Title: Showdown Replays
Post by: Richard and Blaziken on September 01, 2013, 04:08
So this is an idea I've had for a while, but wasn't sure how many people would be interested in such a thing, but I know I'd love to see people's replays. So in this topic, you can post replays from Pokemonshowdown.com. Post replays of sweeps, close wins, close losses, showing off your team / ideas to improve your team, or just funny things that have happened to you, and discuss other people's replays. Right now I started doing OU Suspect Test, and I played pretty perfectly in this match until the guy quit:

I have to say, your opponent wasn't very clever. He had X-scissor on Weavile, he told you to lay spikes when you had no spikers and he said he should've BPed when Prankster Taunt outspeeds any Ninjask regardless of boosts.

However, you definitely did a magnificent job there, you should be proud. Using Sableye to eventually outpredict Ninjask was a great play, and also WoW on Flygon as it came in was brilliant too. Keep it up and you'll be over 1950 on the ladder quite soon :)

Whoa, wait, I'm not saying you should be, that wasn't meant to be hostile xD

But do a little research into 5th gen's Uber movesets before attempting to battle. Things like Dream Eater and Nightmare are absolute garbage and waste Darkrai's move slots vs. any battler worth his salt.

This was VERY close. I have found that when I see a Genesect on the opposing team, Aegislash is usually a good bet to lead with King's Shield weakening their U-Turn or scouting for a Flamethrower. Most Genesect are Scarfed (though the one I fought this time wasn't), so it really takes the burden off your shoulders to predict, and if they do go for the obvious U-Turn to their physical wall, special Aegislash shows them that it's not very safe.

Honestly, that wasn't even worth watching. Your opponent was using Life Orb Shedinja, used ExtremeSpeed on Forry as if it carries some amazing priority move, tried to use a Fighting move on a Ghost, tried to use Explosion on a Ghost, used Trick with Toxic Orb when they could just use Toxic and still have an item... the amount of poor or just horrible choices they made makes for an embarrassing replay.

Doesn't really prove anything about Weakness Policy Aegislash either, since at +6, anything sweeps with priority. Not writing off WP Aegislash, just saying that WP wasn't even necessary for the exact same results. Everyone has matches where they clobber people that don't know any better, but I personally never post them or even save a replay because it doesn't prove anything... just kind of makes me feel like a schmuck.

It's a troll set. You run Brave with 0 IV's and gale wings. First turn priority, then you evade 2 attacks then attack with slowness. Then wash rinse repeat.

CM abusing Sylveon is fun:

Title: Re: Showdown Replays
Post by: Richard and Blaziken on March 07, 2014, 23:10
Focus Blast is neutral and Thunderbolt gets STAB'd, so it would have done more damage. That said, random sets can be wonky, and I know I've had a Thundurus-Therian with Nasty Plot, Agility, Focus Blast, Grass Knot before... not the most amazing set, but if that was the case, Focus Blast was his only option.

Eiiither way, I was mostly just tickled at the thought of a screaming giraffe destroying everything. :3

Someone challenged me (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-101761235) while I was doing a couple randoms before bed. He's a cool guy, and this just really goes to show how prepared for everything you need to be in this metagame. His team was pretty solid, but put one single Pokemon on the opposing side of the field and he has nothing that can safely switch in. Be mindful of your bulky/defensive Pokemon's weaknesses, especially if they have a quad weakness to something!

Title: Re: Showdown Replays
Post by: Richard and Blaziken on March 24, 2014, 14:14
Odd, in my sleepy state I must've not saved the replay. Ah well, all you need to know is that Omastar managed to Shell Smash on 2 separate occasions in the match, outsmart a Shuckle, and pretty much ensure a victory in a random battle. Was plenty of laughs.

Also, minor nitpick on the last battle: If your opponent wasn't an idiot, they'd have used Icicle Spear on Greninja after the Smash, and swept your entire team. Also, Crunch does more than EQ to Breloom off TTar, due to STAB. That aside, pretty well played! DD Mega TTar is pretty under-rated, but Mach Punch users (like... Breloom, oddly enough) stop it from being effective.

Title: Re: Showdown Replays
Post by: Richard and Blaziken on March 24, 2014, 14:58
Ehh, not meant to be arrogant; I apologize if that's how it came off. From my perspective, rage-quitting halfway through the match is what makes him a bad player, not the match itself. I 6-0'd the guy in the replay I posted before this, but went on to mention how he's a cool guy and I made an effort to say how he wasn't a bad battler, but simply that his team was unprepared for a single threat. The comment made about this guy being a "bad opponent" was more about quitting halfway through the match. Sorry if this explanation is long-winded and pointless, but I do not want to come across as elitist, or condescending. I just don't like poor sports.

This match (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-102789830) started poorly for me, but toss in some prediction when your opponent thinks they've got momentum on their side, and things can turn around in a big way. Bulky offense is a lot of fun when you predict well. =)

Title: Re: Showdown Replays
Post by: Delicious_Scout on April 19, 2014, 23:04
If I asked about Mew is because it is very unpredictable.

Mew is way bulkier, has U-Turn and Baton Pass. And has no problems first defoging and later Setting Up, although this is kind of messy. Yes, Mew lacks Rapid Spin so bad.

Espeon is for more offensive teams, and, if you are using Ferrothorn... tends to be better. Hmm... And Charizard needs Defog if one is not leading with it... ARGH! HALP!

^You do know that magic bounce Espeon does the same, doesn't remove her hazards, and bounces status too, right? Also it has the same typing. Just a penny for your thoughts. Not trying to tear down your work.

Espeon isn't reliable enough to keep hazards off the field, and Mew's bulky enough and unpredictable enough to keep them off the field.

Anyway, This one came pretty close (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-111687009)

If Mew hadn't been frozen, that would have been easier. Honestly, I find Mienshao to be pretty useful. It can't take a hit, but it is fast enough and can hit hard enough that it usually doesn't have to.

I thought it was going to be an excellent battle... until that HP Mamoswine. But before I was warned by that Thunderbolt Froslass.

*sigh* I wish I was able to use Hail teams again within Gen VI without being laughed at me. Seriously, the only decent place where I could do it was in Übers... with a Trick Room. The timing between the Room and Hail turned my hair white.

And the funny part was that it was preemptive parahax, since that turn, Heatran was unable to attack from paralysis.

...I just dislike being put on a timer. And what prediction? I just wasn't sending a paralyzed togekiss in against rotom... Then I locked into Outrage (on purpose, it wasn't a mis click), and hoped for the best.

I am one of those guys who disconnect the timer once I see the other is sensitive to my responses.

And about your predictions... go to Turn 20, when you draw your Rotom-Wash. You switch, kill and burn and kill and so on the rest of the Pokémon of the rival. Although being locked into Earthquake is very unfortunate.

I admit that Accelgor caught me by surprise.

I couldn't sleep, so I got up and decided to do a match on Showdown (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-145982100)

It wasn't my best played match, but I think turn 22 will show you the kind of handicap I deal with when I battle competitively. I really should just start using hyper offense, less chances for opponents to do this kind of thing.

In fairness that was a bad flinch for him to take, but yeah, LumChomp should be expected. You kinda have to go for the Wisp anyway in some cases, but it's by far the most common item on it.

Loving the look of your team btw, welcome to VGC! ;) SD Chomp is great fun but what move did you drop for it?

That flinch was long overdue, tbf, I'd had about 5 games previous and not got a single flinch xD But yeah, it was still pretty lucky to get it then!

And thanks, it was Protect I had to swap out but I've been really missing it so I'm thinking of dropping Dragon Claw instead? Not really sure if that's viable. Also thinking of dropping a few attack EVs to be able to survive Ludicolo's ice beam, as he's really annoying for my team =P - scratch that, uses too many EVs xD

Iiiii think that would be a bad plan ^^; Chomp's already got lowered damage output due to Rock Slide and EQ being weaker in Doubles, and even though SD counteracts that a little you don't want your highest-powered, only STAB move to be hitting your ally as well! Dragon Claw is its most reliable STAB move. If you drop anything other than Protect, Rock Slide is the weak option, but that depends on how well your team deals with Char Y and Talonflame.

Ah right, thanks, that makes sense ^^ Think I'll try protect > Rock Slide, but I know a lot of Talonflame/Charizard EV against Garchomps (and therefore Aerodactyls, as he has less attack) Rock Slide so I'll prolly end up just leaving it as it is to beat them and maybe adding Talonflame into my own team to deal with Ludicolo, would be nice to have something that can switch into will o wisp anyway tbh, Gardevoir can but it's a bit meh to have to bring Everytime the opponent has will-o-wisp xD

Been testing a new variation on my team after Dick reminded me that Togekiss gets both Wish and Defog. So far I'm 17 wins, 0 losses, but I don't really think Togekiss is working quite as well as Latias did. It lacks the Pursuit weakness, which is huge, but has many more weaknesses, and is a lot more frail in general, especially given her weakness to Stealth Rock. In any case, here's my most recent battle with it, where it finally did some things, even if they weren't all stellar: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-155228694 (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-155228694)

120 turns of stall (http://play.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-ou-157432613)

This is why you shouldn't rely on Sigilyph as a win-button. 16 PP isn't good for stalling if you can't break through the opposition.

Also, I've decided to stick with Latias for my team. Togekiss just doesn't cut it most of the time. The Pursuit weakness is worth not having an SR weakness, and Latias resists many things that are necessary for keeping my team together.

Ok, on another showdown server, they're doing this special league thing. You draft 3 mons from OU/BL, 3 from UU/BL2 and so on down. You face each person and try to counter their teams with your 12 pokemon roster. Torrent greninja and blaze blaziken are considered OU and shadow tag isn't banned. This is my first battle, and it's a bit of a throwback to generation 4. Scarfed Blaziken anyone? Also, language warning here, just so you know.

Tail Glow? Never heard of her. (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-483162382)

Note, idk what this guy was thinking bringing golem or seismetoad to gen 6 OU but both Mega Altaria and Manaphy rips his team apart.

Magic Bounce is still fun! (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7pokebankou-495553143)

(Also don't judge how garbage that team is, I just wanted to test a Staraptor / Landorus-T core, with them both having U-turn intimidate)

Edit: Baton Pass is actually pretty useful as a non-damagin U-turn 0_o (http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7pokebankou-497128359)

(This last slot is really hard to fill, Magearna just isn't working, might try Persian-A)

Huh, I didn't realise Ditto copied stat boosts, that's kind of interesting, might make Choice Scarf ditto and interesting answer to the crazy amount of setup sweepers running around.

Not sure why that guy used calm mind on +6/+6 tho, either or brain fart or only plays in game usually I guess xD
