He picks his grades up with other kinds of graded assignments. Other than that he must've hired someone to plant bombs in the school and threaten to blow it up if he didn't get a passing score. Or maybe he bribes his teachers. Or maybe he warns them of my wrath. Probably the last one.

By getting good grades in end of year tests. In the UK, you can't 'fail a class' (I assume you're American). Basically, the grades go from A* (best) to G (worst) and then U (ungraded). I'm a year off my final exams, and at at least a B in every subject, so I think I'll be alright
