and Slash's autobiography (again, it's awesome). Got the first Resident Evil novel on order too, so that'll keep me occupied for a while
-
I am reading 1984 for Honors English
I just finished it, came here just for that. It's psychologically haunting me now. :<
I also finished Vinzi and Call of the Wild. My next book I haven't decided yet.
-
I recently finish Fire Bringer and I have decided it is my favourite book. After all, who doesn't like novels about ancient Scottish red deer trying to gore each other? <3
It always rather bothered me how similar that book is to The Sight, by the same author.. it's like he wrote the same story twice, just changing from deer characters in one book to wolves in the other.
I'm still reading Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.. uni has gobbled up my reading time =[
-
I just finished it, came here just for that. It's psychologically haunting me now. :<
I only finished the first "chapter", and I am totally mindblown. So much that I can't even describe it in words. In other words, it's haunting me, too, and I like it. :D
-
Harry Potter. Ready for the film. :)
-
Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett... I miss the witches :(
-
Finished Of Mice and Men a while back for school and stuff.
-
Winnie the Pooh and the Psychologists. =]

Engineering Mechanics: Statics & Dynamics by R.C. Hibbeler. Yay.
Also Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger, which is a bit more exciting =]
-
Doing a Literature Review in Health and Social Care
A Practical Guide
While I am getting bored of it pretty quick, as books like this go it isn't too bad.
-
Just finished Feet Of Clay and have now started Bad Science
-
I'm on the last chapter of the Road to Wigan Pier by George Orwell and after that I plan to read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
-
The Daren Shan Saga by Darren Shan. I have had the books for a long time and still haven't finished it yet. I just have no mood to continue reading so I read very little at a time. I'll probably finish by the end of the year or next year. ;)
-
Tintin and the Calculus Affair.
Time for some nostalgia. =]
-
The Battle Of The Labyrinth.
4th book of the Percy Jackson series.
I recently got back into the series so I might as well finish it.
-
Three by ted dekker.
Good book, chilling and gripping.
-
The Picture of Dorian Grey, 'cause i'm a philistine when it comes to anything vaguely resembling a classic and have never read it before.
thus far i am amused.
-
The Stand - Stephen King
A doorstop of a book. But it's a brilliant book, I'd easily recommend it to any Stephen King fans around.
-
Hogfather by Terry Pratchett.... FINALLY!
-
^ Yay =D
Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett.
I don't think I've read this one for several years now.

-
I'm rereading Harry Potter and Cirque Du freak right now... and some fan fictions of things I like. ;]
-
Just finished reading American Gods, finally. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book, and even though I liked how events panned out, the ending annoys me somewhat. :S
-
Mlia and reddit.
Yay. Wonderful websites.
-
Just bought Nation by Terry Pratchett. Will be starting it tonight. =]
-
Re-Reading Chinese Cinderella - Adeline Yen Mah.
Saddest autobiography EVER. Makes it sadder that it's an autobiography.
-
derren browns autobiography which isnt an autobiography
-
Re-Reading Chinese Cinderella - Adeline Yen Mah.
Saddest autobiography EVER. Makes it sadder that it's an autobiography.
<3
I want to read Fallen Leaves because it's meant to be more of an autobiography than Chinese Cinderella, which was aimed more at teenagers so it's brief and focuses on her childhood, I think Fallen Leaves covers her later life. I actually bought another of her books today, Watching The Tree, along with some of the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and a book called Shanghai Baby.
-
Started reading Gone by michael grant.
-
The Invisible Man. I gave up on Oscar Wilde and went back to the science fiction. Whoops.
-
Tempting Evil by Keri Arthur
The Vampire's Assisstant by Darren Shan
Stolen by Kelly Armstrong
-
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
-
The Screwtape Letters - CS Lewis
Man's Search for Meaning - Victor E. Frankl
Flowers for Algernon - Daniel Keyes
I'd highly recommend those three books, particularly Flowers for Algernon's novel(it also has a short story).

-
I'm reading Macbeth for English.
-
All I'm reading at the moment is this topic.
-
I'm reading journal articles about different working practices in the radiology department.
About 4.715 billion of them to be precise. Well okay not that many but still quite a few.
-
Would be post button ;]]]]
-
Stolen by Kelly Armstrong
Bitten was okay by my standards, but I wish I'd never picked up Stolen. What a waste of my good reading time. That book alone has put me off Kelly Armstrong completely.
Just finished Cell by Stephen King, bit boring but the middle was worth reading the book for.
Half way through Perdido Street Station by China Mieville.
-
Reading literature for my literature review. Got enough information on child abuse to last a lifetime. Fun times. :[
-
The Vile Village. I'm re-reading the entire Series of Unfortunate Events.
-
The Hobbit. I must say, It's totally spiffing!
-
I'm re-reading hush, hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.

*stares at Mulholland* er..... thats.. nice? *backs away slowly*^_^'
It makes for great bedtime reading :D
-
Across the Nightingale Floor - Lian Hearn
It's a very good book actually.
-
^ Nice choice, I quite liked the Otori series. You know they're going to make films too.
I think I liked the prequel more than the main trilogy though. :)
I'm reading research as ever, although I may branch out and read...un-published research! Fun never stops at my place.
-
Izzy, willy nilly. For school, though it's one of the most interesting books I've had to read for school.
After I'm done with that, Everlost.
-
I'm reading the Percy Jackson series. I'm on the third book, it's a hilarious series, even though it's really easy to read. :)
-
Back into my habit of reading two books: one for reading when back at the flat, and one for when out and about.
Currently the former is The Time Machine/HG Wells and the later is The Devil in Amber/Mark Gatiss.
As of yet no disasters with getting the plots tangled together.
Would be interesting though.
-
a tree grows in brooklyn
... school >_>
-
Down Among The Dead Men... a book on morticians ^^
-
I just finished 'The Sight' and am now onto it's sequel, 'Fell'. They're very insperational books; I think they've showed me how to love wolves even more than I already do.
ver good books
-
Nobody likes you - Marc Spitz
A biography on green day and how they rose to fame. Its really good, got it cheap in hmv c:
-
The Victoria Climbé Inquiry
Its for my work and I can't say I'd recommend it.
-
I've been reading the Hunger Game series as of late and it's quite brilliant, if i must say at the moment i'm waiting for the final book of the series to come, it's called Mockingjay, I think :3
-
Raised by Wolves.
I'm surprised that it has no bad language in it so far (most YA novels I know of tend to use language). I am very happy about this ;D.
-
I am currently reading my favorite manga,Claymore
-
Lord of the rings. The fellowship of the ring.
-
Douglas Hofstadter - Godel, Escher, Bach
I understand a scarily large amount of this without trouble. Makes me feel smart :)
-
The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. Fairly amusing, picked it up last night after my laptop overheated and killed itself [as per usual] so I may read some more tonight.
-
About to start Eagle Strike by Anthony Horowitz
Re-reading Alex Rider atm.
-
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith.
You heard me right. Zombies.
After this, I might reread Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter and Robin Hood Versus the Plague Undead.
-
Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen by Julie Powell
-
Currently reading The Science of Discworld II: The Globe by Terry Pratchett, Ian Stewart & Jack Cohen. The only SoD book I've not read yet.
The past couple of years I've been trying to re-read the entire Discworld series (including "The Science of" ones) in publication order "before the new one comes out." Since I started, two new ones have come out anyway. I was on Soul Music at the start of the year, so at this rate, I should manage it before Snuff is released.
-
I'm currently reading Horus Rising, part of the Horus Heresy series of books based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
I'm a huge sci-fi buff and have read through Asimov to Clarke to Heinlein... Dan Abnett (the author of this book) isn't up there with the greats but it is a genuinely cintelating tale. It plots the course of the great human empire at the peak of it's ventures into space and then lets you ride the spiral into the decay ridden vestiges that make up current Warhammer 40k lore.
I'd give the book a 8/10 on the Blyton Scale & the author a 7/10.
-
I'm currently reading Horus Rising, part of the Horus Heresy series of books based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
My brother keeps pushing those in my direction. Tempting indeed.
Just picked up the Culture of Fear Revisted by Frank Furedi, lent to me by a housemate. So far its nothing new but I've been told it gets interesting as you get deeper. I've really only just started so I'll reserve my judgement. =]
-
The Worst Date Ever by Jane Bussmann
So funny :D
-
Terry Pratchett - The Last Hero
Neil Gaiman - American Gods
Darren Shan - The Thin Executioner
Homer - The Iliad
Erik Hornung - Conceptions of God in Ancient Egypt
Unknown - Kheops and the Magician

Don Quixote of La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. Tis a good book, it's funny the way he dies.
-
Terry Pratchett - The Last Hero
Neil Gaiman - American Gods
Darren Shan - The Thin Executioner
Homer - The Iliad
Erik Hornung - Conceptions of God in Ancient Egypt
Unknown - Kheops and the Magician
i love the Iliad! read it like 3 times through! i am a fan of the classics.
right now i am reading The Diving Bell and The Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby
the author had Locked-in Syndrome when he dictated his words for the book to an assistant, only communicating by blinking hie left eye lid, as it was all he had control over after having a massive stroke.
it is a very quick and easy read and definitely worth a read. I strongly recommend it!
-
Neil Gaiman - Stardust
I've not really given myself chance to sit down and read it, shamefully. :S
-
The novelisation of assasin's creed brotherhood. Because I'm too poor to actually afford the game.
-

I finished "The Ring of Danger" recently. Great book. I really want to read Frankenstein or this one book my friend told me about which name I forgot, but it had to do with kites.
-
Great Tales and Poems by Edgar Allan Poe. I believe I'm on Black Cat now, but it's been awhile since I last read it, so I can't really remember, & I can't be bothered to get up any go look.

sick read
-
Ian McEwan - Atonement
J.R.R. Tolkein - Lord of the Rings - Two Towers
Children of Hurin
Lian Hearn - Brilliance of the Moon
Atonement is definitely the easiest. Children of Hurin is proving difficult because of the staggered, beautiful illustrations by Alan Lee. They're very distracting.
-
Wolf Brother - Michelle Paver
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling
-
Stange Deaths-James Dunning
The worst thing is, these are all true.
*Feels queasy*
-
^Read that...!!! The Jam ones weird!!!
When God was a Rabbit - Sarah Winman
It's so nice and sad and sweet!

just coming to the end of "The Difference Engine" [William Gibson & Bruce Sterling]
not as gripped by the plot as I could be, but the language and the characters and the detail and the way that the world is put together are absolutely lovely
i do have a soft spot for this sort of alternate history steam-powered thing
I bought a George Mann book recommended in xhanatos's thread on that premise alone, aharhar
though first I think I'll read the Mo Hayder book that's sat there looking at me
once I've finished this
I can't really read two books at once: I end up with a very confused idea of the plots
what is brainpower?
-
bones of the moon by jonathan carroll. first part was super boring, but i think i've gotten to the good part.
-
Crescendo - Becca Fitzpatrick
I can't wait for silence.
-
Currently reading Duma Key by Stephen King c: I'm pretty sure I'm reading the less-gripping moment, but if it follows the way Carriewas written, then I am absolutely going to love this book.
There's another book that I've got on the printer, which I've been forced upon by my friend. It's called The Red Pyramid, but I don't know the author of it xD
Aaaand there's a book in my school library which I'd love to take out. Forgotten the title, though. :v
-
Afterwards - Rosamund Lupton
Am enjoying it so far, had to get it after I finished Human Traces and The Naming of the Beasts that week. (Epic books, all of them. Read them.)

-
I am also reading Fear Street by R.L. Stine.
-
I finished Frankenstein. Next stop, LOTR. I already know The Hobbit, but I'm reading it anyway.

-
The Excorcist
Shiver

inheritance by christopher paolini. last book in the series, i hope i won't be disappointed.
-
Fallen by Lauren Kate.
I've read it so many times before, but the story is so good.
Hopefully I'm getting Torment and Passion, the next in the series soon.
-
I'm hoping to get books 1 through 6 of Warriors by Erin Hunter. Right now, Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. Reading it at school.
-
Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox - Eoin Colfer
It's basically one big, long collection of awkward moments.
-
Don't Blink by James Patterson
Amazing book, finished it a night or two ago.
-
We're getting closer to finishing Freak the Mighty. It's getting really suspenceful. Max's father, Kenny Kane, might be trying to kidnap him. We don't know yet.
I say we because my (small) class is reading it.
-
Don't Blink by James Patterson
Amazing book, finished it a night or two ago.
My dad just bought that book, and I'm hoping to read it after he reads it c: Really hoping it is an amazing book! <3
Just finished Duma Key after being put off from the long beginning for a good season or so. Awesome book when it picks up the pace, especially after you piece the various things in the beginning together and woah.
Going back to Insomnia. Another long beginning which I'd been put off from (again), but for longer. After reading Duma Key, I'm pretty sure that the lengthiness will be worth it c:
-
a clockwork orange
its about time i viddied this book
-
^real horrowshow my droog
I have a Kindle! Which is very exciting. I've spent the day downloading as much HG Wells as I can eat.
Though right now I'm rereading my way through a few Holmes stories in time for Jan 1st
finished Scandal, onto the Final Problem
saving Hound for afterwards because it's a full-length novel
did a dramatic reading of Empty House a couple of days ago which was ridiculous and gr8
YOU ARE MY TIGER
gdd moran i love you
after that there're those couple of HG Wells that I haven't read yet
well probably more than a couple but of the ones that I was able to find
oh the excitement
it's very nice having proper versions of things that I own and can carry about
aaand some HP Lovecraft because I've only read a few
The Colour out of Space being my favourite thus far
-
Right now, I'm finishing up Warriors: Into The Wild by Erin Hunter. Next, I have to read Warriors: Fire and Ice, also, by Erin Hunter. I have books 1-6 of the first Warriors books.
-
i'm reading the Beano Annual or i WOULD be had my parents not cancelled my subscription to the beano no WONDER i turned out a homocidal maniac
-
I'm reading the Heroes of Olympus: The Son of Neptune. It's a change but that doesn't hold it back.
-
South By South-East - Anthony Horowitz
I love this guy's brand of humour. It's a sort of dark and/or satirical humour.
-
Warriors book 2: Fire and Ice- Erin Hunter
I've gotten right into it.
-
reading Nancy Drew
you know
the one with the crime solving robot
-
FINALLY got Drowned Wednesday. Been looking all over for this book, and I got the Keys of the Kingdom series for Christmas. Haha~! Currently on Chapter 8, and after finishing Duma Key (which I loved) and a fair bit of Insomnia, lighter fictions are definitely like a treat for me at the moment.
-
The Hound Of The D'Urbervilles by Kim Newman
currently on The Red Planet League
and
oh my god
it is the best thing
favourite Sherlock Holmes published fanwork thing ever
Moriarty is completely nuts and I love him
"MORE vampire squid!"
also I love this Moran
he's a much better storyteller than Watson
sorry but it's true
plus
Moriarty breeds wasps fdhjaghtsre
etc
-
Twelve - Jasper Kent
Is it legally possible for me to marry a book?
I don't give a damn, I'll do it anyway.
I love this book and I'm only barely past the prologue. It' dark, dreary, beset with a sense of incoming disaster and hopelessness, and I'm not past page 27. Just how I like it.
-
Still on Insomnia, haha. Got Sir Thursday ready, just finished the prologue.
I've a feeling that I'll finish Sir Thursday before I finish Insomnia, so I've managed to distance myself away from it...
Guh, 200 pages. One reason why I don't like long books ;;
-
the romance of the three kingdoms, by luo guanzhong
old chinese fiction based heavily on fact. it's sick. see also: the dynasty warriors video game franchise
-
For school I have to read My Antonia by Willa Cather... not looking forward to this.
Whenever I find time, I've been reading (since Christmas Day) Modelland by Tyra Banks. It's a really good book<3
-
Just finished The Raw Shark Texts
the writer seems to be ever so slightly sort of idk pretentious about it but
ahaha wow its like House of Leaves easy version it's rather good
all a bit weird to get your head around the concept of but rather inspirational if you do??
theres someone in it called Mycroft Ward thats good enough for me
points an extra long umbrella at a student hes asking a question to all "YOUUU." and wow this is pretty much an inside joke only one other member will understand
no-one else will get it thats what makes it funny
-
the romance of the three kingdoms, by luo guanzhong
old chinese fiction based heavily on fact. it's sick. see also: the dynasty warriors video game franchise
Tried to read it when I was 15. Got bored halfway through the first volume. Must attempt it again, though. I hate to think one of the books on my shelves has never been completed!
At the moment; A Game of Thrones, A Dance with Dragons, 2: After the Feast. Been waiting a year for this to come out in paperback! ^.^
Next: Corvus by Esther Woolfson.
-
The Bible and volume one of collected Judge Dredd comics. An odd mix I know but I haven't been to the library for a while and these are the only books in the house I haven't read already. P:
-
The Call of Cthulhu and other weird stories by H. P. Lovecraft.
I think it's safe to say that I'll be asking for The Necronomicon for my birthday.
-
I keep meaning to read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but I can't engage with the story in any way :-/
Not saying it's a bad book or anything, but I can't remember any of the characters appart from Mr Bingley, who I'm not even sure is in the book, maybe I'm making him up?
Any way, zombie pride and prejudice.
-
I'm reading one of Capote's most popular novels, In Cold Blood. It's just for english class, but it's not bad, I guess.
-
I'm reading Dreamcatcher and Needful Things. Just finished Heros by Robert Cormier for school.
-
Reading Pride and Prejudice in school atm, and to be honest, I don't really like it. One of Jane Austen's sentences could easily be a paragraph in its own right :v So many commas and ands and buts!
Also reading Enchanted Glass which I've only just started today. The beginning's a little confusing for me, but it's probably because I was in a half drowsy state all day today xD
-
At the moment, textbooks and jotters, as my exams start on Thursday. I will definitely start reading again after they've finished, though.
-
Testbooks (Journey Across Time (Wold History, aka Social Studies)), A Midsummer Night's Dream (William Shakepeare), and Homeless Bird (Gloria Whelan).
Journey Across Time - Ancient Rome
A Midsummer Night's Dream - Act Two
Homeless Bird - Chapter Nine or Ten
-
I've been trying to get through Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, but I get to a point with books where I can't be bothered any more. I get halfway through and then stop. @.@
-
A Midsummer Night's Dream - Act Two
Oh, I quite like AMND c:
-
Yea, I love it. We have it in our Journey Across Time textbooks. We also did it last year.
I just finished Linger, and now I'm doing something else about wolves. Book 2 of the Immortals series, I think.
-
Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett.
This Summer I'll be able to buy all his books I haven't got already instead of swapping books with my cousin. :]
-
I avoid Terry Pratchett, as I'm sure I'll get sucked into his whole world and want to read allll of his books. And then I will have no time for life ;_;
I'm reading The Atrocity Files by Charles Stross. It's a very peculiar book; think James Bond/Harry Potter/Geeks. It's a bizarre mix, but it works. The protagonist has just gone through a portal and entered some dystopian sister universe where the Nazis won; the moon has a laser-imprinted image of Hitler burned into its surface. Awesome.
I'm finding it quite heavy going though. I'm getting the magic references, but the computery mathematical stuff is just too much :<
-
The Silent Blade by R.A. Salvatore.
..Not digging the whole 'Wulfgar PTSD' opening though...
-
Back to reading Moby Dick.
It's hard to withstand the whaling exposition chapters, though. But I digress.
-
I'm reading Wuthering Heights at the moment, and it's irritating because I can't get the Kate Bush song out of my head while I do it...
-
I'm reading a translated version of the odyssey(just started) and an untranslated version of the Aeneid (on book II)
-
You're reading the Aeneid in Latin? Good going! "arma virumque cano..." etc. It's a great poem - I had to do Book II for my GCSE Latin :)
The Odyssey is also better than the Iliad, so good choice there - if you like Latin, try learning some Classical Greek and having a crack at some of the Odyssey untranslated!
-
You're reading the Aeneid in Latin? Good going! "arma virumque cano..." etc. It's a great poem - I had to do Book II for my GCSE Latin :)
So did I! "It was the time when first rest begins for weary mortals..." Was pretty hard going, but I knew it all by the end. xD
-
So did I! "It was the time when first rest begins for weary mortals..." Was pretty hard going, but I knew it all by the end. xD
Was such a good story - I got 98% on that module, was well chuffed xD
-
I just finished reading the first six books in the Warriors series. The Original arc, to be exact. I'm going onto The New Prophecy tomorrow, when Amazon Delivers it.
-
Reading The Hypnotist at the moment... Just gotten past the part where Erik hypnotises the kid to talk about the murderer. It's all right so far, hoping that changes for the better when I get further into the book c:
-
Book right now is The Rose Rent by Ellis Peters, only on page 13 but I really want to get around to reading the rest.
-
I'm reading Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison for summer reading in my AP English class. Not bad. A lot of monologue, but it's got a lot of good parts.
-
I'm currently reading Rising Tides by Nora Roberts, the second book in the Chesapeake Bay series. Oh god, Nora Roberts is such an amazing author.
-
The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje (same guy who wrote The English Patient). pretty darn excellent
-
I am currently reading Merchant of Death by Douglas Farah and Stephen Braun. It's a great and interesting book.
-
i'm reading Enduring love by Ian Mcewan. I saw the movie last year (loved it), and the book is just as good (probably equal, since the movie has Daniel Craig). A really unique style of writing too. Recommended.
-
Ghost in the Wires by Kevin Mitnick its meant to be "infamous hacker tells his story" but its literally* the worst book in the entire world im glad its not mine so i can't throw it in the bin cos it would literally* be the first book i'd throw in the bin if i had a chance
i moaned about this on tumblr like a million years ago but i decided to soldier on just to triple check and i dont know why i bothered
*hi milsap
-
Just finished The Hunter's Blades trilogy, and moving into the Transitions trilogy, starting with The Orc King.
...I wanna see Cadderly again so bad :tongue2:
-
Old Peter's Russian Fairy Tales by Arthur Ransome. It really is quite wonderful to finally read this =]
-
Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon
i don't know why everyone says its so hard to read i love it
like i really like Catcher in the Rye style writing i don't know why
-
Not long finished the Black magician trilogy by trudi canavan
Rereading the Sigma Force series by James Rollins waiting on my library getting the newest one Blood line.
-
Reading Monument by Ian Graham atm. It's.. interesting. It's a fantasy novel, with the gimmick being that the "protagonist" is an arse. Ballas is an alcoholic, a thief, a thug, a womaniser, and the only way he knows to repay somebody saving his life is to steal from them.
Surprisingly, I was quite enjoying it. The descriptions are pretty good, some original stuff in there, and while I have no sympathy for Ballas at all and he makes me cringe on a frequent basis (vomit and thoughts of prostitutes every other sentence), it was still interesting and I wanted to know what happened.
But then there was this grim execution scene out of nowhere and it was like.. man I do not want to read this! And now I have very little desire to carry on reading because it made me feel ill (yeahh I'm pretty squeamish) and, while I want to find out the rest of the story, it isn't worth reading the nasty bits for. Shame!
-
"the conquest of happiness", by bertrand russell. somedays you just need an explanation for why you are so emotionally troubled.
IT'S JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS
-
Carnage Family Feud - Wells Crain
The Secret History of the World - Jonathan Black
Both my two new books, the first one is amazing so far!
-
Soul Eater - Michelle Paver
-
Snuff. :]
Also sorting out some new Bill Bryson books. Well they're old books but new to me.
-
just finished "This Book Is Full Of Spiders" by David Wong
i've been in a no-reading slump lately (every so often reading just ends up being a labour of love and its more labour than love most of the times) so its' been good that i've been able to actually read a book recently hhahhaha
i'm hoping it'll remind me about reading?? like the book was ok but it sort of petered out a little at the end and i was hoping it'd explain more stuff instead of doing like books do and thinking that ambiguity is always good when in fact it sort of looks a bit lazy sometimes
but those are my only criticisms of the book? its an alright thriller zombie style book if you want an easy casual read that makes you laugh every so often i really enjoyed it
like you get the feeling that you walked in mid-conversation a lot and i haven't read John Dies At The End yet so i might be missing stuff out but yeah
-
The Hobbit. Yeah never read it, and I feel ashamed that I haven't done so already!
-
Paper Towns by John Green
this book is so amazing oh my god x)
-
the lost hero-rick riordan
-
The Well of Lost Plots - Jasper Fforde.
-
^ I just read the Eyre Affair!
When I'm not distracted by work/video games, I'm reading Storm of Swords part 1 - George R. R. Martin.
-
Number the Stars
Lois Lowry
-
^^ Oh my goodness! - When I bought The Eyre Affair the guy on the till told me it was pretty much his favourite book series. It gets more and more bizarre, I must warn you!
-
I'm guessing I sniped you
-
^^ Oh my goodness! - When I bought The Eyre Affair the guy on the till told me it was pretty much his favourite book series. It gets more and more bizarre, I must warn you!
Haha trust me, I know ;] Did you read his Nursery Crime Series? The Big Over Easy and The Fourth Bear are both /very/ good books.
-
Nah, I'm new to him as an author and I started with The Eyre Affair - I'm taking a break after Something Rotten and I'm going to read the Mortal Instruments series instead then I'm going to go back and read The First Among Sequels etc. etc. etc. :-)
-
Les Miserables- Victor Hugo
And some Harry Potter on the side <3
-
Just finished City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare and now I'm reading Something Rotten by Jasper Fforde :-)
-
nearly finished with "Poppet" by Mo Hayder, ive been trying to drag it out for as long as i can sigh.
shes one of my favourite authors, and ultimately my favourite thriller/horror/crime author.
if youre into that sort of thing i would definitely recommend anything by her... particularly Birdman (first of the jack caffery series), Pig Island or Tokyo.
wait thats p much all of them (if you include the rest of the jc series). so... go read all of them |:
-
presumed innocent by scott turow
not very far yet and refuse to see the movie, so?
there's not much to say besides only a couple chapters in and im already hooked goshh
-
On maybe my 12th re-read of Shade's Children by Garth Nix. Sooooooo well written I love Garth Nix
-
just finished some prefer nettles by junichiro tanizaki. i think i'm gonna read some mishima next, i got a whole stack from the last book fair to get through. my goal is to beat art garfunkel's yearly total of books read.
-
Have no time for personal reading at the moment but half-term next week so I will finish Something Rotten by Jasper Fforde (at long last)
However I do have Literature reading on the go and am currently tackling Twelfth Night and The Great Gatsby.
-
By: Erin Hunter
Warriors: The Power of Three
Sunrise
-
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
I really got into the HBO series so I had to start reading the series and it's wonderful
-
Reading the first book of the Mortal Instrument series. Genuinely don't really have any ships despite the romance in this; the closest I have to one is Magnus x Alec, but that's pretty... mmm. I don't have much interaction to decide whether I do or I don't really care about that ship haha.
-
FireStar's Quest- Erin Hunter
Also apart of the Warriors series.
-
Almost finished Gatsby.
I read Divergent by Veronica Roth a couple of weeks ago so after I finish Gatsby I will start Insurgent (also Veronica Roth.)
-
no nevermind the error analysis book was boring as hell
like when people in the amazon reviews go "this book was really good!" you think "oh yes finally another chemist/physicist who writes lucidly instead of writing a biography on the back of john major's head"
the dude who wrote it even sells himself off as a bit of a wacko so i thought "ok it might be a task to read w/ bad puns and dad jokes like CGP books do but lets try it" nope it was as boring as the rest of them
i know no-one cares but still never do science kids its boring as all hell
-
It's okay, most of what I've been reading lately is just.. Egyptology.
I've been reading a lot of hieroglyphic texts lately, moreso from period I know nothing about, which is difficult, but I'm getting there =]
I've also been reading Willeke Wendrich's book on Egyptian Archaeology. It's got some pretty good articles in it - I actually try to get it into every essay I write, with varying degrees of success.
-
I am currently re-reading Jane Eyre. It's surprisingly quicker reading through it the second time around, probably because I know what's going on. XD
-
Just finished To Kill a Mockingbird which - okay - was a class thing, but it's still a book and I still enjoyed it.
I think maybe I'll read The Last Unicorn next
-
the false prince by jennifer a. nielsen
i s2g theres gotta be 100 people in my school reading this holy hell
-
Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do? by Michael Sandle
A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle
Justice and Gatsby are for school and SoS and Let It Snow are just for fun. I don't have classes all week so I should be able to finish them all.
-
I'm rereading Catching Fire because as much as I loved the film and it blew my mind, I felt like it missed out some huge details, and underplayed a lot of character development.
-
Finished City of Glass, moving on to the first book of the Skullduggery Pleasant series...
-
I just completed The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby after watching the film adaptation and usually I'm completely anti-reading but I felt motivated to read through it. They're both incredible and moving, whilst also being very insightful. Definitely will read it again.
Might watch the documentary of it too (Assigné à Résidence) to get even more indepth into it. It's really weird being into a literary piece like this haha
-
I'm reading the penultimate chapter of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. When I finish this I'm going to start Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
-
I finished Carrie by Stephen King in the summer and since then I haven't really managed to get stuck into a book.
I just like short books with lots of violence  I don't get much free time any more.
-
started V. S. Ramachandran's "Phantoms In The Mind", its all about stuff like trying to demistify phantom limb syndrome and when patients swear blind they can move their hands but they're lying completely quadraspazzed on a lifeglug in a bed
im one of those dumbo readers so it takes me forever to read something and it'll probably be like 100000 years before i finish it but dang its a nice book
im kind of a big idiot nerde for accessible neuroscience stuff in case my diatribes on the subject didn't make that clear
-
Since I last posted here I've read the whole of the Maze Runner series by James Dashner. Now I need to read the prequel 'The Kill Order'
-
fellowship of the ring by j. r. r. tolkien. needed to get around to reading these sometime.
-
finally gotten round to reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth
yes yes yes.
-
Well, I haven't actually been reading anything.
However, I had a little peak at a few pages of City of Bones and I enjoyed it. I might read it soon enough.
I need to finish The Hunger Games first though x.x
-
im book schizophrenic and unfortunetly abandoned the last book i was reading cos i forgot where i'd got to and re-reading was too much work, will probably pick it up again soon
ive started the Illuminatus! trilogy by robert shea and robert wilson instead, dont know what to expect cos ive just started reading it blind and wow the first few bits are confusing but its p good so far???? ive not had a good Reading Abilities few months so its refreshing to be able to read once again
-
I started The Templar Conspiracy by Paul Christopher, last night.
It's quite a nice read, a little slow and I can't remember if this is the book that I gave up on when I got bored.
I'm hoping people die.
-
Shiver by Maggie Steifvater. Been reading it for a while now, & I kinda hope I finish it soon. ;3
-
Lucian's A True Story
Pretty interesting stuff, considering it's a parody of his contemporaries.
-
reading like three things at once >.<
kobo abe "woman in the dunes"
yukio mishima "the sailor who fell from grace with the sea"
and working my way through my chemistry textbook xD
-
Let's see... when I last posted here I was reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth.
Since then I have read 3 books and started a fourth oops haha, they were
Spirit Walker - Michelle Paver
Soul-Eater - Michelle Paver
Outcast - Michelle Paver
and now I'm reading Oath-Breaker, also by Michelle Paver.
-
just started the maze runner by dashner
-
The Complete Sherlock Holmes volume 1 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
I'm not very far in though. :3 But what I've read thus far is good!
-
I have read a few books since my last post here.
(The rest of the series) The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver
Grasshopper Jungle - Andrew Smith
City of Heavenly Fire - Cassandra Clare
The Bloody Chamber - Angela Carter
And I'm currently reading The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.
-
P.J. Tracy - Want To Play?
It's really good so far but it's quite a big book for what I'm used to.
I'll probably blast through half of The Fault in Our Stars tonight and finish it tomorrow. I've got a party to go to on Wednesday and it's going to come up constantly. Gotta make friends!
-
I think I'm going to read 1984 again. I read it in high school and it went over my head but I want a more adult perspective of it.
-
i finished Grim Tuesday by Garth Nix yesterday, wish grim tuesday was in it a little more cos i dont think he got nearly as much characterisation as mister monday did tho
listen to me go on about a kids book like a clowne
-
^ I love those books omg.
I'm reading Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O'Porter and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
-
Jasper Fforde - Lost in a Good Book
Thursday Next is a pretty amazing woman
-
The Fault In Our Stars - John Green
Like, I read it completely expecting it to be a novel equivalent of a chick flick and I was surprised to find that it wasn't a chick flick and that the characters were likeable and had some sort of development.
I understand why it should be sad but I just found the whole thing rather sweet and quite charming.
It's funny that I told myself that I would have read it by last Wednesday.
Also, the film must have been different from the book because my friend said how awesome this certain part was and how satisfying it was and it was, like, two or three short paragraphs.
-
Frankenstein - Mary Shelly
I wouldn't normally read this.... but I have to for summer homework.
-
Not exactly reading anything right now, but I'm planning on picking up City of Bones and possibly the first Hunger Games. I need to finish the latter book actually...
And my brother has the Song of Ice and Fire books too, so they're up for consideration.
Near to the end of CoB now and holy crap I'm being screwed over big time Oo
-
Since I last posted here I've read a ton. I'll list em all in case anyone actually cares.
- A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
- 11 Doctors, 11 Stories (the 50th Anniversary Doctor Who book, Various Authors)
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
- The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
I'm also currently reading The 100 by Kass Morgan, I'm only on chapter 5 as of yet but I love it so far.
-
Currently reading Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare before I start on City of Lost Souls. Also planning to read Lady Friday sometime, probably after CoLS.
-
I just finished Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel which was really enjoyable! I was looking for some good historical fiction for ages, and I can honestly say that's the best of its genre for me. The writing style completely swept me up and blew me away and I need to get my hands on the sequel as soon as possible like wow :0
-
Been plowing through the Divergent series, on Allegiant at the moment. I really enjoyed Divergent, Insurgent was good but not fantastic and Allegiant is so far...not that good but not bad.
Then after this it's Looking For Alaska by John Green and then back to TMI.
-
"Quality Management in the Imaging Sciences"
Such fun!
-
Reading the Dragonlance: The New Adventures series again. It's really obscure, but if you're heavily into stereotypical fantasy (read my lips, wizards, elves, minotaurs, kingdoms, dragons and the like), it's pretty good.

City of Fallen Angels - Cassandra Clare
Loving it. Definitely better than the Divergent series, I'd say. And as it is mandatory for English Lit I'm reading The Handmaid's Tale. I kid you not, it is hard to trawl through. I'm fine that it is a feminist novel but oh man it's not any good.

Star Maker by william olaf stapledon
nothing like 1930s science fiction ey
the concept is an interesting one- i mean it's basically an excuse for Elaborate Worldbuilding in terms of alien planets and lifeforms and cultures and i am such a sucker for that kind of thing.
there's also a LOT of philosophical/spiritual/hypothetical discussion though, the kind that can go on for pages and pages.
like five pages describing a group of bodyless explorers' consciousnesses all merged together and going over the subtleties of "we" compared to "i" in terms of describing oneself as part of a melting pot of different beings' experiences and knowledges and using that collective to attain higher planes of mental acuty but still being aware of one's own self...
stuff like that, and at times i'm sitting reading it with a load of question marks floating through the back of my mind all with the magic roundabout music playing in the distance.
i'm at a bit like that now where he's talking about intelligent life on planets enduring the struggle of ending violence and power grabs in exchange for altruism and self-love, to avoid destruction and achieve a utopia (but also risking a mental addiction to curiosity and telepathic spiritual travel of the universe which leaves their bodies to stagnate and die??? or something???) and um well this is a good bit to read at night tbh, it helps me to drift off.
though reading makes me tired anyway, blame years and years of habitually reading in bed before i sleep and having the pavlovian response to it, SIGHS.

Not usually much of a book... read... guy myself, but I was lent the first book in the Vampire Hunter D series a while ago and have finally taken the plunge. That said, lots of exposition in the prose and sudden rants coming from the characters themselves, which comes across as jarring and/or unintentionally hilarious, depending on what's said when.
If the rest of the books are like this, I might just stop after reading this one. In the middle of Chapter 4 at the moment, so I hope it at least picks up the pace, if it can't meet or exceed my expectations.

Waiting for book 13 of how to train your dragon to come out.

Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen
It's really easy to read :-)
-
The Bees by Laline Paull.
It's really satisfying to read because it's so ridiculous so I've only read the first chapter.
It's like tripping on honey. It's like 40K with bees. It's like walking in on your parents and realising they're bees.

I have a book on Maps that I'm flicking through in my spare time. Learning about a couple at a time :D
-
the odyssey by homer. it's for school but im enjoying it is hEy!
-
The Odyssey is pretty good, but I prefer The Iliad! Except book 2, because the catalogue of ships is almost pointless, and likely a later addition to the poem
-
im supposed to be reading hunger games... the first book... but i just cant bring myself to start.
back to fanfiction.

I find it so hard to read while I have something I'm writing on the go. I love words but sometimes there are too many words ygm? Anyway, it's testimony to the fact that I'm not doing my creative piece coursework that I'm on my third book since Christmas lol.
I'm currently reading Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh which is... Interesting. I'm so glad it's a humorous book because if I wasn't reading about Renton falling into a pool of urine while simultaneously his trousers are getting covered in crap in the men's toilets of a betting shop I don't think I'd be able to cope with having to read everything written in Scottish eye-dialect.
I've also read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sàenz (which is a really good contemporary YA feat non-straight protags, ethnic cast & is still painfully realistic and well-written rather than - as some books featuring a representational cast do - just leaving it to the cast/representation to carry the entire novel.
I read Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell too, it's for like 9 year olds but it's better written than most of the stuff you find in the general section. The characters are also the absolute best and everything about it is really vivid and exciting.
Anyway that's me.

Rather overdue update from my last post:
1. Love the Keys to the Kingdom Series.
2. Finished both The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments series. Also read The Bane Chronicles.
3. Read some maths and physics books for wider reading
Now I'm reading this book about the world's 'baddest gangsters' (the title makes me cringe but the introduction to these people makes it okay) and honestly, can't read more than one person/group a day. It's a lot to take in for me ): After that, will probably go back to my cryptography books.
-
Oh yo I'm reading The Ecliptic by Benjamin Wood and it's really cool
-
How to train your dragon: how to fight a dragon's fury.
-
Dracula by Bram Stoker.
I had to read it last fall for my critical theory class, and I'm just rereading it now for pleasure before I put it away.
-
The Fantastic Five by Enid Blyton
-
Nineteen eighty-four by George Orwell
-
Just finished The Drive by Typer Keevil,
About to start Peace, Love & Petrol Bombs by D. D. Johnston
-
im supposed to be reading hunger games... the first book... but i just cant bring myself to start.
Oh dear lord, that's my favorite book series (with Warriors being a decently places second). It's honestly really good, though it's a bit slow up until the reaping. Catching Fire and Mockingjay are a tad confusing if you don't pay attention, but are very good as well.
Nineteen eighty-four by George Orwell
I was one of the only people in my grade that read the book and liked it. People thought the plot was stupid and stuff like that, but I honestly think it's a good read.
As for me, i'm reading A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving because it's my summer homework (only 1/3 of the way through and it's due on the 22nd. I hate procrastination). Not bad, though I vastly prefer 1984 so far.

Currently reading: Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus by John Gray
My friend said she was reading through it and that it was really interesting so I picked it up today.
-
Got a cheeky amazon delivery of some story anthologies today so am about to start working through What We Talk About When We Talk About Love by Raymond Carver and Friend Of My Youth by Alice Munro
-
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski is what I'm reading at the moment! It has been on the list for about two years so I figured that it's about time to start. It's actually really good. The way that it seems to be slowly slipping into some sort of madness is really interesting.
Then there's The Exorcist (William peter Blatty) and Doctor Sleep (Stephen King). Looking forward.
Praise the sun.
