Joeno cannot be replaced. Both as a coder who knows the plans and intricate details of the site, and as our friend. We are not actively looking for a replacement, and if we were, this is not the place to discuss it anyway.

Ledyba

I've put off posting in it because to be honest I've been shocked.  This was totally out the blue and during a time I thought tensions were easing and things were laxing.  Maybe I don't know the full story,  you know what's best for you and if that includes giving up your postion, well all the power to you.  I hope whatever path you take now treats you well and as others have expressed I'm thankful for your work as its gone a long way to establishing pkmn.net.

also, just one note:

QuoteBut I don't think for a second that this is 'the beginning of the end.'

Bingo.

whilst Jeroen was a substantial part of the PKMN.NET machine, he was not the sole worker on the site as a whole.  Look around you, the site isn't excessively labled 'by Jeroen te Strake' on the content, news, whatever.

We have a team of admins that's fine with or without Jeroen involvement.  Honestly, as you guys are hypering up Jeroen's departure as the end, you're forgetten those who are still here and who do still make a difference.  Mike, Alex, Phil, Kay? They're fine people and they have my up most faith the site will be stable and improve.

Mushroom

Ok, I think I better clarify my "beginning of the end"

New content in the same layout, easy to do. Upgrades, no. Mike has always been the content guy, Jeroen the coding. We can't improve the site any more, we don't have the coding knowledge now, and even if we do, Jeroen is the one who knows his way around how he has coded most of it. Sure, James may know the basics, but it's obviously changed since he passed co-ownership onto Jeroen, and he's far too busy with his job and podcast.

Most of our members don't even care that this is happening, I reckon. So, we've got our group of dedicated members to choose from. We need someone to learn a few types of code, and, oh yeah, have ACCESS to the servers. This is at a time when it has been stated that no replacement is being searched for. So, we're down to the current staff members to keep the site running. Unless one of us learns soon, the site is gonna go down until someone knows how to fix it, and in the meantime, our casual members lose interest, thinking the site is dead.

Yes, I know I'm exaggerating, but that's only what happens if the site crashes soon. We still don't have the people with the know-how and the TIME to upgrade the site.

Sure, it's possible that everything will be fine. But this is a massive blow.

MonsterMon64

Anybody mind if I break the ice? Because I finally figured out how to word what I wanted to say here:

I can easily say that I'm going to miss you, Joeno, but I can't express the gratitude I have for you keeping the site in line for as long as you did. Not just you, but all the staff, past, present, and before my time on here who still do. I might not be a standout member myself, but I've felt for a while that I owe PKMN.net so much and would like to repay it some day.

Anyway, you're a strong person, Jeroen, and I'm sure you'll make it through wherever life takes you next. ;)

Neon Nocturnal

This was a huge shock to me, although I know things have been hard, I didn't ever expect Jeroen to leave his position. I totally respect his decision to leave the site and I hope/ believe that things will work out for him.

Jeroen, although I haven't spoken to you much, I am greatly appreciative (and I'm sure many other members are too) of the work you have done for the site, I wish you good luck for the future and don't forget to pop in now and then!

You don't have much faith in the members do you? Most will not know this happening because they don't check this part of the site.

But I don't want to come across as being nasty or whatever, and to be honest I don't care what anyone thinks of this post but it's my opinion, but reading over what Joeno has said it seems like you don't care much for this site or want it to progress any because you know no one can do the coding for it as well as you can (I don't know if any of the staff can, I'm just going on what I've read here), and you aren't willing to show anyone how to do it or give them notes or something.

But meh it's your decision and I repsect that, I wouldn't expect you stick around if you don't enjoy it and all you get is grief off people.

But dunno if you care what I think but I've been on this for just under a year and think you have done a good job with the site (for the time I was here anyways lol)

Shaymin

okay i'm going to be serious.

It's a real shame to see you go Joeno. You've put a lot into this site to make her what she is today, and I applaud you for that. You've done this job despite all the arguments and horrible things people have been saying, but, health and personal life does come first. You've done this site good in your past... however long, and you were such a great admin despite what everyone says.

and that's coming from the heart.

Liam

Damn. I was definitely not expecting this to happen. :s

It's sad to see you go, because I feel I was starting to become a bit more friendly with you. Oh Well. :(

I appreciate all that you have done, and may the future be bright for you.

#Emma---#

It's a shame to see you step down Jeroen. I am very appreciative of what you have done for the site. Thank you (to you and all other staff)) for making my time here fun =]

I didn't think you were going to step down. I probably don't know the full story though, and I do respect your decision.

Good luck and all the best with everything else. I hope things improve for you.

The Shrub Dragon

This, well I didn't expect this to say the least.

Thank you for all you've done, I hope that you have a happy time, out and in pkmn.

Exactly. A major part of our member base come here primarily for the Name Rater. I don't have that much faith in finding a new Joeno, as I wouldn't expect them to have faith in me if I were in their position.

OpalRhea

..I'm sorry that this has happened. Despite what some people might say, Joeno did a lot for this site, and he made it a much better place for some of us to grow and develop as people.
Perhaps the events that have lead to this resignation were uncontrollable, but quite frankly, if anyone had paid enough attention to realise what was happening, and they were involved, why didn't they try to help the admins and moderators?
It's our own fault Joeno has quit his long held position. I know many of you didn't necessarily like his methods, but this site wouldn't be the site I at least have grown to love, without every scrap of his hard work.

Good luck in life Joeno, and I hope truely that your love for this site, which you raised (alongside the owner. forgive me. i can't recall who it is) does not diminish, despite all the rockswe're going through.

Some, yes, but the April fools agument was controllable, if we'd been grateful for what the admins had done for us, then we would all be happy, I believed it along with others.

thanks gl <3

Lord Raven

to be saying that you'd be missing the context, and it's the thread that jeroen posted right after that really didn't make me feel obliged to apologize.  but this is not the time for that.

Sure, eventually some of the staff will have been able to learn the coding required to move the site forward, however with the time it would take to do so, we'd still have all the upgrading left to do and iron out any bugs.  I live in hope that Jeroen might one day be able to be convinced to come back and help, but this isn't the time to wonder when he still is resting away from the site's tasks.

But this of course pales before the fact that one of my friends, one of the people from this site who helped me become the man I am today, felt he had to take this step.  That's, like Mike said, not the type of person we could ever replace, nor ever hope to.
