People seem to forget that most songs are about love and heartbreak. Yeah, she's a lot less subtle about it than most, but a lot of people write/perform songs about it. If anything, they're the easiest songs to write and perform, and the easiest to listen to, no matter who it is who performs them~

I think it's because it's still not quite hard hitting in the way that it could be. If heartbreak is approached in the right way it can be a really powerful topic but with her it just feels like another song.

Even in the same pop style it doesn't hit like say Adele, despite how overplayed her songs were Someone Like You and Set Fire To The Rain were very good executions of pop songs.

I guess it comes down to interpretation of lyrics and relatability but at the same time the production can help volumise the lyrics and singing's impact too. Another reason I picked Adele as an example because she has that blend of almost a minimalistic approach meets loud sections to really envoke the emotions.

All this music talk makes me really wish I could have got into music as a career path tbh
