So I've noticed some characters in game asking for tips. Be it a song they sing, advice they give, or the meal they serve, some people will ask if you'd like to tip. Being the generous man I am (Amulet Coin helps too), I generally tip ₷1,000.
I've also heard rumors that tipping increases the chances of finding Shiny Pokémon somehow. Of course, these are just rumors. Correlation does not imply causation. I have found (and captured) 3 Shinies though, so there's that. I'd like to gather some data on this:

In addition to voting, I'd appreciate if you provided:
-Hours in game
-Number of wild Shinies encountered (whether or not you captured them, don't worry about 100% exact numbers.)
-Locations of Shiny(ies) encountered (if you don't remember, don't worry)
-How much you generally tip
-Average level of "Affection" for your party Pokémon (an estimate is fine: 1, 2, 3, etc.)
-Skin color of Trainer
-O-Powers in effect during encounter w/ Shiny (if you remember, if not then note.)
-Version (thanks RubyRobin)

(NOTE: Do not count Shinies received in trade, hatched from eggs using Matsuda Method, caught via chaining/chain fishing, or found by soft-reseting. I consider those essentially "take a 20": you're repeating a process until you get the result rather than allowing for probability to take control.)

Keep in mind I've tossed a few "random" variables into the request. Also keep in mind I only want data on your playthrough of Pokémon X and/or Y. If you're playing through both, seperate the data accordingly. If you have any ideas for variables that may have something to do with Shiny Encounter rates, go ahead and list them. I also know that such a small sample size is meaningless and way more samples would be needed before any real progress is made. However, a small sample may make studying the subject further more promising.

Thanks for the help.

Okay, I've encountered 1 shiny, a graveller on victory road.

I usually tip £1000, unless I'm tapping A fast and skip it.

No O-Powers in effect that I recall, and my character is the lightest skin colour.

My pokemons affection I'm not sure on - if it's to do with Amie then probably 0

Oh, and just in case - I'm playing X

Edit: didn't see this, but 190 hours playtime

Umm, I don't think tipping has an effect on shinies to be honest. Until there's proof, I doubt it helps. The main reason there are so many shinies going around is more to do with the Friend Safari, which is speculated to have increased odds.

No O-Powers

Middle Skin Tone (I think)

Approx 56 hrs play time.

Average level of affection 3.5 hearts (so I recall.)

A useful variable should be how often you encounter Pokemon daily (rather than how many Pokemon you've encountered total), but that may take a while to figure out...

Hours in game: 80
0 Shinies.

Captain Jigglypuff

In my X version, I got a Durant that came out of a shaking bush on Route 18. Then in Frost Cavern, I got a Vanillite in a horde. Both times I had my Delphox which was very affectionate towards me and I am a medium toned character. Over 50 hours game time and I usually tip 1000.

Well usually it makes the cow very upset.

In all seriousness though, I never would have expected such small game mechanics could affect shiny rate. Once I get X/Y I'll probably have to try this out for myself.

Luminoose

So far, I've done 86 hours in-game
I've caught 1 shiny (A Sigilyph) on Route 10
I always tip £1000 minimum.
The average level of affection is 2.5 hearts
My skin colour is the lightest
I had no O powers in effect when I found my shiny
And finally, I am playing version X.

Hope I help! :)

could it be tipping increases style then?

SaRo|Rapidash

Possibly, it sounds fairly likely.

Oh, another thing - when I beat the 1 Star restaurant perfectly it offered me an opportunity to tip £10,000. The fact you have to score perfect to get this suggests that it's a good thing, but I fail to see how wasting money would be a good thing... I chose to tip so I'll see what happens =/

the bread dragon

12 hours ingame (i know its not too long, i just started over the other day :P)
no shinies, unfortunately
normally 1000, sometimes 500 if im low on funds
2 hearts
im whiter than white
no o-powers in effect
i have X

Spriter

Yeah, I assume tipping increases style, NOT shiny rate. Shinies are more luck-based, remember...and of course, Friend Safari odds are higher than normal. Testing this in the FS is not a good method at all, it'd be best to try it in a route instead.

(And seriously, skin colour? Why? That shouldn't have any effect whatsoever...and if it turned out that white skin colour gave you more shinies - which probably isn't true - then...?)
