Hidden Grottos are little gaps hidden within certain trees around Unova. You enter them by interacting with the gap in the trees and Bianca will first introduce you to one on Route 5 (Unova).

One of three things can happen when you enter a Hidden Grotto. Firstly you may meet a wild Pokémon. These Pokémon are special in that they come with their Hidden Ability. Secondly you may find a random item. Lastly there may be a hidden item invisible on the floor.

Okay time for some maths. Get your calculators out. For every 256 steps you take in the game, there is a 5% chance that each Hidden Grotto will become "active". When active there is a 20% chance you will find a Pokémon in there, a 40% chance you will find an item and a 40% chance of there being a hidden item.
