yeas, although its a bad move on shanahans part. RGIII is your franchise player, and benching him doesnt help much. its only his second year, he needs to continue developing.

if shanahan is fired and they bring in baylors head coach as the hc in washington, i wouldnt be suprised...

SirBlaziken

Honestly, I would. Baylor's coach is having such success there. Why leave? Bryce Petty is doing well. Plus, Baylor is top 10.

theres always money to consider though... he would likely get paid a lot more in the pros than in college. griffin excelled at baylor with him, so why not do the same thing? and even if he doesnt work out in washington, he could probably go back to college and do fine. he could even lure in recruits with the 'i have pro credentials' card

Lord Raven

Shanahan's mentality for benching RG3 was really really clear if you sifted through the crap on the internet.  Basically, his entire reasoning was that RG3 didn't have a full offseason and the season is now lost, so they'd rather not injure RG3 again and prevent him from sitting out yet another offseason, and they'd rather get Kirk Cousins the experience and perhaps see if other teams can be interested in him, therefore boosting his career.  They're putting Grossman as backup so RG3 can keep healthy, and then they plan on using him in the offseason as starter and hopefully he'll be the same RG3 that took the league by storm last year.  That was his reasoning.  They didn't feel he could get anything more out of the rest of the season considering how often he was getting hit, and they didn't want to risk him losing another offseason, being as young as he is.  It's because RG3's the franchise player that he's being benched.  They're not tanking either, so much as giving Kirk Cousins a chance to start.

I'll link the video upon request, but these words did come straight out of Shanahan's mouth.

They wouldn't bench RG3 without the future in mind.  Bear in mind, they don't have a first round pick this year and I believe next year as well, and they lost a second round pick last year for RG3.  They have no reason to tank because their first round draft pick goes to the Rams, who they will inevitably face next year if both teams finish last in their division (which is looking likely).

^That's what I thought, about Cousins getting experience. Plus, Shanahan is smart for doing this, as you said Raven.

Didn't think of that one either. Well, how would you say your season is going in Baltimore?

I'd say it's going better than the people who said we'd be cellar dwellers predicted, considering we haven't had an offense this season and our defense chokes

RG3 was also given "special privileges" from snyder (dunno what they consist of) so he could be more free and whatnot, and shanahan was showing him "hey you, you dont get whatever you want all the time"

We have a goodish run defense, we get burned deep and give up shorter passes in the secondary. Also our offense isn't bad. But 4-9 is not good in Cleveland.

I have no idea how much of that is media hype, how much of that is Shanahan leakage.  Basically, I don't trust anything Washington media has to say about this, none of these stupid second hand anonymous sources.  I'm going by what's going on now, what their future is like, the fact that they had a huge cap penalty and couldn't get a defense, not having a first round pick this year or next year, and what Shanahan is saying straight from his own mouth.

I don't think Shanahan wanted RG3 either and he heavily preferred a pocket passer, but that leak doesn't completely make sense to me because he had John Elway as a QB when those Broncos teams won 2 Super Bowls...  and Elway wasn't exactly a pure pocket passer either.

^That is true as well. Oh (insert name of prefered deity) Raven, I'm turning into your yes man.

I don't exactly trust Washington myself.

Well, speaking of Elway, Denver has their playoffs spot locked.
