My team for Silver is:
Typlosion
Noctowl
Lanturn
Umbreon
Exeggutor
Wigglytuff
What do you think?
-
get rid of Noctowl, it is the worst basic bird in the series so far. Use a Crobat instead. Wigglytuff is... okay I guess. You can use it if you want to but there are way better normal types out there. Lanturn is mediocre at best in-game, Umbreon is a really nice wall. Exeggutor is also really good, as a wall, I wouldn't recommend it when you already have Umbreon, and Typhlosion is amazing.
I recommend rethinking your team building process
-
I was thinking, what about Haunter instead of Exeggutor?
Lanturn is good because that's one less pokemon that's weak to electric and can surf!
I wanted to try Noctowl!
I was going to have espeon, but I wanted Exeggutor, so....
Wigglytuff, don't ask!
Typhlosion, because I don't need totodile when I got Lanturn and I can't remember why I said no to Chikorita....
-
Don't do Noctowl, it's garbage in-game, Haunter is a good replacement for Exeggutor. I won't stop you using Lanturn or Wigglytuff. If you're going to use Haunter, swap Umbreon with Espeon, Dark and Ghost are almost the exact same in this gen.

What should I get that can learn fly instead of Noctowl?
Don't say Pidgey, got that in another game!
Only things I can legit get without trading or cheating!

Crobat.
I actually kind of recommend rethinking the half of you team that you aren't changing (Lanturn, Typhlosion, and Wigglytuff), you need lots of type variety, and the way your team is going, Red is going to get tons harder. He's not that hard, all you really need is a good set of Pokemon and an okay idea of battling strategy.
I recommend Crobat, Steelix if you can get your hands on one (Sandslash if not), and Heracross.
-
I'll get Crobat. I could Dratini instead of Exeggutor and try and evolve it! Maybe Sandslash instead of Wigglytuff.... but then I got Typlosion... not a good combination!

What about Typhlosion, Crobat, Steelix if you can get our hands on one (Sandslash if not), Lanturn, Exeggutor, and Umbreon?

Can't get Steelix! What about Heracross instead?
My team now (so far) is:
Typlosion
Crobat
Lanturn
Heracross?
Umbreon
Dragonite?
-
have you tried Tentacruel?
-
No (not properly anyway) but I want to, but it wouldn't be the best idea, having two Poison types (Crobat and Tentacruel)
Maybe in Fire Red/Leaf Green?

What I was thinking was this team setup:
Typhlosion
Tentacruel
Xatu
Magneton
Umbreon
Heracross
-
I was going to use magneton in fire red/leaf green (can't remember which)
Tbh, I prefer crobat than xatu! I just spent ages finding one and it's available way earlier!
My Leaf Green team is
Arbok
Rhydon
Vaporeon
Fearow
Hypno
Magneton

There is no problem with reusing good Pokemon. Especially since you don't have many options.

That's fine too, so do I. We just can't have more than 1 of the same type.

I just have this thing about reusing pokemon I've already used (recently)
Is my Fire Red team OK?

Your Fire Red team is fine, I was editing my previous post, then found this one, then undid the edit. I somehow looked over that the team suggestion in the edit happened to have 2 ground types, so here's a new one
Typhlosion
Nidoking (The best ground type)
Poliwrath
Xatu
Umbreon
Magneton
Finding a balanced team with as much coverage as possible is always complicated, especially in the earliest games.
-
I could (for better type coverage)
Get an Exeggutor instead of Hypno.
Get Moltres to replace Fearow (I'd use Fearow till then)
My Leaf Green Team would be:
Ninetales
Seaking
Diglett/Graveler/Nidoking or Queen
Pidgeot
The rest, not a clue!
I'd like to (please don't kill me for saying this) use Raticate! I've been wanting to for ages! But if not, OK.

Can I not have a Crobat instead of Xatu and get a different Pokemon to replace Nidoking? I've been wanting to use Zubat for ages as well!

Sure, you can get an Exeggutor to replace Nidoking, and safely switch Xatu with Crobat then. You'd have to sacrifice the STAB boosted Earthquake though. :/

Yes, you can use it! Guts Raticate is freaking scary!
-
OK. My Leaf Green team is
Ninetales
Pidgeot
Seaking
Victreebel
Raticate
Electrode
I kept the main four types in mind (fire, water, grass and electric) I wanted a Nido, but I could do that in Yellow...
Which one should I get? King or Queen?

Nidoking, and I usually ditch the grass type because I hate using it, way too many downsides to most of the pokemon and the type for my tastes.
