Battle Tree Troubles

Alright so I'm probably being extremely dumb and missing some key facts regarding this,
but
Ive been using a Klefki as my lead, and uh
ok so
im kinda really confused

I tried to use Thunder Wave and Swagger on a Torrent Greninja thats holding leftovers and everytime I do it says 'It doesnt affect the opposing Greninja...'
No move like taunt or safeguard had been used beforehand
I hit it with a foul play and it wasnt a Zoroark or anything
so im really stumped
And the same thing happened with a Mandibuzz and a Spiritomb so
Dark types I guess
Help??

This is intended, a move affected by Prankster will fail when used against a dark type. Also they nerfed confusion so the opponent will only hit themselves in confusion about 30% of the time. And the speed drop from paralysis was changed to 50% speed from 25% speed.
