We all remember the days back when we first fired up our pokémon red/blue/yellow.
We felt fine and dandy, just taken down Brock, bought a few potions, pokéballs.
Then, we battled a few trainers, and found our pokémon needed a much deserved rest.
There was a pokémon center quite conveniently next to Mt. Moon, where you were about to enter until you heard about the ZUBATs.
You rest up at the pokemon center and you spot a shifty looking fellow in the corner. Being the nosey kid you were, you talked to the guy. He offereg to sell you a "MAGIKARP" for £500. Of course, being the young, naive trainer you were, and , not knowing just exactly what a MAGIKARP was, you accepted. The guy then tells you that you, 'knew what you were getting'.
Thinking nothing of it, you decide it is time to proceed to Mt. Moon. You step one foot inside and a GEODUDE appeared. You sent out you starter pokémon first, then, you decided to give this new pokémon a try. out comes, what looks like a run-of-the-mill fish. You think, 'okay, here it goes' and tell it to attack with SPLASH, thinking it would splash a geodude with water and damage it, however, nothing happened.
From that point forward, you wondered why you paid £500 for such a weak pokémon, until later that was.

Ah, the Platinum Resort Area. I'd just pass the time, seeing if I could catch a lv. 100 Magikarp. I checked a guide, and was thoroughly disappointed.
-
Magikarp is among the most awesome of Pokemon. I have loved it ever since I bought one in Pokemon Yellow. If anyone actually deserves an awesomeness thread it is certainly this guy.
I also bought one in my White save. Brilliant piece of business on my side.
-
My favourite Magikarp is either:
1) A Platinum one
2) A HG/SS one
3) A DW one
...because of Bounce.
-
Yes, Magikarp does quite suck, but once it evolves into Gyarados is becomes very powerful. Who would have known?
-
Yes, Magikarp does quite suck
Get out. This is a Magikarp awesomeness thread, so talk about how awesome it is.
Also it can actually cause a lot of damage once it learns flail, but by then it should be a Gyarados so there isn't too much point in having it. If it is used correctly is doesn't suck, but Gyarados is a better Pokemon anyway.
-
Oh Magikarp. Many people don't even notice it exists or just call it lame. They knew nothing.

You apparently did not understand me... yes Magikarp sucks because of only learning tackle at lv. 16, but my point is, is that even though all it has is splash doesn't mean it isn't awesome! After all, it does evolve into a wickedly powerful pokemon!

magikarp can pwn gyarados any day

It's true. Gyarados holds nothing against Magikarp. Magikarp is the Prince of the pond. The Lord of the lake. No denying it, if you haven't used this thing, you're obviously oblivious to it's epic awesomeness. Does that face look like it's playing with you? No! It's gonna rip you apart and eat you for breakfast, and perhaps even lunch if it can make you last long enough!
Magikarp. Get one. Or else!
-
I'm still not saying Magikarp sucks!! It is awesome!! :yeswink:

Yeah, I'd like to see it try. Speaking of magikarp, who else wants to train a magikarp to level 100?

Magikarp is pretty amazing.
First of all, in the anime, it's pretty evident in the SS Anne episode that Magikarp is ridiculously tough. It can withstand any Bite attack. It can also evolve when provoked, which is shown in G/S/C and the show. We don't even know what level it was at, but seeing as the Magikarp dealer in RBYG gave you a lower-leveled one, it must have the power to gain lots of levels upon reaching the emotional breaking point, causing in quick evolutions. This can be caused by Dragon Rage from Gyarados, radio waves, and being kicked.
Next, it has the amazing power of flail bouncing. It can probably leap over a one-story building with its combination of feral struggles and pure muscle strength. One powerful twitch of the body can send it flying. This is how the Magikarp made it to places like Sinnoh, Hoenn, and Unova. Their intelligent brains figured that it would be easier to avoid underwater predators by simply hitchhiking. They can also survive forever on land, seeing this in the drained Lake Valor in Sinnoh.
Disturbingly, the mental powers of Magikarp are enormous. This is why Gyarados becomes so angry - they cannot exert this force until they are fully evolved - Gyarados can also shoot laser beams, meaning that they store a huge amount of potential energy. They are incredibly massive, which is why they are so hard to KO.
A final note is the Speed of this amazing creature. Using the pure muscle force from earlier, they can go extremely fast by waving their tailfins back and forth and pressing the whiskers against the body to achieve the maximum speed possible. They can avoid predators who chase them with futile desires. They swim near the surface, so it is necessary anyway.
Basically, Magikarp is pretty amazing.

So many trolls here. D:
The only way magikarp is powerful is by the Smeargle and Ninjask cheat. =/
This pokemon sucks. Feebas is better~

Have you ever heard of magikarps evolution gyarados? Have you ever seen gyarados's amazing speed and attack? Magikarp will own feebas evan before it evolves into gyarados its so awesome!!! SPLASH! Your feebas is dead
-
magikarp is not magic but gyarados does have the looks to be badass.
-

There is nothing to think about. o.o
Its a fish with nothing but splashs when its scared and when it gets angry it tackles. Flails when its in danger, bounces when its happy. =/
Feebas on the other hand is able to do many things.

Its really sad.
Yay Magikarp is awesome cause of its evolution... really?
What about "Magikarp" itself. No evolution, no Dragon Dance, none of that crap. Is it really awesome?
All I read from you guys was yay its cool cause it evolves into this big mouthed monster with awesome attack and speed. ¬_____¬

The Smeargle + Ninjask "cheat" is one of the great features of Magikarp. Deal with it.

Pfft, a one story building? Legend has it that Magikarp can leap over mountains given a long enough lifespan. Magikarp ftw.

actually feebas learns the exact same moves as magikarp except magikarp is better, and yes, it is awesome so get out of here you feebas lover and go make a thread about feebas if you like him so much, this is a magikarp thread so get lost
-

OMG NO WAI !!
Because last time I checked Feebas had Ice Beam when being born. o.o
Anyways I'm out cause I don't like these kind of conversation, I just wanted to post my opinion even if the OP didn't want some kind of post like this. <3
Also the OP should change the title since all the post are about Magikarp's evolution and not Magikarp. o.o
Bye bye~

I have to agree with Alpochio here. Magikarp is pretty bad and Feebas is very slightly better. Let's compare:
-Stats: Magikarp and Feebas's base stats are very similar: Magikarp's are 20/10/55/15/20/80, and Feebas has the same, apart from attack and special attack are swapped and defence and special defence are swapped. Magikarp has no moves to abuse its higher special attack from, and electric and grass moves are usually special, so Feebas's higher special defence is slightly more useful, although, neither can really take a hit.
-Abilities: Both get Swift Swim, but in the DW Magikarp gets Rattled, and Feebas gets Adaptability. Rattled only activates after Magikarp takes a hit and bug, ghost and dark moves aren't too common. It could abuse this by switching into a bug, ghost and dark move, using a focus sash to survive and attacking with flail, but that requires no entry hazards and flail doesn't hit ghosts, which are the main users of ghost moves. With base 10 attack, it's not going to be doing much damage anyway. Adaptability gives Feebas double power water moves. Again, it's not going to be doing much with such low attack and special attack, but it's useful in more situations.
-Movepool: Magikarp only gets Splash, Tackle, Flail and Bounce. On the other hand, Feebas gets Splash, Tackle, Flail, a bunch of egg moves, a few tutor moves and a few TMs. Although feebas's movepool would be considered small compared to a lot of pokémon, it's much larger than Magikarp's.
Magikarp looks cooler though, so I guess it gets that.

Wow, just wow. I dont think I can argue with you after you put so much work into that but im still sticking with magikarp as my favorite sucky fish however I do like the evolution of feebas, milotic however I like gyarados more then milotic
-
Magikarp is WAAAY better than its Water-type, fishy, 'only able to learn Splash, Tackle and Flail' cousin Feebas, because not only is Magikarp available in like 11 more games than Feebas (unless I'm forgetting that there's a way to get one in B/W or FR/LG), so it's more well known and used, but it's the more famous fish.
-
I trained my Magikarp to lvl.100. No evolving. And It beat my Toto. A lvl. 100 Feraligator. So GO MAGIKAKARP!
-

Feebas is found in B/W with a super rod on route 1 in special patches
-
^Well, Magikarp is found in 9 more games than Feeb(le)as.
-
you cannot describe how awsome magickarp is. If was the very first pokemon i ever caught. in case your wondering i caught it in pokemon diamond. :D
-
^2 of your sentences don't start with capitals, Magikarp>Magickarp, It>If, I>i, Pokemon>pokemon.
I saw a whole bunch of videos where a lone Magikarp swept through LG. Pretty cool, huh?
...though the person need AR to get the Old Rod that early...
-
Magikarp is cute! That's cause he's a fishy!
-
The mighty old Magikarp! A Pokémon legend haha
-
Actually, magikarp can be useful,if used right.
Turn 1: send out smeargle, use spore
Turn 2: Use belly drum
Turn 3: Use rain dance
Turn 4: Baton pass to Karp, opponent should wake up and send Karp to 1 HP (with focus sash)
Turn 5+: use flail
Edit: I should point out: don't use magikarp anyway, unless you want to troll people or have a dare to beat someon with a magikarp or something; Blaziken can do this strategy better thanks to Speed Boost
-
That set seems a little fishy to me. :tongue2:
