I have to make a presentation on Marxist literary theory for tomorrow. Yikes.

OMG MARXISM! It's really awesome at the moment  Is it a really big presentation?  The way Marxists think is always really interesting.


The fair is up so the town is packed with stalls and slow moving pensioners it makes hitting the town in dinner really difficult since you've got to play real life Frogger.

Thankfully my dinner buddy doesn't like hitting the town so I'm guessing we'll hit the library. I managed to get her a little gift to say thank you to everything she's done... it's only a bar of chocolate but ehhhh the thought counts.

I'm going to have a normal night tonight and play Sims or watch tv, or both, and hopefully get some sleep

Damn, got a really good idea for photography too but I can't find the words to link everything together. I want to tag it as forbidden/forgotten memories. Yeah, I can't get a model for my original idea

Nah, it's only a little one because we've only just begun looking at it. We were all put in groups and given an extract (ours was from The Colour Purple by Alice Walker) to look at in terms of Marxist ideas and give it a bit of a break down and then just talk about it to the class. We do have to go quite in depth further on when we start to properly study 1984.

 Oooooh it actually sounds really really interesting! Would love to study their writing, really want to read one of Ann Oakley's books (guessing she has more than one) since feminist writing is usually really interesting too .-.

Yeah this bit of the course is that we study literary theories (Marxist, Feminist and Figurative Speech) and then we apply them to different texts because obvs Marxism is about how no mind is free and that our whole lives are dictated by the society we grow in and then basically we just have to look at a book or an extract and say how that particular theory can be applied to the book/the way it is written. For example in The Colour Purple the fact the P.O.V is of a black woman in (I think early 20th century, just when they were oppressed) it shows that the writer is rejecting that society by writing from the POV of a person who is considered abnormal or untraditional. It's a bit complicated but deffo interesting.
