So we started our season at Snooker. Only in division 6 out of.. 7? Haha, yes. The fixtures aren't too kind to us, giving us our hardest 5 teams first then the easiest 5 last in the first half of the season, and the same in the reverse half of the season. Started out brilliantly, 4 wins out of 5 and looked like mounting a challenge for the division; we've never won it before.

Then we collapsed, and went 4 games without picking more than 5pts up per match. Looked to be in a relegation scrap, to the bottom division which would have been embarrassing. Nevermind, team spirit is good and all, we'll be fine. Won the last match of the first half of the season to leave us average in midtable, W5 L5, think we'd claimed about 70pts;

Snooker league works in that each team plays 6 tables in a.. match. Win a table you get 2pts, draw 1pt, and for every 30pts you win by in the game you get an extra bonus point. Whichever team has the highest aggregate of points from the match (not won, as in scored the most) gets an additional 2pts. So if we all won our match by 15pts, 6 lots of 2pts for winning the tables is 12pts, another 2pts is 14pts. Get the idea?

So, we got us all in and had a practise match in the midpoint break of the season. A solid team of 8 players, 2 flair players, 2 grafters, 2 big handicappers, one cheerleader and a Scottish nuisance. ;o Got us all fired up, ready to take the division on.

Second half of the season, blitzed it. Due to there being an odd number of teams, we had a bye the week before the break and next week, which was meant to be our final match. As a result, last night was our last, but we needed to win convincingly to leave the other teams with a massive total to catch up on. Hadn't failed to take 8pts from each match since the break, which equates to winning 4 tables in each match, and I think we'd lost just one match overall.

At the top, stood us, second had their bye week last night and as a result, we needed to win convincingly to finish the season off. Started out 12pts in front, which as you can see is easily obtainable if you happen to be good. And they are good, unfortunately. So we needed a huge win. We got there, and up stood my captain, "Rob, you're on last."

You mean, it may depend on me? And it came down to a.. well. We needed the aggregate. We needed a final win. We stood at.. 8-5 and a win pretty much guaranteed. The title was.. surely out of their reach? Surely? Or was it? They needed me to win, and convincingly. So I stood up, took my first shot, and went in off. Terrible start. It looked tense, the atmosphere could be cut with a knife.

He took a couple of shots, took a couple of points, and it stood that I was losing by 12pts. I looked up and down the table, I saw my shot, a hail Mary shot, and sunk it home. Went on a break of 31pts, stood 19pts ahead of him, and he never got it back. Won by 57pts in the end after possibly the most one sided match I've ever played, the team singing Championes, knowing a final tally of 196pts (from 70pts halfway through the season) would be ridiculously hard to surpass from 172pts. 24pts, an impossibility.

tl:dr, Rob played the best Snooker he's ever played last night to finish a wonderful season and guarantee a mega drinking binge on the trophy presentation night. :D

On to the Top 4 Playoffs now. Lets have the double!
