Pokemon is neither dead nor alive. It's a lucrative zombie.

Actually, it's a cowboy, on the steel hose it rides. It's also wanted dead or alive.

I think that the BW games revived interest in Pokemon with older players who left the game for a few years and got back into it. The Unova games really sparked new life into the series not seen since Gen 3 when Abilities and Double Battles were introduced. Gen 4 was basically the same as the previous Gen except with Wi-Fi features and touch screen activities. HGSS also sparked some new interest but once Black and White came out, everything was changed. No older Pokemon until AFTER the Elite Four, version exclusive areas and Gym Leaders, and a much darker and more evil team leader that had never been done before in the games or anime. You dealt with brainwashing, kidnapping (to an extent), actually attacking an innocent Pokemon out of pure spite without using another Pokemon (only one of TWO instances ever to do this, Jessie attacking Seviper is the other), and depections of abuse made the 5th gen the darkest in terms of the story. And then BW2 introduced a new feature where you could make the game easier or harder was also very nice. So I'd say Pokemon will most likely carry on for many more years and even though players may come and go, there will always be enough interest in the series for Game Freak to make more regions and Pokemon.

Most people I spoke to said they skipped B/W and Gen V in general. Gen VI seems to be the game that has gotten all the nostalgic types out of the closet for another go. B/W brought something new to Pokemon but I'm not sure it was what Pokemon needed as we never really saw it again.
