so weve been getting kicked out and the landlords asking us to pay him money for the carpets we "ruined"

the carpets were made of felt and also infested with carpet beetle. at most they cost about £30 but hes like ILL NEED £150

if anything he should be paying us for the awful state the house was in when we got it?? barely any doors open when you close them completely and if they do open they barely close

Sylar, I believe he has no right to hold your personal property at liberty, and therefore you can class this as psychological violence, which is class 5 assault. Whilst rarely enforced, this is still a punishable offence, and can lead to a very large fine (around £5000, iirc). Whilst you likely don't want to take action, it's a great threat to make on him, as he's unlikely to risk £5k over £150.
