Title: What Is The "Unseen Force?"
Post by: The name master on March 26, 2017, 16:48
In Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, if you stay too long on a floor, you get blown away by an "unseen force" What do you think this is?

Younger me thought it was a legendary (Kyogre if I remember correctly, because I hadn't seen one at that point yet!)

i consider it to be something that's beyond the realms of a pokémon, personally - more like the dungeon itself.  i would consider it pretty much canon that the dungeons are conscious organisms in and of themselves, what with the perpetually changing layouts and the like.  it might be a protective mechanism for the pokémon who live in the dungeon, or just that mystery dungeons like their space.

Maybe it's the dungeon reforming, since they change each time you go back in and all pokemon get blown out as it reforms, then they all go back in.

Its a game mechanic to up the tension, disguised as something mysterious so the player can fill in the blanks themselves and the developers dont have to come up with an actual reason.

the hooded trainer beat me to the "its pokemon and their "NPCs block the way to the next city" lazy game mechanics" explanation (they could have at least had an invincible ghost chase u like in bubble bobble, thatd be funny cos it'd be scary)

so im gonna go with the comedy option that its one of the legendary pokemon w/ a bad case of wind doing a huge fart in the window and blowing u away

I guess they wanted it to be an Ominous Wind, in preparation for gen 4.

But yh probably just a lazy game mechanic, a really dumb one at that because the timer was so long it only really affected you if you were exp grinding / searching every floor thoroughly for a specific item in a really large floored dungeon.

If we're going for a comedy option, I suggest there's some jerk with a giant fan who calls them self "the unseen force" and threatening to turn it on.

Does the unseen force effect you in the place run by Makuhita?
