In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, two new Pokémon and their evolutions were introduced, with the only proper way of getting them in-game was by using the familiar old method of fossil reviving.
This is my guide, so get your Explorer Kit out, and follow my instructions!
Pokémon Diamond
In Pokémon Diamond, you only can get the Skull Fossil in-game, and it is found by digging in the Underground.
Go digging, and chip into the walls until you find one of these fossils, and then take it to the Oreburgh Mining Museum.
Note, finding these fossils are down to pot luck, and there are no designtaed areas to find them.
Well, now it is revived, you will have a new Level 20 Cranidos in your party. Here is a lovely table explaining it and its evolution, Rampardos.
Well, that was Cranidos and Rampardos explained. Now onto the Pokémon Pearl in-game fossils.
Pokémon Pearl
In Pokémon Pearl, you can only receive the Armour Fossil in-game, and like Diamond, it can only be found underground.
Once revived, you will have a Level 20 Shieldon in your party. Here's a table to describe Shieldon and it's evolution, Bastiodon.

ive been digging in the underground in diamond for ages and still haven't found a skull fossil
^ well keep looking then. =P
I found a ton of Armour Fossils, and now I have, like seven Shieldons.
not possible to find underground all the time
Odd that they make no mention that after you get the national dex, you can find all fossils except for Skull in Pearl, and Armor in Diamond. What's even more weird is that in my Diamond version, I have dug up all previous gen fossils multiple times except for Lileep. I just can't find the Root fossil, but have 7 Anoriths =/

sheildion is a realy good pokemon its got a massive defence
i traded for a sheidon with my friend with pearl. i hav like, a million of all of them exept the one shieldon.

can'y you get a shield fossil from action replay even on diamond. I still didn't like my sheildon very much...
i have another fossil called a root fossil, containing a lileep, very hard to find i was underground for lyk an hour
Ive found loads of fossils underground, so much so, that if I wanted to, I could have about 12 Shieldons on Pearl.
i've got pearl version and all the fossils i have had is amber stone (or something like that)root fossil dome fossil and armor fossil. Is there any more for me to get?

I found OVER 9000 skull fossils. Go rampardos!
ive got a couple recently :)
All I saw was a root fossil and it happend to be Lileep.
i tend to get atleast 2 skull fossils per 15 mins weird
