Gaming / Smash 4 Replays
« on: January 02, 2016, 22:15 »
A thread for those of you who smash to share replays of matches -- Online or Offline -- and to just laugh / cry / boast / ponder the meaning of life about your videos.

Guess I can begin with a recent replay of mine from a For Glory match:

Shulk vs Villager, ft. Down Air

I land a spike for my first KO, and go on to win the match.

Fake Whatever / Make Your Own Mega!
« on: February 13, 2015, 17:47 »
Because we all like to imagine what some mega evolutions would look like and the stats / abilities they would have...this thread is here.

To start:

Mega Crawdaunt
- Two claws would be slightly bigger, and would have a star on each claw.
- There would be 2 extra chevron shapes on its chest.
- There would be 2 smaller black markings similar to eyes underneath its eyes.

Stats: 63 HP / 160 Attack / 100 Defense / 100 S.Atk / 70 S.Def / 75 Speed

Go nuts?

So, we've been treated to an absolute feast in terms of the legendaries available in these games. In the Mirage Spots, we have the likes of Lugia and Ho-oh, Dialga and Palkia as well as Tornadus and Thundurus. There are plenty more too!

So, what do you all make of the Mirage Spots and the legendaries available? Do you think there could have been room for a few more that were left out? And, if you are bothered by it, are you excited that most of the legendaries (including Reshiram and Zekrom!) can be shiny?

Personally I am thrilled by the latter, but I do think there was room for a few special legendaries - possibly Shaymin and Darkrai, as a couple of ones I would like to be able to get.

In another way, I very much like the animations of the legendary intros, where the portal opens up and they drop out of it. It looks incredible, I'll be honest.

Team Building / Mawilite is being Suspected.
« on: August 06, 2014, 20:34 »
Granted, it isn't banned yet but whaaaaaa?

Okay this is getting a bit ridiculous. Aegislash just went through the roof, and BAM! Mega Mawile is being suspected.

Personally, I see absolutely no problem with Mega Mawile. It virtually cannot touch Heatran outside of Sucker Punch and the not-so-common-in-my-experience Focus Punch (and Sucker Punch is a free burn really). It's not impossible to stop even after Mega Evolution, and before it...those defensive stats are pathetic.

Though I haven't played OU in a bit but...seriously smogon? This mega, ahead of Mega-Pinsir?

Music / Music Swaps!
« on: July 09, 2014, 16:41 »
As far as I understand, all you do is swap certain songs with another person. You can swap any song you like with anyone else, and same goes for them too :)

So it'd be something like:

Song 1 <-> Song 2
Song 3 <-> Song 4

(<-> = swap).

This is (apparently) a good way to listen to songs and music that you wouldn't normally listen to. Of course, being total opposites in music interest probably makes for strange / intriguing swaps.

Go nuts.

(if anyone wants to correct this do tell me what needs fixing)

Music / Favourite Parts of Songs
« on: November 16, 2013, 15:08 »
Basically, are there any parts of any song that you absolutely love hearing? A lovely guitar solo? A nice bit of singing?

For me, there's several songs with some parts in that are just...brilliant.

Muse - Knights of Cydonia
When the solo kicks in...dubstep eat your heart out, it is just brilliant.

Metallica - All Nightmare Long
The entire solo plus the bits in between are amazing.

DragonForce - Last Journey Home
About 4:20 into the full version, it changes tone and it sounds amazing. Then at 5:08...just brilliant.

Literature / Anyone participating in NaNoWriMo?
« on: October 22, 2013, 17:17 »
(it's in this sub-forum because it makes sense :P)

For those who do not know what NaNoWriMo is:

NaNoWriMo is a shortened version of National Novel Writing Month. Every November, novel writers/authors/whathaveyou aim to write 50,000 words in 30 days in any genre.

That's the general gist of it anyways.

So, has anyone started planning or is anyone doing it?

A lot of people have been raving about things like Friend Safari, Horde Encounters, Pokemon Amie, PSS and even the Exp Share mechanic changes, along with other little mechanics.

But what has impressed you in X and Y?

For me, it has to be the Exp share and the Mega Evos. The change to the Exp Share is a game-changer, as once you get, keeping it turned on is a guarantee that you'll never be underlevelled at any point.

Mega Evos wise...Lucario pretty much soloed two gyms despite being underlevelled, thanks to Power-Up Punch + Mega Evolution in the same turn. Mega Charizard X makes me feel like I'm 10, because it's so badass and powerful.

Random Randomness / Superstitions
« on: September 13, 2013, 22:50 »
Because it's Friday the 13th, I think it'd be appropriate for this.

Do you have any superstitions? Routine or just things you do anyways?

...I don't have any, so i can't start the topic xD

Random Randomness / Do you want to get married?
« on: September 13, 2013, 22:31 »
Because no-one has brought this up yet...probably because it may be a downer of a thread

Do you want to get married? Do you love the idea of wedding? Do you loathe the idea and want to hide away from such a thing?

Personally...

No. I wouldn't just "get married". I'd want to find that perfect person first, but I am not interested until I'm actually financially able to support myself, and then some. It's possibly going to change if I met that person beforehand, so...it's up in the air.

Older Main Games / Another Nuzlocke?!? *sigh*
« on: September 08, 2013, 22:17 »
Hey, it's Spriter. I'll be hopefully kicking butt in a Platinum Nuzlocke. I shall provide updates when possible, but in a more playthrough sort of style instead of a story.

You all know the rules. Ok, fine, rules:
- When one pokemon faints, it shall be boxed forever
- I can only catch the first encountered pokemon on any given route. Gift pokemon count for cities and such.
- Shinies are exempt from all rules, so I can catch it if I've caught something already. It will be boxed should it faint though, of course.

Now:

- Started with a character called Quiet (does anyone get the reference?).
- Barry was an idiot and forgot stuff and fined me for no reason.
- Obtained a lovely Turtwig who I forgot to nickname...
- Docile natured, but I shall call him Stem!
- Beat Barry. He's a bit naive and easy to beat I guess.
- Now, the adventure begins! Well, when he stops following me like a puppy. Oh, wierd guy in Lake Verity...but I know who he is, he's Cyrus because I can see the future!

Stem
Lv6 - Docile

Team Building / RU ready for LU? (LU RMT)
« on: August 29, 2013, 22:52 »
I would like to present to you all a team I threw together for the Pokemon Online equivalent to Smogon's RU tier, LU. I studied which sets, which pokemon and what teams were used in the LU metagame before I delved into making my team.

The Overview:

The Team:

@
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Leaf Storm
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Rotom-C is my scarfer. Why? It offers great coverage between just two moves, decimating Kabutops, Lanturn, Moltres, Omastar, Krookodile and Scyther. Volt Switch is a great momentum builder, as it allows me to constantly switch between Scyther and Rotom-C to wear down the oppsoing team, which opens up Entei to sweep with Extremespeed. Leaf Storm is ridiculously powerful, and is a decent "QUICK, DESTROY IT!" move. Thunderbolt offers good power when I am sure Thunderbolt can finish the opponent off in a few turns. Trick gives problems to Lanturn, Sandslash and generally any other spinner or wall, stopping them from doing their job well. EV Spread is standard, max speed for speed and max S.Attack for power.

@
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Nature: Calm
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam

Claydol is vital, as it offers the best indirect support for Scyther: removing Stealth Rock. Rapid Spin gives Scyther a chance to take neutral hits in order to 2HKO things. It also rids my team of Spikes damage, and can prevent Ferroseed's Leech Seed from sapping my health. SR is SR, allowing me to do 50% to Moltres before even touching it and is good to help Scyther get KOs. Earthquake is STAB, to harm things like Lanturn, Entei or anything not immune or resistant to it. Ice Beam is useful in order to hit Tangrowth for 40-47% damage, and to hit stray Flying-types. EVs are there to allow it to sponge various special attacks.

@
Trait: Volt Absorb
Nature: Calm
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Def / 216 SDef
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Volt Switch
- Heal Bell

Lanturn is amazing. It serves as a rather bulky cleric that can dish out damage on almost everything. Scald is a great STAB attack, giving it the 30% chance to inflict a burn and thus chip damage on things like Slowking, Ferroseed, Lilligant, Manectric, Scyther and more. Camerupt and Entei don't like the move much either. Ice Beam hits Tangrowth and Druddigon for plenty of damage. Volt Switch is fantastic Electric STAB, giving me more momentum, whilst letting me switch into something to check or counter the current pokemon. The EVs are used to give Lanturn great special bulk and decent physical bulk.

@
Trait: Iron Barbs
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball

Ferroseed is very useful, as it has so much use in checking most physical sweepers lacking a fire move for coverage and for certain special attackers. Spikes is very good for damaging Slowking, Tangrowth, Spinners and more for decent damage. Combine this with Stealth Rock, which is great for hurting Moltres and Scyther significantly. Leech Seed is my only way to recover health, and is good to harm Fire-types. Gyro Ball is my way around Sap Sipper pokemon like Bouffalant. It is a good tool against fast pokemon with boosts, like Weak Armor Kabutops. EVs and nature are standard fare, giving it a huge defense stat after the Eviolite boost.

  @
Trait: Pressure
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Flare Blitz
- Stone Edge
- Extremespeed
- Sleep Talk

Entei...thrust into the throes of obscurity by its' brethren...Suicune, Raikou, Zapdos...but in LU, it takes on the tier with a powerful STAB fire attack from an event that forces it into being shiny with an Adamant nature. Flare Blitz is strong STAB that dents everything bar bulky waters and some Fire-types. Stone Edge is strong, doing 65-70% to Kabutops on the switchin. Extremespeed is great, bypassing Sucker Punch from Hitmonlee/chan and is powerful enough to sweep teams when they have been sufficiently weakened. Sleep Talk is to go up against Lilligant's Sleep Powder, whilst still being useful and being able to KO it. EVs? No explanation needed.

Lastly:

Trait: Technician
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace
- Brick Break
- Quick Attack

Scyther is a beast. It sweeps teams with Quick Attack, ravages Steel-types with Brick Break, hits hard with Aerial Ace and smashes things with U-turn.
U-turn is the finishing touch to the VoltTurn strategy my team employs to great effect. It smashes Tangrowth, Slowking, Kabutops, Rotom-C and many other things for large damage, and synergises with Lanturn and Mowtom. Aerial Ace is very powerful, knocking powerful attackers and walls out of the skies (teehee), and hits 90 BP before STAB thanks to Technician. Brick Break hits Aggron for large damage, but it is rarely used. Quick Attack is powerful, and gives me sweeping power and revenge killing power. EVs? Bogstandard.

Thanks for reading, i'll mention threats to my team soon as it's late now.

My team has peaked at #62 on the PO LU ladder, which is a huge achievement for me. I am really proud of it, but if I need improvements, please suggest them for me!
