to make the colours stand out a little more. against the grey of the forum background it looks quite nice... in my opinion, anyway. 
basically just to emphasise the overbearing brightness of the colours, haha. the same reason for replacing the grey with black.

It would be wise to give people Credit for their work when using it. Even though you referred to mark in your personal message, it isn't clear that you are giving him credit for your Avvy.

nah, i'm not so fussed about having credit given tbh, unless it's pixel art i've made from scratch. this is all based on the nintendo sprites though, so it would feel weird personally to insist on credit haha.
 
but yeah, this is from the OP in the thread:

if you like the stuff ive made then feel free to use them in your profile, even if you didnt request them. you dont have to give credit unless you really want to. 
just dont claim them as your own in contests or anything haha. 

i'll do the requests later, i'm on my phone right now. just thought that i should clarify that though, because of reasons.

you can do simple revamps just as recolours of older generations' sprites. 
i tend to trace the outline in a bright colour, then delete the rest of the sprite (keeping a copy on the screen for reference). then i fill it in with flat colours and add my own shading, using the BW sprites as reference and using those colours. and then colour the outlines, which is the most annoying part |:

i... wasnt sure about this, the colour scheme of the character that google showed me had more yellow than orange but... yeah.

yeees but platinum (and diamond/pearl) sprites are very similar to the Black/White ones in terms of size and style.

picked the silver one.
i like how the GSC sprites have some kind of third eye thing going on for ghastly or whatever its meant to be. probably not a highlight, as in its crystal animation it glows (ooh). 
ah well, whatever it was, it was never seen again. so i didnt keep it in the revamp.
