Both great Unis. York seems like a lovely place to live (been there twice actually for PKMN.net stuff haha) and Birmingham's near me (well near where I grew up and am until next week or so).

Birmingham has the NEC close too, for if there's any exhibitions you happen to want to go to. Probably not, but the options there xD

And every exhibition seems to be there, in fact I think even VGC is usually held there.

Yeah, both are nice places just for different things. Yorks quite historic, i think, although I've been to Birmingham more despite York being like 30 minutes away and Birmingham being almost 3 hours xD
