Your Sprite Art / Re: The Metagame Spriters v4! [Gen 5 and 6!]
« on: September 07, 2014, 19:53 »
^ By all means, I'm flattered~! ^_^

i sort of put a restriction on dithering because unless done right it can look quite amateur. everyone is free to try it on their sprites but when i sprite i prefer the solid shading cause looking back at some of my dithered sprites they are... kind of bad whoops

also feel free to redo any of your old sprites so long as they are actually yours, not someone elses you just don't like, even if they are no longer active ^^

That makes sense ^^ I've certainly never been great at dithering, but some people are - I guess it is a very easy trap for new spriters to fall into.

And ta, I'll pop my Hydreigon up when it's done, might fix up Whimsi as well - in the meantime, I'll work on Cottonee~ <3

Am mod, can confirm this is fine here as long as the spriting is as much of a significant factor in the judging as the creation itself ^_^

I'd be tempted to enter, but I'm not sure about you guys being allowed to use my sprite wherever you like.. ^^; honestly that comes across as a bit sketchy!

That's fair, I'll hold off on the Megas then ^_^

Also dragoncat, yours are really cute linearts but they kinda look antialiased (soft shading), while this project is designed to use spriting / pixel art techniques like cel-shading instead.. ^^; the Goodra is adorable, though, would definitely use the same lineart just with a spriting shading style!

Yeah, it does seem to have switched back to the Mega being the more common form again now - standard Gengar saw a huge popularity boost after German Nationals, but the Mega has risen again now.

Is Mega Kang on a level with Mewtwo Y?! Geeeez.. I know they were hyping Kanga as competitive when they revealed it at Worlds 2013, but I wonder if they knew quite what they'd created. Makes me wonder, given that Masuda revealed Mega Slowbro at Worlds 2014 and claimed that he thought we'd see a lot of it in the new metagame =P

Glad to see this up and running again! I love the Delphox, Flabébé and Zweilous ^_^

I did a few 100x100 ports recently that I can crop down to 78x78, hope they can be of use!

Also if you're accepting Megas (though Kang didn't crop down too well, sadly.. by all means reject it if you feel it doesn't show enough of the mon!):

Can I also ask, why the restriction on dithering? We allow a lot of over-shaded sprites and other styles, is dithering not just a particular style of shading?

Also Dwebble wasn't mine but Hydreigon was, but the Hydreigon is bad and I'd like to redo it please.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to rename my files! Though Photobucket seems to change the names of the files upon uploading anyway, now.. =/ Is there a preferred image uploader that doesn't do this?

Wow, that Destiny Bond Mega Gengar set is horrifying. I'm thankful that it doesn't have the same sort of power in Doubles due to its frailty - Gothitelle is a more common Shadow Tag user - but Perish Trap remains such an unnerving strategy to notice in team preview, just in case the opponent can outpredict you.

It is very interesting that they're even considering banning Gengarite from Ubers but I can see it - I have to wonder, though, if it's that insanely broken, why has it taken this long to address it? Has that set only been discovered recently?

Either way, great article as always, Rich! ^_^ I liked the discussion of family favourite mons at the end haha.

Random Randomness / Re: Baking!

Reading this topic makes me want to bake all the things - definitely making notes for things to try out!

I'm no great baker, what I make is normally tasty but looks a bit naff =P I make tasty mince pies though, I'm told, which is for the best since I make dozens every Christmas.. ^^;

I did produce this silly little fellow a few months ago, though, because everyone needs more cube-headed Dewgong cakes in their lives:

My housemate came home to find a scrawled sign on the fridge saying "Warning: Contains slightly deformed, very happy sea lion."

It's not meant to impress anyone, kiddo.

*throws a rulebook at your head*
Sylar is unimpressed, I am unimpressed and your family is unimpressed. Keep things family friendly and chill yo!

I'm currently annoyed and bugged by my inability to eat a chicken leg with a knife and fork. Is there some delicate technique to this that I'm missing? Why does anybody use cutlery on these things and not just their fingers?!

Random Randomness / Re: Best skill you've ever developed?

Possibly cooking; I couldn't boil an egg or cook pasta with certainty before university, but now I'm pretty good at deciding what will work well together, knowing how to tell if food's cooked properly, that sort of thing. It rarely looks professional but it generally tastes good =P

Changing nappies without a mat and keeping the carpet clean, that's a skill I pride myself on.

I'm still pretty proud of my pixel art, but I'm incredibly rusty.

Also I can sing and drum the cups song from Pitch Perfect, which has earned me free drinks before \o/

Look at all of you that can drive, like real grownups.. I really should get around to doing that, but I'd be such a skittish driver D:

Yep, bulbapedia's page says "Klutz does not prevent the user from Mega Evolving via Mega Stone."

I assume it's been hacked on and tried or something, because is don't know how they can know? But yeah, it can.

Skill Swap, I'd imagine! Swapping Klutz onto something holding a Mega Stone and seeing if it can still use it.

26
Thought: can Klutz Lopunny Mega-Evolve..?

EDIT: Nevermind, a little research says that Klutz doesn't affect Mega Stones. Makes sense.

AAAAAAHHH!!

I hoped beyond hope, when we saw how the first lot of Megas just got more fluffy, that Mega Altaria would happen and reach new levels of fluff.. and it happened, I can't believe it happened! So happy <3

I also really like the other two but Altaria wins everything today.

I'm uncertain what makes this unpermitted in VGC, though. Do Friend Safari Pokemon not count as caught in Kalos or something? Seems like the only way to get a Togepi short of Pokemon Bank, but then you could just breed for another, right?

VGC mons currently have to be in the Kalos dex, which some Friend Safari mons aren't (as well as Kalos-native, ie born or caught in Kalos). Togekiss isn't part of the Kalos dex.

Togekiss doesn't get Spore, that's for sure. Smeargle isn't too common in VGC, from what I know.

Yeah Smeargle went through a phase early this year of being super-popular as a lead alongside Kanga, but it's died in popularity again since.

Safety Goggles is pretty fantastic in VGC because blocks both Spore and Rage Powder (and there are basically no legal Follow Me users); it's pretty much an anti-Amoonguss item, and Amoonguss is very common. Plus there's a lot of Sleep Powder kicking around on Venusaur sets.

But overall it's just so chic and stylish!

Hahaha I'm so glad I'm not the only one who got confused by the "toilet paper on a house" question! This is so cool to listen to, it's somehow so much more personal than just reading what people are saying ^__^ I'll do mine tomorrow, since if I started recording myself now the family would think I was going quite mad.

Also Bad Wolf, as soon as you said "ere you go, 'ave that" your Yorkshireishness shone through there ;P
