So I'm having crazy WiFi problems...
« on: November 16, 2013, 09:36 »
Hi. Since about three days ago, my WiFi doesn't seem to work.I'm using a Nexus 7 tablet and seemingly have 4 bars of connection strength, meaning it should work perfectly. Instead it will not work for about half an hour, then work for Five minutes, then repeat, despite saying it has 4 bars of signal.

The internet worked perfectly before. Is anyone else having this problem? (Note: I'm using Sky Broadband)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I know that usually solves everything but...

• Turned tablet off and on again. No luck.
• Turned wireless broadband router off and on again. No luck.
• Turned WiFi connection to my tablet off and on again. No luck.

Gaaaaaahhhh.

If you mean my tablet, I've had it for about eight months. It never used to do this, and the WiFi worked fine on it before.

I have TalkTalk Broadband and once it went down for days... this was before I realised that when you restart it you're supposed to press the WPA button as well... could it be that you've rebooted your broadband and there's a button you were supposed to press but didn't?

Doubt it. It was having these problems before I rebooted it, and after I did it just went back to screwing up again.

first off, the "four bars" is nonsense. it's different for everything. for example, on my laptop sat in this very position, wifi gives me five bars. on my netbook, three bars. in the exact same position.

you may have to do a factory reset, as your memory on the tablet may be taking up too much. either that, or uninstall some programs you don't use anymore to free up some ROM. another thing, close and programs you have open so you have that extra RAM space. this is pretty much all i can remember from my dad talking about wifi problems a while ago so ye

does the wifi only drop on your tablet? what about other wireless things, do they connect? does the wired internet drop intermittently

do you have access to the router's innards (i.e. the software) and are there lots of other wireless points nearby? if you're all on the default channel (can't remember if its 11) it tends to get awful busy and its like an argument on smogon tiering with everyone yelling and nothing productive happening and it just goes up and down forever

Good news. Since about 10pm last night, the WiFi has managed to stay on until now, which is fourteen hours later over here. Hopefully that means it fixed itself. Not sure how exactly but I'm not complaining :D
