Exactly as the title says, this is a thread to post your own ideas of how to rejuvenate the pokemon franchise. Now, I'm not saying pokemon is dying, it's still going somewhat strong thankfully. Though I do think it needs a kick me up(kick it hard! >.<).
Here's my thoughts, ever since the Unova region, I have noticed some slacking when it came to pokemon ideas here and there. Nothing major quite yet, but you can definitely spot them a bit too easily, and even now in X and Y. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but whenever I run across some of the pokemon, the first thought that comes to my mind is "are you serious?!"
Fans of pokemon since the first generation know very well that pokemon were originally based off of animals and plantlife, they were suppose to replace them in the pokemon world. Though, now it seems the creators have run out of animals to base pokemon off of and are heading into a weird direction. Come on, don't tell me you guys haven't noticed that twin scooped ice cream cone pokemon? Now, there's nothing wrong with this, okay who am I kidding, it's just plain weird to have a pokemon based off of food. No, just no v_v .
Next thing you know, we'll be having a pokemon based off of a burger and some fries. Or maybe even one based off of a desk and a lamp. You know what? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they made a pokemon based off of a lamp. I mean, a sword being possessed by a ghost is okay, there is that story of inanimate objects coming to life after 100 years of use in Japanese folklore after all. I have to say, it is kind of funny in a way, I mean, if they continue in the direction they're going, someone could make an entire house out of pokemon. You have your matching pokemon couch, table, lamp, spooky curtain, and even a trusty chair and bed  .
Enough joking around, back to the main subject at hand. One of my idea's I thought of to rejuvenate the series, is for Nintendo to perhaps hold a contest online for fans to submit art for a new line of pokemon for a new region Nintendo has created. Or if that's a bit of a stretch, perhaps just 3 new starters with their evolution or the new legendaries for that region. I also like the idea for a contest to come up with the new hero/heroine for the new region as well.
*Shrugs* It's an idea that I think would help out Nintendo in getting back into that creative feel of pokemon, while also pleasing many fans. I don't know about you guys, but I hang out at deviantart quite a bit, and I see so many people who have such potential in coming up with pokemon ideas. I've seen 5 artists who are completely awesome, they came up with their own line of pokemon(fakemon) who look legit and really cool, they even have descriptions for them.
Some already have come up with their own characters like the scientist, hero/heroine, the rival, and even the bad guys. One guy though had my eyes popping, he literally did an entire layout of his own original region down to every little detail with name and everything. He has characters for that region including bad guys and his own set of pokemon to go with it along with legendaries. I thought that was amazing in itself.
Anyways, what about you guys?

Know what's funny? Nintendo did let fans design a few Pokemon for gen 5. From what I understand, Vanillite's line is the product of that. Most Fakemons I see are horrible, horrible abominations and I don't feel like turning the franchise over to the fans would produce things much better than what we've seen. I honestly feel like it'd produce many more of the problems you've complained about.
Honestly, I think X and Y have been wonderful for fan service. Pokemon Amie alone is something people have wanted forever. Super Training has made it soooo easy for casuals to get into competitive battling, especially with the amazing new breeding mechanics. Mega Evolution is a cool new mechanic that they'll assuredly make more use of in the future, allowing many more underused Pokemon to rise to the ranks of better Pokemon (just look at Kangaskhan!). The 3D models are amazing and I don't think they get nearly enough credit for that. To make over 900 completely different 3D models for Pokemon, as well as animations for all of them... that's a huge amount of work they put in.
Anyway, just my opinion. I think Pokemon is at a better point now than it has ever been, and I'm really excited for the future of the series.
I agree with you Richard on a few of your statements, like I said, I really enjoy X and Y compared to anything black and white offered. In fact, X and Y were my main reasons for scrounging up the money to even buy a 3ds xl this year, before I never even cared to get that system since the 3d deal turned me off to it. That's saying something if a game prompts you into getting a system.
I didn't know that Nintendo had done that before, and I can also agree on seeing some horrible looking fakemons. But the ones I was talking about looked professional, as if Nintendo themselves had come up with that pokemon. They weren't crappy like fakemons usually are, they didn't look fanmade at all. That's how good they were, even the descriptions were pretty well fitted to them and thought out. I think they could find some pretty awesome fakemons out there among fans, no ice cream cone weird food thing. I hope that's the last food pokemon they will ever make, stick to animals and maybe well thought out inanimate objects if you have to. Though I honestly think they should stick to animals, but I understand, there's only so many animals you can come up with to base pokemon off of.
Honestly, I've never really cared for competitive battling or the whole breeding them of pokemon, so I can't comment on those parts. I have used pokemon Ahmie and I love the whole playing with your pokemon and petting them. Though I've only ever used the training part once or twice, it didn't appeal to me as much. What really got me into pokemon X and Y is the whole fact you can customize your character, that is a feature I've been wanting them to add to a pokemon game for years. I really hope they continue to keep that feature in and improve upon it. As for the megaevolutions, I like them, though something in my gut is scared that they might not continue to keep that feature for more than past the next game in this gen.

Some of those fakemon you linked are crap though.
Going back to only having 151 Pokemon would be the best way to rejuvenate it for me
No that is not a good idea because cool Pokemon like Quagsire would be left out. Step off GGG
In all seriousness I doubt there is much point in trying to rejuvinate Pokemon when their latest titles have only recently been released and are proving to br successful.
It's a sacrifice worth having though. Adding more isn't always progression!
That would be the best way to ensure Pokemon dies
Not if they just did it as a re-release to appeal to the nostalgic market =P
Alex get your Dragons Den on that's not a good business opportunity.
You'd be surprised. It wouldn't cost that much so profits would be pretty much guaranteed
It wouldn't lead to a new Gen but as a side release. If they went with it as a new Gen then yes, it would hurt it a lot.
They did that once with FR/LG. You couldn't get anything past 150 until post-game. Doing it again would be weird.
That wasn't a re-release though. Re-releasing it would keep it at 150, version exclusives like on the GameBoy and trading to get those. Post game would be catching Mewtwo. No Pokemon from any other region. All it'd need is different formatting to go onto a different system (or even re-release the GameBoy although then you'd need to charge higher and that wouldn't be that successful) and you're away.
Although FR/LG was an experiment that went well. Gen III was so great.
admit defeat by the time gen XI pushes about 3 cartridges and merge with digimon
a load of childhood nerds would cream it but it'd turn out to be a disappointment as you'd just get "pokemon and digimon at the summer/winter olympics" "pokemon and digimon all-stars racing" "pokemon and digimon buy a palm pre" instead of them doing anything worthwhile with the franchise at all like most dream team mergers ever in the history of vibbeogabes
also i think they shouldn't release a gen III remake purely so i can laff it up at nerds getting their hopes dashed constantly hhhahuwhuahuwh
like in the Pearl and Diamond 3d remake some fat dude called Hoenn would constantly call you Joey style about THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF POKEMON and then they'd get harpooned halfway through the game and no-one would care
Well, this is a place for everyone to shove their ideas out, so I can't complain :o
Thanks for all of your posts, I guess it all depends on each person. Maybe the games are fine as they are, but the anime definitely needs it. Not sure how much percentage of people still watch the anime, I swear, they need to start from scratch with the anime, or bring in a new main character who isn't Ash. I really liked that 4 episode Pokemon Origin anime they did, they should continue with that, or start a pokemon ranger anime and see how well that does on the side.
Not liking some new pokemon doesn't mean that the series is lacking creativity or is somehow becoming unpopular. Frankly I think it takes a more creative person to give an ice cream life as a pokemon and make it work rather than going for some cutesy fluffy fox thing for the umpteenth time.
If we're going to talk about ways to keep the series fresh then why not discuss ideas for new game mechanics, ways of playing, storylines, online play, things like that?
Anyway, there have always been "bad" pokemon. If something like Magneton or Grimer was revealed for Gen 7 then people would be wailing all over the internet about how terrible their designs are. I just hate this notion that the original 150 were untouchable and should be held as the standard to which all designs are measured against. There are some absolutely inspired designs in the Gen 6, as well as some piles of crap. That's just how it's always been.

Oh the anime. I love Ash's character development, he's so different to when he started out and didn't know anything about anything. It's cool how he still doesn't know anything. I've not bothered since like DPPt
Pokémon wise, I'd tend to agree with what everyone else is saying, that there were some good ones and some bad ones. I mean I love Hawlucha, he's excellent, but not convinced by some of the others.

Really? I haven't seen any of that series just yet, I haven't watched pokemon anime fully since Diamond and Pearl. Though I've caught episodes here and there from Best wishes. I mostly stick to the movies now, but I do enjoy watching episodes of some of my favorite pokemon, such as Haxorus and the legendaries. I wonder if Mewtwo will be in the series?

I think both mewtwo forms were seen in the next movie poster
That would be cool, though I thought the next movie was going to be about Xerneas and Yveltal? Don't know about Zygarde.
Terribly made gritty reboots are still all the rage. :]
Or extend the Pokemon Origins anime because that was pretty good.
Finally remake gen 3. :tongue2:
