Me: 83.
You: 83?!?!? But it took me ages to purify the 40-something in Colosseum! I'll never get them all purified!
Me: Aha, you could always drastically speed things up by using the Purification Chamber!
You: That's all well and good, but I don't understand it!
Me: Allow me to explain then.
You: So by the time you've finished explaining I'll know exactly how to use it?
Me: You will.
You: But that means I can purify 82. What about the unpurifiable Lugia?
Me: It's possible to purify it.
You: So when Cipher claimed it was unpurifiable they were lying?
Me: Yes.
You: Just like a tabloid newspaper?
Me: Yes.
You: Will your explanation include pretty pictures?
Me: Of course.
You: Let's go then.
The Purification Chamber is actually located in the Pokémon HQ Lab, and during the Story Mode you'll find out about it's building and eventual completion. It's basically a super quick way to purify up to nine Shadow Pokémon at once, and the Pokémon never even have to enter your party.
The game talks about tempo and sets, but this may seem like gobbledegook to you, so we'll start from scratch. To purify a Shadow Pokémon, it must be surrounded by Normal Pokémon. Sounds straight forward doesn't it? That's because it is. Simply place up to four Normal Pokémon on the outside of a ring and a Shadow Pokémon in the middle, and it will slowly start to purify (it's not a two second job, it does take a while).
However, that's not the most efficient way to do it.
The most efficient way, as demonstrated by the diagram on the right, is to have type advantages going clockwise between the Normal Pokémon. In the example, we have Phanpy (Ground), Numel (Fire), Shroomish (Grass) and Carvanha (Water/Dark). Now, Ground is Super Effective against Fire, Fire is Super Effective against Grass, Grass is Super Effective against Water, and Water is Super Effective against Ground. The more type advantages you can get going around the circle, the higher the Tempo of the Chamber. The given example would provide a Maximum Tempo, which is illustrated by a large blueish bar on the screen.
Then all you have to do is plop a Shadow Pokémon in the middle and it'll slowly purify. The higher the Tempo, the quicker the purification.
The process is also quicker if you have a high Flow.
Flow is basically determined by the direction the Shadow Pokémon is facing (you can rotate it to face any Normal Pokémon). If the Shadow Pokémon is Super Effective against the Normal Pokémon it is facing, you'll have Maximum Flow. Simple as that. In my example, if I was purifying the Shadow Electabuzz, I'd have it facing the Carvanha, since Electric is Super Effective against Water.
And that's all there is to know. Quite simple isn't it?
Now, to purify the "unpurifiable" Shadow Lugia, you need to achieve a maximum Tempo in all nine of the Purification Chamber sets. Once this has been achieved, just place the Shadow Lugia in the middle of any of the Circles, and it will be purified instantly. It really is as easy as that.
After that you'll be left with the perfectly Normal, powerful beast known as Lugia (it knows Hydro Pump, Earthquake, Psycho Boost and Featherdance in case you were wondering).
And no silly Tickets in sight.
