Title: New mechanics?
Post by: Richard and Blaziken on September 13, 2013, 15:13
Some sources seem to be stating that there are several new battle mechanics in X/Y. These are as follows:

-Ghost types are no longer affected by moves that prevent fleeing such as Mean Look.
-Grass Pokémon can't be seeded or affected by moves such as SleepPowder or Stun Spore.
-Electric types can no longer be Paralyzed

Personally... these seem weird to me. I guess I understand the Grass one, but Paralysis isn't intrinsically linked with Electricity? It doesn't make sense to me. No one uses Mean Look anymore now that it can't be Baton Passed, so that's of little relevance, but there it is. What are your opinions on these supposed changes?

I guess you could say paralysis and electricity are linked with the whole thing where the nervous system uses electricity in a form, but I think it's more that paralysis is the 'electric type status', so it can't effect them. I don't think it's going to mean much, although a scary thought is megaampharos with Mold breaker being unparalyzable...

Ghost types will at least be immune to Perish Trapping now, not really great but it's a bonus, I guess...

I'm happy with the changes, the paralysis makes some sense to me depending on the move. It doesn't make any sense that an electric type should be paralyzed by an electric attack but if we're talking about Stun spore or Body Slam then I'm not sure why they wouldn't be paralyzed.

The grass type changes are very welcome though, it's not much but it sure does help. Grass type is at a real loss nowadays.

Electric types could presumably jolt their own nervous system and block paralysis happening. You can get ice and chemical burns - it's not linked to fire yet fire types are immune to it. This is no different.

^Just to add to this, Kyurem-W signature move is Ice Burn, and that has a chance of burning.

Honestly, I think that Water types shouldn't be able to be burned.

I agree with Turner in that Electric Pokemon should still get paralyzed by the following moves: Stun Spore, Body Slam, Secret Power, Force Palm, Bounce, and Glare. I didn't add Tri Atrack as the game move info implies it uses an electrical beam as part of the attack.

So Overcoat protected a Pokémon from sleep powder, interesting.

Weather has been nerfed, sleep counter doesn't reset upon switching any more.

:o

Very interesting stuff being discovered.

Dual type moves are a thing now! My Hawlucha just learned Flying Press, which says it's flying and fighting simultaneously =O

Rest and Sleep Talk is now viable again yay!

Exp can now be gained by capturing a Pokemon...nice for catching sprees I guess.
Defeating a horde of Pokemon at once nets you more Exp as well...some of you know these already, but they're worth posting.

I don't think ghost types are affected by abilities as well, such as arena trap and magnet pull

its really nice anyway, though? i dont know about you but when im training on victory road or something and i find a rare pokemon, i both was the exp from defeating it and i want it in my pokedex.

plus, the new exp share mechanic is really nice. it saves a lot of frustration when training, decided who to give the share to and who to fight. now it doesn't really matter who fights, everyone in the team gets a share from watching.

^I was glad that Exp. All returned better than it was originally although I DID like Exp. All. But the Exp. All is better in general and I LOVE how you get it after getting Santalune Gym's Badge!

So apparently defog removes all hazards on the field now, rather than just yours.

A rapid spin that can't be blocked? Interesting.
