Wait, really? Can't say I've played their Star Wars games, but I have vague memories of playing a friend's NES port of Maniac Mansion. They'll be missed, I'm sure.

I think the reason it's being shut down is because it's not doing very well in terms of selling good games. I wouldn't have thought it's anything to do with them taking Star Wars over.
Their licenses (which I assume means all the original non-Star Wars stuff they did) is going to rented out to companies.
Sad.
To be honest, Lucas Arts only made one REALLY good game after Grim Fandango and that was Knights of the Old Republic II
obsidian made kotor2, and bioware made kotor1.. lucasarts, for the most part, is/was just a publisher

you can see that most of the titles they were known for were only published by them, although there were a couple here and there that they made themselves, like republic commando (how good was this) and the force unleashed
