Now, before I tell you how to access these beasts, I have a disclaimer: Pkmn.net, T-man or anyone and anything in relation is not responsible for damage to games. Try at your own risk. In English, that means, if you try the tricks and it screws up your game, it is not our fault. If you are OK with this, read on.
To reach these place fillers, you will need a Pokémon Blue or Red Originals, A gameboy of some sort, able to play Gameboy Original, something that can fly and something that can surf. Also, if you have a MasterBall, Rare Candy Nugget or other wanted things, put it in your sixth slot.
- Go talk to the Old Man who gives you a lecture on how to catch a Caterpie. He's in Viridian City.
- Fly to Cinnabar Island.
- Go East to the small strip of water near the Gym.
- Surf. Go Up and Down. Never go past the turn or further out then the first water square on the East side of Cinnabar.
- Keep on going until you find a wild Pokémon.
If It’s MissingNo:
Congrats. Your Hall of Fame is now messed up. Do not worry, that is the extent of it. It just is now all blocky and odd. Sometimes, you find a Mew in your party at time of Elite four beating. (Pity it does not REALLY exist).
Capture it. If you will see, it knows Water Gun, Water Gun and Sky Attack. Yes, that is right, Water Gun and Water Gun. And here is a little tidbit: It’s Bird/Normal. Yes, BIRD and Normal. Explained later.
If It’s M':
You just found MissingNo’s, Meaner, Glitcher and Meaner brother. When encountered, your game is saved. It causes the craziest Hall Of Fame Records. Capturing, and walking around with it causes even crazier Hall Of Fame records. No, ‘M is not Mew after being ripped out of the game. Now, if Ye is willing and attempts to capture it, beware. Why? After capturing it, you’re STILL be battling it. Capturing it again results in a Ditto of the same level (0 or 80) Don’t worry, It’s a normal Ditto. Storing M' in your "Bill’s PC" will cause the game to freeze whenever you try withdrawing anything.
So why does Missingno appear?
When the game starts the demo of the Old Man, it needs to set the player's name to OLD MAN. The programmers decided to use a slot for wild Pokémon encounters to temporarily store the player's selected name, which would not normally matter, since the data is rewritten everytime a new area with wild Pokémon is entered. However, the coast along Cinnabar Island does not have any wild Pokémon data associated with it, thus it uses the data it currently holds, which happens to be your name. Cue chaos.
Final Information
Q: Why is MissingNo BIRD/Normal?
A: Because, it was used to test all the other Pokémon in the Beta days. Originally, in testing, Flying was Bird. Because the game freak people never thought MissingNo or ‘M could be accessed, they never changed/removed it.
Q: And why did I put a rare/wanted thing in my 6th slot?
A: Check it. You now have 128 more of it. Useful No?
Q: And why did it do that?
A: I truly haven’t the slightest idea why. Something to do with the Hex programming.
Q: Why is MissingNo named MissingNo?
A: Because, it was a Hex holder (Why they left it in) But because it was Never given a number, it is MISSING Number (Missing No.)
Thanks to T-Man for this!
