Question:
Which starter will you be choosing? (I've allowed up to 2 for if you're buying both games)
Option 1: Mudkip
votes: 13
Option 2: Treecko
votes: 23
Option 3: Torchic
votes: 7
Whether because it was your first or you've never played as one of them before, which starter are you most likely to choose (assuming it's still Hoenn starters)?
I think I'm going with Torchic in my Omega Ruby (my first starter ever and my first game) & Treecko in Alpha Sapphire (because I never use Treecko and it's statistically the best in RSE as I worked out with the strategy guide when I was 7 xD)
Treecko. I don't really like any of the Gen 3 starters but Treecko is just cute and I might not even evolve the little thing aww
I'll go Treecko too I think, and keep it as a grovyle, cos that thing just looks unbelievably cool.
I'll be using Treecko, it'll be the first starter I'm using in gen VI =)
i know i'm gonna have treeko and my bro will go for mudkip - we can easily get torchic off of xy as it is anyhoo
hburr durr my first thought on reading this topic was "oh have the new starters been released?" before remembering what games they were.
but uhhh yes i expect i'll go for treecko because i am boring and always go for the grass types.
that and for nostalgia.
i'm a sucker for nostalgia.
wonder if there'll be some other starter available as well, like there was in XY and the gen I ones? though probably not given the lack of mega evolutions, assuming that was the whole reason for putting them in XY. though technically there could be more, idk how that would pan out with connecting to XY if they're not in the game data (excepting lati@s of course...).
wait i got sidetracked. treecko i say, my answer is treecko.
OH GEE DECISIONS, DECISIONS.
Also, you all suck :<
(Also Dick, add a poll please, I'm curious)
Going to pick Torchic as it's my favourite of the starters, and who I used when I played Ruby.
Probably either Torchic or Treeco, depending on what my friends pick. Torchic because it's awesome, and Treeco because of the PMD: Explorers games.
Maybe I should go with Mudkip for nostalgia, since it was my first gen 3 starter...? Nah, I never really played through with a different starter, so I'll go with something different.
The grass starter looks like it might end up being a dragon/grass type, which is cool. So probably that. The chicken is clearly going to be fire/flying and ain't nobody got time for that. At least it isn't fire/fighting again I guess.
I am going to start with Mudkip in Alpha Sapphire. I already have about three Blaziken and two Torchic, one which has Speed Boost. So I won't need a Torchic. Treeko I can get from a Sceptile I got from SS. Hopefully Pokemon Bank and Transporter gets upgrades so we can use transferred Pokemon!

Added it now - I meant to add one before school but kinda forgot but I wanted to post the first topic in the board because gen III xD (The other one was moved I don't count it =P)
....and you're obviously choosing Chimchar.
Hmmmm well on Sapphire I picked Treecko but I kept it as a Grovyle, might do the same but it depends greatly on whether or not I actually use the starter.
Ah, the 3rd gen starters. When they were released, all of them proved thay they could be solid staples in-game, and so they are in 3rd gen competitive.
For me, I would like to say I could easily pick one, but I only know something for sure; Torchic is discarded. I already have a Speed Boost one (going well, ShinyBlazi ;3) and, honestly, I prefer having a Pokémon I do not usually use. Treecko is excellent, but needs HP (Ground, Ice or Fire) to shine, and Swampert does not get Avalanche as a level-up move (yet). Moreover, I can not RNG Abuse for them, so this discourages me from chosing Treecko as the only one answer. Although Swampert is my favoruite Water Starter, I did choose it in Sapphire.
The election is hard.
Gonna have to go with Torchic since he was my bro in my first Ruby playthrough many many moons ago...
Mukdip was my first choice on my first playthrough, but once I used Torchic, I knew I had found my bro. So Torchic it is.

As my friend unfortunately found out a few days ago, that might not be true any more. Treeko supposedly doesn't get a lot of special moves naturally, so he's not great after the physical-special split of gen 4. So I hear anyway.
Personally, I've played through these games with each starter at least once in my life. So I'm not sure what to go with this time. Maybe I'll go with mudkip again, since I think he's the one I first went with in Pokemon Ruby. Ahh, the nostalgia is bringing me waaaay back
Never was a big fan of the starters. Actually I could say the same for all starters Pre-Gen 5 :P but I will go with Mudkip cause it's the cutest

My friend and I were guessing about potential Mega Evolutions for those remaining two. I said that if Mega Sceptile doesn't get a massive attack increase then it's useless.
I hope mega Sceptile will gain a different ability like venusaur because unburden is meh. Also i think nintendo intended him to be physical with dem blades rather than special.
There will probably be another mega blazekin but i'm on the treeckotrain

....unburden on a mega? Just think that one through xD
(Just in case you actually didn't know the mechanics, a mega stone can't be lost and so a mega can never receive the boost from unburden)
Honestly, sceptile still get giga drain, so its not total deadweight. But it doesn't learn it naturally, which is the pain. You have to wait until you find a TM for it, instead of cleaning up in-game.
You can't go wrong with a giant bipedal lizard with bladed leaves growing from its forearms. That thing's just plain badass. And I like the moveset possibilities for it better than the other two.
Plus, Treecko was the first one I picked when I first got Sapphire back in '03, so yeah...following that trend.
Always Mudkip. Forever Mudkip. You don't need anything else! ^.^

I think he was saying he wants something different that isn't unburden cos he doesn't like it, in the same way that mega venusaur get thick fat instead of chlorophyll.

Yeah, I know, I was just saying how it's almost definite he will get a different ability because of Unburdens uselessness
Mudkip. Because Mudkip was my starter when I first played Pokémon Emerald, and I will choose Mudkip.
Also, the date of release of Pokémon Emerald and Pokémon AlphaSapphire and OmegaRuby are about 9 years apart. You noticed?
i will always pick treecko and none of you naysayers can stop me :>
I chose Torchic when I originally played RSE. Not sure who I'm gonna choose this time. I'm not feeling nubchicken anymore, haha. Maybe Treecko 'cause Grass types are pretty cool. Mudkip just has that double weakness to Grass by the time it becomes Swampert, and I feel like I'd get screwed over a million times that way. :c
idk really!
I think when I first got sapphire I picked Treecko so I'll probably go with that again for nostalgia on my first playthrough.
I'd go with either Mudkip. Some of Treecko's stats are lower than Torchic and Mudkip's, which really cancels him out of my selection. Torchic also hase base stats lower than Mudkip, which also cancels him out, with me left with Mudkip.
Note: The base stats are from the natures that don't affect base stats
Hm.... I can't seem to decide, tough call.
I'll most probably pick Treecko. He was my bro back in the Sapphire days and it's going to be nice to get to go through those memories again with him.
Plus his mega is either going to be super awesome or crap.
I still am planning on starting my first run through with Mudkip. It is the only Hoenn starter that I do not have. I know I can get one in HGSS but it takes forever to get it from Steven and THEN to transfer it twice. This way I can use it right away without a loooooooooooong wait!
Treecko for me. Mudkip doesn't really appeal to me, and Torchic's overrated these days.
Planning on getting Alpha Sapphire, and on there I'm gonna pick Mudkip. I haven't raised one for serious in a long time, plus I always pick the Water starter as it is, so... business as usual, I guess. =P
In the original i chose Torchic and lucked out and got a female so I was able to breed her.
But I chose Treecko because it's the only grass starter that isn't unattractive in it's final evolution.
Save for Meganium but I never took the Chikorita family seriously.
Torchic for 3 reasons:-
- It's the one I started with in Sapphire and trained to level 100.
- I don't currently own Blazikenite.
- I will have easy access to the other 2 via Pokémon Bank. I could IV breed them in advance and transfer at level 1.
I've no real fancy for any starters these days so I'll probably ditch it when something sexier comes along. I really dislike Treecko so it'd be out of Mudkip and Torchic. I'd probs go for Torchic because there are so many more water types to choose from later on. Also, like everyone else, I had a Torchic in the original so... idk.
Starter I picked on RSE: Mudkip
Starter I will pick on ΩR/αS: Mudkip
Also, Mega Swampert looks not only cool, but the stats are great, well except that Swampert can easily be defeated by a Sceptile.
It's been a pretty tough choice. I'm buying both games, so for Omega I'll go with Torchic, since it's the starter I always chose for Ruby. As for Alpha, I've decided that I'll get myself Treecko, since I never ever go for the Grass types (I tried it with X, but Chesnaught's grass/fighting type disappointed).
^For me it was Quilladin's face. It keeps making me think it's planning on stabbing me 48 times with a knife while I sleep....

I did the same with Delphox, design put me off completely. Though in that time I've had the chance to watch The Hobbit, so of course I regret my choice XD Goddammit GF
I'm going to choose Mudkip, as I have chosen Water-type starters ever since 1st Gen. That and all of my friends are going for Treecko, and I don't really want another Torchic.
Still going with Mudkip although I may start OR with Treeko. I have three or four Blaziken right now that another is just too much. Only one Blazikenite though so I might start OR with Torchic and then trade it to my Pokemon Y game as soon as I get the Mega Stone and simply erase and start a new game.
Treecko for me. I just love its Gen 3 sprite and cry. My Emerald rival threw out his Sceptile, I threw out a Swellow, and right away I felt like my Pokemon would lose. Sceptile is just so cool. I think the Fire starter was overused. I still love Swampert, though.
