Simply post your miserable Pokemon game failures from years back for the laughs. I still look back in my failures and laugh at my stupidity.
For example, when I found Poison hurt your Pokemon out side of battle, the shake the screen did for effect made me think my DS was possessed by Giratina.
I also thought for two years that Fire had no effect on Ground. I also thought Grass was super effective on Steel and could never understand why a Razor Leaf did next to nothing to a Metagross.
I also used my Master Ball... ON A FREAKING BIDOOF.
Oh yes, I also spent all of my D/P/P money getting game corner coins. I eventually ended up with a quarter of the coins I started with. Genius.
I once clicked 'Release' on my Shiny Weavile because I thought it would come out of my DS and into the real world... Dammit, brain.
Yep. If any of you can beat THOSE... Wow.
My early pokemon techniques:
BLAST EVERYTHING WITH FLAMETHROWER/CHARIZARD/FIRE OMG IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE AGAINST EVERYTHING WOOOOOOOOO.
BLAST EVERYTHING WITH HYDRO PUMP/BLASTOISE/WATER OMG IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE AGAINST EVERYTHING WOOOOOOOOO.
BLAST EVERYTHING WITH RAZOR LEAF/VENUSAUR/GRASS OMG IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE AGAINST EVERYTHING WOOOOOOOOO.
hahahahaha I was like.... 6 at this stage.

I can fully relate to all of this...
I used to think that water would be super effective against dragon types.
I always thought Gyarados was dragon and Azurill was water.
But other than that I was smart xD
i used to think if you snapped your cartridge all of the pokemon would come out and be your friends
i tried to give my cousin loads of pokemon because they had pokemon blue with almost all of the pokemon and i just
hammered it in half trying to get her new friends
we both cried because we both knew what death was and we'd killed ALL OF THOSE POKEMON
I complained to my dad that I couldn't escape battles in Ruby.
He looked in the instruction manual and told me what I had to do.
It wasn't even a glitch or anything I just didn't see the massive "RUN" in the corner of the screen.
I had to turn off the power every time I reached a double battle in Sapphire because I had no idea how to work them.
I used to think that dustox was bug/flying
one time I used a masterball on electabuzz, i'd spent hours looking for one and couldn't find it, and then found one only to have no balls left in my bag sans the master ball, and just went... "screw it, why not".
i had to keep starting over because i didnt know how to save...
My earliest error was well on my very first playthrough of Red when I was 10 using my masterball on a Raticate, thinking I wouldn't regret it at all, fast forward a few days and I'm up against Mewtwo, all my pokemon except my Charizard where under leveled and my Charizards exact moveset was Ember, Fire spin, Fire blast and Flamethrower.
Needless to say Mewtwo wiped the floor with me so I restocked on items and was smart bringing along my friends Venusaur just to put it to sleep so I could actually hit the thing with balls, only to find it it was no longer there.
After this I began playing Gold due to disappointment and frustration. During this play through of gold I completely missed Entei, Raikou and Suicune and by the time I learnt about them, I'd already used the tm for rock smash and deleted the move from my Sudowoodo. I Immediately started a new game losing all my pokemon from Red and my lv 93 Feraligatr, only to find out the next day that you can buy Rock smash from one of the big department stores.
oh! another one! in gen I and II i didn't know how to exit doors and it took me half an hour to get down the first stairs from when you start the game and i had this problem in gen 3 for like 2 seconds but got used to a new strategy
just bump against the walls until you get out i guess
but thing is i couldn't even identify the exit tiles i thought they were just decorative rugs???
^OMG I had that exact same problem when I first started playing Sapphire. It took me a whole day to get out of the truck at the beginning.
It's bug/poison my friend.
I only raised Pikachu in Yellow Version on my first playthrough. I somehow made it all the way to Lance before this became a problem. I believe the moveset it had was Thundershock, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Body Slam. I had some very weird sentimental attachment to Thundershock and thought it was wrong to delete it.
I couldn't find Cinnabar Island for like 6 months after beating Sabrina and never thought to look at my map.
Upon finding Mewtwo in Yellow Version, talking to it in the overworld prompts it to say "MEW!". I went running through the house, screaming to my sister that I'd found Mew, and she rushed to come see, only for me to press A and come face-to-face with Mewtwo. I was pretty disappointed.

I know that feeling all too well... I accidentally deleted Thundershock playing Yellow and immediately burst into tears, before my dad reminded me that I could just turn the power off...
i used to think fire spin was a good move
The first time I played Pokémon Blue I turned the game off without saving. I had gotten to Cerulean City only having a Wartortle in my party. :(
(to be fair that was the first game I ever played where you had to save manually. Most games autosaved your progress or didn't have a save function)
When I played crystal (after getting and playing Emerald, which is now my brother's), I thought that whirlpool was a strong move.
I had a copy of Gold for GameBoy Colour and I gave it to my brother's friend in return for his copy of FireRed.
One of THE worst mistakes of my life.
took the "mashing a for capture" thing to an extreme
one time i was so convinced, i mashed a and then i had this thing where i would like turn the gba or whatever handheld upside down as i thought not looking at it would raise my chances. then i turned my gbcolour upside down and slid it across a basketball court whilst battling lugia... actually caught it, too!
I was playing with the whole gotta catch em all thing. I couldn't find a cofagrigus, so I decided to take along a Yamask. My other Pokemon have fainted through training the thing. I come across an Audino and I have no non-ghost moves except will o wisp. I burn it.
BUT THE FREAKING THING HAS REFRESH and I didn't know, and it took me 15 minutes to realise I was wasting PP of all my other moves and it wasn't even getting burn damage.

Very. Very bad!
However I gave away my copy of Blue. Which is totally worse.
Masterball on a Diglett in Pokemon Blue
Hours and Hours of game play on the first day. Didn't save it, Turned my gameboy off.
I caught a Pinser in Pokemon Gold to try and win the bug catching contest. Some boy caught a Butterfree, guess what, I came second. Damn Pinser is so much better. I got so angry that I bit the top of my Gameboy colour.... Yes I broke the screen. straight down the middle.
^ I've bitten my DS lite a lot, broke for different reasons.
Um....
I thought that infernape was better than Blaziken.
Back then I was young and foolish.
Saw a shiny Wurmple on Ruby and I thought it was a glitch so I killed it. Oh and now I can't find any shiny's anywhere!
I chose Turtwig... 'Nuff said.
Don't be bigoted, Torterra is cool.
I do seriously LOVE Torterra, it's just the speed kicks it in the ass every time. Sure, I usually use it as a good wall with that HP stat, Leech Seed and Synthesis...
But then an Ice Shard waltzes in and screws all that up.
I think you've just discovered another beginner's mistake: leaving Torterra in against a Pokemon that knows ice shard.
Getting a chimchar from my brother.
I was such an idiot.
The first starter I raised to level 100 was a Blaziken. Why I ever thought to waste my time on it, I'll never know.
(I miss my level 100 Espeon and Milotic though :'( )
I releases lombre with my only exp share damn
I tried to ask youngster timmy where do I go after taking on brock
I knocked out articuno
I droped my gameboy fighting lance and it glicthed
I named gary a cool ass name . I forgot What it was
I bought that magikarp from that guy for 5000$

I always buy that Magikarp. Support local business!!
I would always get rid of stat boosting moves as a kid. Around the time of Diamond and Pearl I started realizing that they were very helpful.

I thought Swords Dance and Nasty Plot just added two points to the stat, not doubling it... I thought the moves were for low level Pokemon or idiotic trainers. WHOOPS.

I still do this ingame xD
I used to always teach everything hyper beam (I still do occasionally!!) not realising it's not actually as powerful as a strong STAB move.
I used to think STAB was only *1.25 if you had two STABs (it was in the strategy guide for RSE!!! What a rip-off!)

That's the best one.
G/S
1.
Very first time I played Pokemon and it was Pokemon Silver. Anyhow being 8 or 9 I spent probably 2 hours trying to get out of the house. I found the stairs fine, but I didn't know how on earth how to get out. I just thought the mat was one people lay out to make the place look pretty. Aren't I cool.
2.
Then I didn't know what saving was. I was such a game noob. Played like 3 times picking Totodile each time until my cousin showed me how to save.
3.
Masterball on Graveler, not cause it was an accident. I just really liked Golem at the time.
4.
Training Haunter to level 60 not realising it needed to be traded.
5.
Playing crystal I never knew about Mt. Silver. So for some reason I traveled victory road again, went to Pokemon League then saw; "OMG I CAN GO BEHIND HIM". So explored that, found Red. I shrugged and was like "oh it's me." (The sprite's the same). BAM BAM BAM. Oh.. these Pokemon are high levels. Thank god I have my Lv 100s on me and won ^^
6.
I didn't know Crobat existed. Raised a Zubat for a change on Crystal. Oh golly gosh, HOW IS THIS THING EVOLVING? GOLBATS DONT EVOLVE. OMG THAT IS SOOO COOOL.
7.
Struggled quite a lot in Kanto in Crystal.
8.
As a kid you heard about Lugia and Ho-oh, but I never knew how to actually get them. Stumbled across Lugia like; "Oh there it is. THAT'S SO COOL". Never found Ho-oh and to this day I've never caught a Ho-oh. I've got one through trades and events though ^^
9.
Forgot to fight Jasmine after doing the lighthouse quest.
R/S/E
R/S/E didn't have too many mess ups. But there's a few and being 12 with my friend was amazing.
1.
Tried to get Zangoose. Spend hours trying. Oh it's not in Sapphire... lovely.
2.
Picked Lileep when I loved Anorith
3.
Didn't what Rayquaza was. Climbed a tower for the hell of it.
4.
Didn't go to pacifilog town for well... ages.
5.
It's not really a mistake, but doing the braille for the Regi's was absolutely amazing fun. I think I caught Rock/Ice/Steel in that order. I remember sleeping round a friends house catching Regice and trying all the time in the world.
6.
I bought Pokemon Channel... did get a Jirachi tho.
7.
Actually made a team of Lv 30's for the union room. Lol.
8.
This one's actually IRL. I was at the 10th Anniversary event. It was amazing. Anyway, that day I got a Mew and a Celebi I just went up to everyone asking if they wanted one (It wasn't giving them away at the event). I'd clone it for them and everything.
FUN FACT: My breeding partner (Please read that carefully ;) ) was traded to me that day. A Shiny Camperupt with magma armour. I still use it even today. It's called Bluenumel because the kid was young.
9.
Went to an event with Lv 100s. Terrible idea.
Will do D/P, BW and XY in a bit.
Didn't anyone else think they would beat Brock with Pikachu in Yellow? I can't be the only one that got sucked in by the anime. Also I let my friend play and he fainted when fighting Team Rocket in Mt Moon and told me they took my Pikachu - I thought I'd have to hunt them down, only to find him KO'd in my party :nowink:
Also, in Gen II, I wouldn't heal at Cherrygrove pokecentre before the first rival battle, so if I lost against him I would be back in New Bark Town and wouldn't have to fight him again
I somehow managed to beat the entire game of Yellow with a Pikachu. Not really sure how I got through Giovanni the first time, because when I tried redoing this I needed things like X Defense to stop him getting killed too easily by Earthquakes.
I did the whole train-only-your starter thing in my first playthroughs of Pokemon games.
After I learned about balancing your team out and stuff I decided to catch every single Pokemon I came across and train EVERY SINGLE ONE.
Beginners mistake andddddd a mistakes I still do today.
1. I never use; X-Attack, Defense, Sp Def.... ect ect. I just don't see the point in them. I'm like Gary. If their not strong enough without these add-ons. They should not appear in my team. Nintendo should not be promoting Steroids! :).
2. I never use Full Restore/Max Potion Ect in battle. I wait till after the battle to heal all my Pokemon, but then I don't go around the Marts to by all these amazing items. Why? you ask. Oh I don't know. Same as above. I just like to heal my Pokemon in the Pokemon Centre a lot & I like fainting. Strange one aren't I? I'll only use a healing item if I have found it in the wild.
I'll try and think of some more crazy things that I don't bother doing like the above.
I never understood registering with select. I thought 'SEL' was an abbreviated form of 'SELL' and would sell my Key items so I totally avoided that and I thought 'Register' had something to do with registering something on the internet (Which was relatively new and dial up back then) and I never touched it in fear of my mum getting a huge bill.
i didnt know what a shiny was and killed a shiny zubat in pearl

ive never actually used one of those things to this day haha
In RUBY,
When I got nuzleaf in LV 14, I use leaf stone......
After that it didn't learn any move!!!!!!
SO sad(http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/f/f7/275Shiftry.png)
In Emerald, I only trained my starter, Treeko. By the third gym, Wattson, he was level 39 (a Sceptile by that point) and the rest of the team were level 5 max. My cousin taunted me on how bad a trainer I was, so I released my Sceptile and raised a numel in his place. It took me months to recuperate from that bad decision to only train Treeko.

This........
Well, the only thing I can think of is thinking that you were allowed to leave the Elite 4 chambers and go to the Pokemon Center any time you felt like it.
It never occurred to me in Diamond that you could actually catch Dialga, Giratina or the pixies. I just assumed they were boss fights.
I forgot granbull was a fairy type.
Easy mistake to make.
The first pokemon game I was ever able to play was Sapphire, because I didn't have a handheld before that. But, ever since then, I'd teach my entire party HM moves, then I discovered they couldn't be deleted. I even taught HMs to Kyogre and Lugia. :(
It's only when I started playing X that my friend told me it's better if I just get another pokemon and teach it most of the hm moves that aren't powerful. So I taught surf to my Froakie and the rest I taught to a random bidoof. Which I got through GTS by trading my rotom for it
My friend was surprised that I did that, and he even got on me for trading my Moltres for Yveltal. I'm not a legendary collector like him, I won't use moltres so why not use him to get a pokemon I will use, like awesome Yveltal 8)
Besides, I have two sets of the Kanto birds in Diamond and Platinum anyways. Unlike him, I don't plan on trading away my Xerneas for Yveltal, then trading all my pokemon to another friend to keep while I restart just to get Xerneas back in order to have both.
I spent my childhood believing that electric attacks would not affect rock-types because my Pikachu in Yellow couldn't defeat Brock.
It was only many years later when someone from pkmn.net told me that I realised.
-_-;
Putting two male pokemon in the day care, spend hours trying to work out why they can't breed, and hen it suddenly clicks >_>
I've done this way to often xD

...

I was breeding Houndours for the moves Thunder Fang and Sucker Punch, and I forgot that the Pokémon in the egg will always turn out to be the mother's species.
When i first played emerald, I picked mudkip.
that was the good thing to do
*Sends out blaziken*
Say that again?
it didnt have speed boost in gen 3 i dont think
and swamperts design is kickass
so yeah ill say it again
that was the good thing to do
In FR/LG, I used my masterball on an Articuno.
To be fair, I used my masterball on Xerneas, but that was because I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of fighting it any more and I'm sure it burnt itself.
^Yeah, in hindsight, using my masterball on Xerneus wasn't my best idea.
I used to think, in GSC, that Ice was not very effective against dragons. A big surprise when I OHKO'd Dragonite with an Ice Beam coming from Staryu.
Well I can't really remember many of my mistakes. But one mistake I still remember, probably because it was completely stupid. But when I was younger I used to think that we could only have six pokemon, that you couldnt cath anymore and put it in that box thing. So when I only had six pokemon, I remember that when I went through Mt.Coronet I saw a wild gliscor! For real I did! And i remember thinking oh I already have six pokemon so I let it escape. I found out I could have more than six okemon was when I told my cousin, whats so humiliating was that she was younger than me and knew that and not me. XD
I thought when I had emerald (in my brother's possession), I got to victory road without flash (you may applaud). Then I couldn't find my way out, so I quit.
up until today i thought rock smash was a rock type move
My first pokemon game was yellow and I was so young when I started playing that I couldn't read. getting the game for my birthday is actually one of my earliest memories. That's the beginner's mistake right there, playing the game before you can read.
For some more specific examples:
It literally took me years to get past the first gym (starting with pikachu did not help)
When I finally did, I got a little farther in the game then reset. I did that a lot.
Later, I got crystal and was much more successful (partly because by then I could read. a little...), I almost beat the game, but I still did a lot of stupid things, like using my master ball on a skarmory.
Of course, I did that thing where you only ever use your starter, so that was a pretty bad beginners mistake (and I continued to do that right up until DPPt, though my first diamond play through did that to some extent)
Actually, in the first two gens, I never even used any pokemon besides my starter and the first five I caught because I didn't understand how the PC boxes worked
Really, the only reason I got as far as I did in crystal was because my mom helped me (because she was awesome)
I used my only Master Ball on a Zubat (Lv. 30, Seafloor Cavern), and killed every legendary in Emerald. What a fit of idiocy...
Also, I believed the girl who said Pacifidlog was on top of Corsolas. And I used the Master Ball on Thundurus. And Xerneas. And couldn't beat the Hoenn E4 until my Swampert was Lv. 91. And I wasted my only Moon Stone on a Jigglypuff. And misread Lisia's name as Lisa.
