Pokeradar chains, help please?

Okay, I am having the worst time ever trying to figure out how to do this whole pokeradar chaining thing. I looked up information on how to go about chaining pokemon with the radar. And here's what I understand so far.

What to do
1) Find 9x9 patch of grass or flowers
2) Stand in middle of patch and use radar
3) Go to shaking spots only 4 feet away from you
4) Differentiate grass shaking (Impossible to do! )
5) Only go to grass that shook the same as first encounter(Also impossible to do )

What not to do
1) Do not go to shaking grass on edges of patch
2) Do not go to barely shaking grass
3) No skates or bike!
4) Do not have encounter with any other pokemon (Are you kidding me? )
5) Do not go to shaking grass right in front or behind you
6) Do not go too far away from area

Okay, that's all of the tips I could remember from the sources I have read from. I am having so much trouble trying to chain. I'm trying my best to follow the tips/rules of chaining, really I am. But I am finding it absolutely difficult to not run into other pokemon outside of the radar, especially when I'm trying to leave grass or walk towards the 4th patch of shaking grass.
Also, that whole rule/tip about differentiating the way your first encounter's grass shook is ridiculous. How do you figure that out? I can tell the fake shaking grass cause it barely shakes, but the others look completely the same to me. Not to mention they don't shake long enough for me to look at all of them carefully to figure out the difference between the way it shakes.
I find that every time, I encounter my first pokemon and then try to do it again to make the chain work. I always end up randomly encountering a pokemon or going to the wrong patch of grass.

I must be missing some kind of trick here, because I'm kind of getting frustrated a little. I really want to try this whole chaining thing, Shiny blue flower Flabebe is all I want please. If you guys could help me figure out exactly what I'm doing wrong or if the tips I found were incorrect, that would be great.

To solve the problem with encountering Pokemon outside the radar, now might be the good time to bust out the Repels.  The PokeRadar Pokemon will still be found, but the others won't.

As for the rest, I don't know much.  I haven't used the PokeRadar in Gen VI yet (I really should try it out).  I used it back in Gen IV though, so that's why I know about the Repels.

theres 3 ways a grass can shake... 4? maybe? a few ways at least. you just need to look Carefully at the shaking patches
usually ones right next to you shake only a tiny bit, and should be avoided completely
you want to be going for shaking patches that move kind of vigorously, and patches that give off glitter (shiny patches)
usually the fast shaking ones are 4 squares away from where you currently stand, and are easy to spot

and yeah dude stock up on repels, dont get stingy here, theyre necessary if you want to keep a chain going77

also, if you find a legendary bird in the grass, it wont break your chain, so dont worry about that part. itll just run away and you can continue

Thank you to both of you, I didn't know you could use repels at all. I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to encounter any pokemon with it used. Though I do have another question, will it break my chain if I go into a patch of shaking grass and encounter a pokemon different from my first encounter?

Yeah, that breaks the chain you're on.  But I forget if it starts a new chain or you have to start over completely.

nah you need to start over completely

like i said you wanna be going into the shaking patch at least 4 patches away thats like... guaranteed to continue your chain
you can go less than that but its risky i think
