Well, when you're using an iPod Touch or iPhone, or any other music player that blows up the album art to a considerable size on the screen, the difference in quality is pretty glaring,
I'm using a Nano, and the screen resolution on that thing is supposed to be pretty high, and since I've downloaded images for it that are something like 500x500, the compression isn't noticeable at all. Neither is it when I have to blow up some pictures to use as my Mac's wallpaper. But like I said, super duper hi-res textures don't bother me as much as they bother other people.
