They kinda did, didn't they? Lockette actually had a good chance to catch it, but Malcom Butler just made a play on the ball.

If Wilson throws it sooner then the Patriots would be trying to make a comeback.  He released it a little too late and Lockette didn't go for it strong enough.  He pulled a Lee Evans and assumed he caught it before he kept it in control.
