Shadow Pokémon! What are they? Here goes.

Shadow Pokémon are normal Pokémon that have had their hearts closed. This means a number of things:

What is Hyper Mode? Here's the lowdown:

Their Shadow status is measured in blocks. When you first get them, they will have five blocks of Shadow. Your job is to clear each block, and each full block cleared grants you a new reward.

What happens when you undo the final lock? The following, that's what:

If this is enough to raise their level, their level will be raised, and this can give them the chance to learn new moves or even evolve. As always, press B to cancel evolution.

So. How do you clear these blocks? There are five ways:

  1. Walk around with them in your team.
  2. Battle using them.
  3. Call them out of Hyper Mode.
  4. Leave them in the Daycare Centre in Agate village.
  5. Massage them using cologne. You get the cologne case from a girl in Agate once you've cleared Mount Battle, and the Agate Poké Mart sells cologne - the more expensive it is, the more shadow is cleared. They're 600, 800 and 1200 in order of strength.

How effective these techniques are will vary depending on the Pokémon's personality, so once you've cleared two blocks, you may want to check the personality to see what technique will be most effective. Some personalities are fond of two different techniques. Here's a list:

  1. Walking: Adamant, Bold, Brave, Hardy, Impish, Lax, Lonely, Naive, Naughty and Sassy
  2. Battling: Adamant, Bold, Brave, Calm, Hardy, Hasty, Impish, Jolly, Naughty, Quarky and Sassy
  3. Calling: Doctle, Lonely, Serious and Timid
  4. Daycare: Bashful, Calm, Careful, Gentle, Mild, Modest, Quarky, Relaxed and Timid
  5. Bashful, Calm, Careful, Gentle, Hasty, Jolly, Lax, Lonely, Mild, Rash,
    Relaxed and Timid

Now, the final lock. After all your effort, this is the easy bit. Go to Agate Village - you need to have defeated Mount Battle and the Hitmontop trainer in Agate first. Approach the Celebi Shrine - it's to the left of and downhill from the Pokémon Centre, and is where you battled the Hitmontop trainer. If you have a Pokémon whose shadow bar has been cleared on your team, the shrine will glow green. If this is the case, press A to activate the shrine, and select the Pokémon you want to purify. Job done!

Finally, there are three flutes known as Time Flutes in the game. These will automatically summon Celebi to purify ANY Shadow Pokémon, even if their shadow bars haven't been cleared at all. It's worth saving the flutes for Pokémon that haven't been purified at all to get the most out of them.

Thanks to... erm.... I'll be honest. I've completely forgotten who sent me this, and can't find the name after checking e-mail and MSN logs. If YOU wrote this, please contact me immediately by clicking here.
