Title: Does my external hard drive fear the TARDIS or something?
Post by: Petzbreeder on January 15, 2017, 11:48
I've lost all my Doctor Who episodes that I ripped and put on my external hard drive, all my Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures episodes are still there. This isn't the first time it has happened. It deleted all my Doctor Who episodes a couple of times before. Normally the episodes come back the next day, but today, it hasn't.

Is there anything I can do to put all my Doctor Who episodes on my external hard drive and not have it delete them by itself? I have to rip them all over again.

I tried, I didn't get any results. Someone mentioned on another forum that folders beginning with a certain letter would get deleted from their external hard drive from time to time, but gave no solution to their problem.

I tried to play a few Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood episodes from my external hard drive. Even though it could see them, it couldn't open them.

I've deleted everything on there now so I can start from scratch, but the properties window (the one with the file space pie chart) says the files are still on there. What the hell is going on with my external hard drive?

Is it safe to reformat it and start again?

right click the drive in windows, select properties, and tell us what it says under File System (if its NTFS then thats a bit confusing but if its FAT32 that might be your problem)

im thinking it might be that thing where if its FAT32 it refuses to show you files in a folder once they reach a certain amount

I just checked and it said NTFS. I did the error checking thing available in the tools tab in the properties (a member of a guild I'm in on an MMO suggested it) and it didn't find anything wrong.

I guess I should have mentioned this in the first post, but the external hard drive I use is this one (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-Canvio-Basics-Portable-External/dp/B00KWHJY7Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1484513610&sr=1-1).
