I've not seen anyone that dislikes Popplio so far, just people who prefer the other two. This seems to be one of the few generations where ALL the starters are good! But some are still slightly better ;>

Besides Gyarados, it was Machop in Crystal. I was really disappointed at the colour.. it was too similar to the normal Machop (at least in that game) ov0

Only games I've ever seen shiny Pokemon in are Crystal and Sapphire.

I don't remember ever actually running into the Latis in all the times I played Sapphire... does the wild encounter music change like it does with Crystal and D/P/Pt? If so, you can just close your eyes and wait for that XD

With the exception of gen 4, I always went with fire. I still adore Litten but I think I might choose Rowlet becuase bird XD
