PKMN.NET / Re: So the forums have had less activity
« on: August 24, 2012, 17:42 »
Threads like "what are you doing now?" always elicit responses but they never generate any kind of meaningful discussion. There are loads of other ways of letting people know that kind of information, as well. I say we should have monthly debates, or at least someone should just bring it upon themselves on an unofficial basis to make a monthly thread about something moderately controversial. Other than that, though, I guess PKMN.NET has reached a point of decadence.

Literature / Re: When is the best time to read?
« on: August 24, 2012, 17:38 »
From personal experience, the best time to read is in the bath. The swish of the water drowns out noise, you can close the door, and there's something inherently relaxing about it which gets you really stuck into a book. The only disadvantages are that your fingers get clammy and you get books wet so if they're library books/borrowed books/books you intend to at any point give to someone else it's not the best of ideas. I am an avid fan of this method, though.

How I seem to be losing weight while stuffing my face with Rockys. Not complaining though.
I experience a similar phenomenon. I eat loads and never gain any weight.

Debate / Re: #YOLO
« on: August 23, 2012, 16:23 »
Getting annoyed by the phrase is worse than the phrase itself and it can be damn entertaining which is why I say it. In thins modern generation where hashtags are dominant over entertainment (thanks to the rise and impact of social media) a lot of things trend which seem immature but to get annoyed over it is actually ridiculous.

So I'm gonna keep on posting #yolo because #yolo is the motto~
You should be the psychological case study of intelligent conformity

If it is one of the best examples of the modern generation where social media has become so powerful, then I really do worry about our generation. Not.. not because it's a silly little thing, but it's about actually thinking about what it means, and living by it.

You know.. if somebody tells me "you only live once", "carpe diem", that doesn't particularly mean anything to me unless you actually live by that mentality every single day, which, good god, you should be doing to an extent anyway. In a way, it's comparable to those who get song lyrics tattoo'd on their bodies because it seems like 'the cool thing to do', mark their body with something that makes them look deep and thoughtful when they're just a slave for the trend as the next person and it's just a recycled meaning, nothing unique or really genuine about it.

I don't think it's the phrase that people get annoyed by, it's the lack of sincerity behind it, the inappropriateness of it's use at times too. Like.. I'm beginning to do more and more things out of the ordinary (or at least I aspire to) because I want to have a life I can look back on and say "I had fun", not.. "lolz, got a girl preggers, #yolo", which is more stupidity and cast-calling for the Jeremy Kyle show.. it just seems to be thrown around ridiculous amounts without any substance.. which I'm beginning to find more and more frequent in a lot of youth.

Maybe it's.. maybe it's just me. Hm.

Or that we're just seeing a well marketting prequel to the James Bond film "You Only Live Twice"..
I feel like as a generation we're trapped in a vortex of social media and we've lost track of what's really important too, but what can you do. There's still obvious traces of humanity in all of us.

it jsut seems relaly pretentious lol and i thgouth I Was a hipstyer u)_u
can I just do one thing in my life, return to PKMN.NET for one second in a year or however long it's been, without being called a 'hipster' by you because I made one joke post about it once? I have never met anyone on the earth who actually takes those labels seriously and if you think I'm motivated to post threads by some inane desire to present myself as a hipster then you are clearly trapped in some vacuous teenage delusion.

Alas, no. Maybe I can titillate PKMN.NET in the right way that she might make me a sensual offering.

I guess I could give myself a title but it would be meaningless to everybody except me.

PKMN.NET / I have never had one trading card.
« on: December 23, 2011, 22:55 »
It's a Summer day, and the matutinal sun not only illuminates my humble veranda, but allows me the contemplative refuge of a nearby bower. Submitting willingly to a seasonal ecstacy, I fulfill my unchanged, monotonous routine in an excited way, the perfunctory pamperings of previous seasons seeming an altogether new, vivid experience.

I am not one to take pleasure in college, but gadded gleefully on the tiresome road to the wretched institution I am mandated to attend. Suddenly, Catullus' poetry has whole new meanings, his forlorn love and anachronistically unpoetic structure thrilling to my literary instincts and pleasing to my soul. Byron's, '"I would I were a careless child / Still dwelling in my highland cave" replicate the liberty and positive emotion associated with a period mainly constituting gloom.

The day ending as it began, unpredictable and vivacious, I return to the seraglio of secrets and surprises that is my abode. In possession of a personal computing device, I log on to my favourite Poker websites, finding a new predilection in the world of strategy. I check Wikisource to pay further testament to my literary heroes, something I would never do, not on any regular day. I empathise with Victor Hugo's soul-crushing loss more than ever.

As an exceptional chain of events has been put into gear, the upmost volubility of my mood having been perceived in the commonly shattering milieu I inhabit, I check a lost sister, a former love interest I jilted but hoped to one day return to. Her plosive prenom was the fair PKMN.NET. Her and I would hold hands in conquered woods; she and I would sit for hours in soft, soothing discussion of the transatlantic distance we had travelled towards the mind and spirit of each other, and how we would only regretfully go back.

I remembered, however, I had not been bequeathed one trading card. I had spent hours in tactile correspondence with this fair maiden: I had visited her vast sea of resources. I had acquainted myself with her most precious jewels and shown her that I was ready to take her into my arms once and for all.

The day was ruined. I went home, shattered, my ululations being mistaken for the profound, cryptic murmurings of a widow.

Granted, but you get some of it on your new suit and you're on the way to a job interview, and as a result don't get the job that you wanted.

I wish for redemption, serenity, world peace, and world harmony.

"I'm closer to the Golden Dawn
Immersed in Crowley's uniform
Of imagery
I'm living in a silent film
Portraying Himmler's sacred realm
Of dream reality
I'm frightened by the total goal
Drawing to the ragged hole
And I ain't got the power anymore
No I ain't got the power anymore

I'm the twisted name on Garbo's eyes
Living proof of Churchill's lies
I'm destiny
I'm torn between the light and dark
Where others see their targets
Divine symmetry
Should I kiss the viper's fang
Or herald loud the death of Man
I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore

Don't believe in yourself
Don't deceive with belief
Knowledge comes with death's release

I'm not a prophet or a stone age man
Just a mortal with the potential of a superman
I'm living on
I'm tethered to the logic of Homo Sapien
Can't take my eyes from the great salvation
Of bulls**t faith
If I don't explain what you ought to know
You can tell me all about it on the next Bardo
I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore

Don't believe in yourself
Don't deceive with belief
Knowledge comes with death's release."
Quicksand, David Bowie.
