Forum Games / beautiful baby names
« on: October 13, 2017, 16:50 »
i thought it would be fun to come up with ridiculous 'baby names' through subversion etc of usual baby names

my first example is naming your child ted.  when people ask if it's short for edward, it's not.  it's not short for theodore, either - stop assuming.  it's short for technology engineering and design.

thank you for coming to my ted talk.

TV and Movies / Re: Things you noticed in Doctor Who

i've only watched the episode with the big wasp and donna but i've noticed that the tardis works which is preposterous because it should have unsavoury leaflets stuck to the walls and every time the doctor tries to travel it should go "sorry, this substation is not in order.  please find another substation" because of years of london not maintaining it and years of vandalism

my old school didn't tell me that they wanted ucas forms for early applicants in by the end of the week (the actual deadline is 15th october) until yesterday so now i'm stuck in a limbo of figuring out whether to write a follow up email to my mentor (i emailed him my 2nd draft on friday, which he didn't reply to, and then a third draft yesterday after i'd received the email) or not.  since the 7th september, i've had a 2 in 7 success rate regarding whether he actually responds.  this is just really frustrating because i've spent hours reading and researching and writing and trying to work things out and if i don't get an email response today i won't have time to work out any kinks.

to clarify exactly why this is so frustrating i turned down a place at edinburgh after getting three a* grades at a level so that i could apply for cambridge and for the school to say they'll support me and then not give vital information until seven days before the deadline or respond to my emails really feels like mickey-taking.

^where do you stand on apples themselves.  are we allowed to eat those without cinnamon

i've fallen a bit in love with cambridge but i'm already an oxford reject and i don't know what being rejected from both would do to my self esteem

you're being told a load of rubbish.  buried alive is an online creepypasta based on an unused sprite that doesn't exist that was supposedly embedded into game data and then not used.  it wasn't - it doesn't exist, it's just a horror story.

you aren't doing anything wrong

just been asked for details of references from a tutoring company.  contacted both referees to ask permission but haven't received replies which is sticky because one of the families wants to potentially meet with me tonight.  have sent the email off to the employer as i thought it was a priority so hopefully neither of the referees will freak.

i applied for a job as a tutor, which was all well and good.

they replied within half an hour asking for a phone interview.

they addressed the email to rebecca.  i am not rebecca.  i do not know who she is.

i honestly think i am going to scream

i emailed our head of sixth form saying i was going to take a year out and reapply to university and he gives the whole 'of course we'll support you etc, etc' and asks who i see being my mentor.  i email back and tell him.

the support is apparently not receiving an email back over at least a 4 or 5 day period of time and then having my school email shut down, still without a response, because i'm no longer a student

real helpful and nice considering i already had a personal statement drafted at this time last year. i want to cry.  i'm going to end up not going to university and never ever doing what i want to do and getting a phd and becoming a professor because i'm not pushy enough and i know i should email him  from my personal account but i'm Mad and i'm Anxious and i really wish he'd actually like??? emailed??????

my brother's partner got caught in a pretty rough accident and she and her friends were thrown from a rickshaw in columbia.  both drivers died, one of her friends broke some ribs and had to have a lung reinflated.  hana (ed's partner) has broken her right femur and left foot and is being airlifted to bortega for surgery later on today.   i honestly can't imagine being in a country where you don't speak the language and being caught in an accident like that.

her parents are flying out to look after her soon so my brother, my mum and i are going to keep an eye on her 15-year-old sister to make sure she's coping.
