Gold, Silver and Crystal Other Pages: Beta Information |

While Iceduck and I were discussing the beta screenshots of Pokémon Snap, he mentioned it would be cool if we had some beta shots of other games. Remembering way back in summer '99 when I started this internet lark, I saved some early shots of the legendary "Pokémon Gold and Silver". Anyway, to cut a long story short, after dreaming about using a skateboard (haha!), I forgot about them until now. The thing with these shots are, they might not be real, there's elements in each which indicates they could be real, and then there's stuff which screams, "you must be stupid to believe these!". Here is a table, the For is saying why it could be real, Against is reasons why it could be fake. Also, you may want to look at the intesting stuff bit.

Picture For Against Interesting Stuff
  • Features the GS hero.
  • Uses a GS style building on both accounts.
  • In GSC, trees will never go behind a building due to the tile based nature of the games.
  • It's in black and white.
  • The building on the right looks badly made.
  • The signpost is totally different to anything we've seen before.
  • The building's style is interesting
  • Features the GS Hero
  • GS style signpost
  • GS trees
  • GS CPU trainer?
  • GS Water(!)
  • GS building (except chimney)
  • Chimneys!
  • Black and White
  • That CPU trainer doesn't look like any type I've seen before.
  • GS trees
  • GS heros BACK
  • Head butt trees!
  • GS flowers
  • GS style building.. sorta
  • It says "café" above the building with double doors.
  • The pathway leading up is very wide for a Pokémon game.
  • If they are real, maybe the café was originally planned so you had to feed your Pokémon? As Iceduck says you can give them a haircut! Maybe they were considering a Digimon world style feed your Pokémon?
  • PokéBuilding
  • GS Hero
  • Clefairy Sprite
  • GS Fence
  • Black and White
  • That's one hell of a big building!
This is what the eggs originally looked like. Yay.
This is the original Pokémon Gold title screen!

On the third picture, I think it says "Gate", not "Café".

Same. I didn't even think someone would mistaken it for Café...

It says gate. I can even tell that from its regular size. Plus this picture is on bulbapedia. its the route above Goldenrod. I think it was route 35.

these shots are real as GS used the R/G game engine as a base. this is why the graphics look similar to red/blue. Also within the game's programming names have been found that suggest this. The names RED and GREEN were found in GSC programming. These names existed in the original Red and Green versions. also Missingno's Unusual type (Bird/not flying.) was found in the programming which suggests data carry over from R/G.
