trigonometry and standard form

like, that's it.  that's what's confusing me.

please send maths teachers in large quantities.

Is this sohcahtoa trig or as in sine and cosine rules?

And which bit of standard form, like Ordinary to Standard, Standard to Ordinary, calculations or just all of it?

whenever youre in maths and you hear "standard form" a little piece of you dies
no matter what math class it is
its just terrible
i hate maths
and standard form

lets all go out for some frosty chocolate milkshakes

as a dyslexic (i hate doing the "As a ___, I...." thing but here i am) i have to say that khanacademy has helped my maths skills far more than the overworked and underpaid comprehensive school teachers were able to Back In The Day

i mean dont get me wrong trigonometry is still the most idiotic thing ever though

The Shrub Dragon

yeah it's trig as in sine and cosine and tangent and ARGH i was so close to getting it the other day and then we took a break and it threw me completely off
all of standard form.  i might be able to get it good and proper after a good run on mymaths though so i'll try that first (haha guess who'll probably be moved down a set after monday)

i've looked up khan academy though so maybe all hope is not lost

thanks gl <3

Awkward Squirtle

I actually like standard form. I do physics, so once you get it it just makes everything easier there.

SaRo|Rapidash

Standard Forms not too bad, once you've got it.

Easiest way to do Normal to SF is like this:

1) Round the number to 1 significant figure (3420000 -> 3000000)
2) Write it as 'First number x 10^number of zeros' (3000000 -> 3x10^6)
3) Unround it, so that you include the xecimals you rounded out (3x10^6 -> 3.42x10^6)

Then for the other way:

1) Round the number to 1 Significant figure (3.42x10^6 -> 3x10^6)
2) Add the amount of zeros equal to ghe power (3x10^6 -> 3000000)
3) Unround it, as before (3000000 -> 3420000)

Its a pretty foolproof way of doing it, I find, although I don't think I explained it very well >_>

Kerou 犠牲

I was always taught to work to two decimal places / three significant figures and when you're working to that answer your workings should be two more (so four decimal places / five signifant figures) so you get as close to the answer without being overly specific

If you answer more specifically you state it too so

Answer = 3.452 (3 dp) [random example]

I kinda miss Maths

Also realised my post isn't that relevant. Woops.

SaRo|Rapidash

Not sure my boyfriend would take that well, but what the hell xD

Just pointing out i was sniped, I'm not aiming this at GL =P

You'll probably be dissapointed to hear I don't have a three step explanatikn to all of maths xD

That's something that confused me- Why did I learn trigonometry in school if I don't need it?
