Just wondering if anyone sometimes leaves there starter behind from near the start and raises other Pokemon. I feel most trainers love their starter, but I remember one time I left a Charmander behind and raised a lovely Zubat into a Crobat.
And after I left that Charmander behind Ash found it...

I ditched Tepig in Black2 and sent over Torchic. Same with Cyndaquil in SS. And then I've done so in every Nuzlocke I've ever done, using an Egg Pokemon as a starter. And in Yellow Version, I tend to ditch Pikachu once I can get Electabuzz.
-
I ditched Oshawott and Serperior in White and Black 2 respectively... for like a Galvantula and an Octillery or Magnezone or something.
-
I actually TRADED my Oshawott in White 2 to someone else pretty early on for... dang, I can't remember which Pokemon I got out of it, but that's not important. My "starter" in White 2 was effectively Psyduck. That's the only time I've ever not used my starter-starter in a game for my final team, though.
-
I used to be really against this for some reason, if the starters were bad I would be really bummed out because I'd have to play through the whole game with a Pokemon I don't really like. It wasn't until B/W that I decided to leave the starter behind and fill my team with normal Pokemon.
I'm not even sure if I'll go back to starters again, there are so many Pokemon I want to raise and train that the starter just feels unnecessary.

I actually ditched my starter in Gen 4. I really wasn't okay with a fire/fighting yet again so I decided to raise a flying type instead. after thinking about it, I could have gone with a piplup and been fine.

I've been playing through Soul Silver again recently, and I ditched my Cyndaquil and instead sent over a Houndour from Platinum. Asides from a difficult first gym battle when it refused to listen to me, everything's gone pretty smoothly.

I always stick with my starter, then after beating the game I store it in the PC
-
i ditched Tepig in black 2 for a riolu and a growlithe
-
It sounds really silly, but I never ditch the starters because it feels like you're supposed to use them e.g. in Black Prof. Juniper gives you the starter as a present (sort of) and it just feels rude to ditch them
-
thts true i suppose. You know what im not going to ditch anymore of my starters
-
i ditched my 4th gen starters because they sucked
usually i keep em around tho

But Turtwig is literally a solidified version of perfection that isn't a pizza....
- slightly exaggerating
I see why people keep it, I do most of the times, because I like them. We have an emotional attachment to it, kinda... without sounding weird.
-
I never ditch 'em except in Gen V, cos the only good starter is tepig and he evolves into Emboar who I hate.
And turtwig is awesome, but grotle is better :tongue2:
-
i've done this a few times, and it didn't end well
i would be terrible and just quit haha

I know how you guys feel. The games kind of build up the emotional bonds shared between you and your pokemon, so it makes sense to feel an emotional attachment to the first one in the game. That's why I usually keep my starters, only getting rid of them in second play-throughs.

*sniffs* i never thought of it that way...

I always ditch my starters. I want to be proud of raising Pokemon that I got myself, on my own. The starters don't feel like mine when they're given to me-- and that's just because. I feel it belongs to the Professor, not to me. That's why my Pokemon are always caught and trained by me once I find them myself. Then they truly feel mine. I have no pride for starters. :nowink:
No pride at all.
-
I don't usually like the starters tbh, therefore I usually ditch them fairly early on because I find other, less common, Pokemon more fun to raise :3. I think in Black I ditched my starter for a Maractus and that was an awesome decision!

I ditched my Croconaw in SoulSilver recently, giving me a team of Victreebel/Scyther/Ambipom/Corsola/Misdreavus/Mamoswine. I feel like Feraligatr would be more useful than Corsola, but she's so damn adorable. ;___;
Apart from that, I usually have no reason to ditch my starter. I usually like them too much/have no other option in mind.
