Character #2: Kyle Steinmar
« on: January 10, 2008, 03:42 »
Name: Kyle Steinmar
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Description: Standing 5'10" and weighing in at 180 lbs, Kyle looks like your average teenager. He has brown eyes behind rounded rectangular glasses and light brown hair that messes quickly, even if it's just been brushed. Without his glasses, the world goes fuzzy and he can't read anything more than 7" from his face. He wears a fleecy red front-zipper vest over a light gray T-shirt as well as blue jeans and white sneakers. Around his neck is a teal colored stone, a graduation present from his parents.
Personality: If this were D&D, you could say that Kyle has high intelligence but low wisdom. He knows a lot of things, but how or when to use that knowledge fails him. He isn't very strong either. He is however, confident and loyal. To him, his pokemon are the only friends he's ever had, and so he relies heavily on them to make up for his various shortcommings. He hates to lose and will come up with brilliant strategies and tactics to help him win. Overall, he's a kind and friendly guy who likes to help people.
History: Kyle comes from Cianwood, in the west of Johto. His first memory is almost drowning in the waters near thw Whirl Islands during a family boating trip. A Magikarp saved his life by keeping his head above the water and bringing him back to his family's boat. Ever since, the two have been insperable, the boy even catching it so he could take it with him to the Pokemon Academy when he was 8. Although everyone laughed at him and made fun of him for 'such a pathetic pokemon,' he perservered, stunning everyone with a Magikarp that knew Hidden Power. Upon graduation at age 10, said pokemon evolved. The two had many adventures as he worked his way up the ranks to the very gates of the Pokemon League. Sadly, it was not meant to be, and after a very close match against the Champion, Kyle came up short. Resolving to do better next time, the young trainer set out for his country's neighbour to the East: Kanto. There he hopes to get stronger and once again return to the league, this time a Champion. He occasionally gets presents from his parents.
Friends: Minato Kizue (childhood friend currently attending the Johto Pokemon Academy[16yo]) Alder Syklar (more like a mentor, someone with experience to help him)
Enemies: Alphonse Rockbell (more of a rival than an enemy, but he'd never admit it)
Pokemon:

On Hand

Gyarados-Alice(Female)[Pokeball]
[Intimidate]
Tackle, Hidden Power, Bite, Dragon Rage, Leer, Twister, Ice Fang, Aqua Tail, Rain Dance, Hydro Pump, Dragon Dance, Hyper Beam, Thunderbolt, Dragon Pulse, Surf, Whirlpool, Waterfall, Dive
Alice the Magikarp was Kyle's first pokemon, having saved his life when he was 3. The two became inseperable. During their time at the Pokemon Academy, the two were ridiculed until they showed their stuff during a test where they were required to battle a classmate. It was during this battle that Alice displayed the ability to use the attack Hidden Power. Upon graduation from the Academy, she evolved. She is Kyle's second strongest pokemon and is ready for any challenge. Alice will protect her trainer at all costs.
Typhlosion-Blaze(Male)[Pokeball]
[Blaze]
Tackle, Leer, Smokescreen, Ember, Quick Attack, Flame Wheel, Defense Curl, Swift, Lava Plume, Flamethrower, Sunny Day, Shadow Claw, Overheat
Kyle's second pokemon was the leader of a pack of Quilava terrorizing a small farm near Olivine City. He's a proud pokemon that doesn't like to lose. Respects Kyle as he's the only one to beat the fire pokemon (aside from Johto's champion). Blaze will set his trainer on fire if he ever tries to give in or struggles in battle for whatever reason (wants Kyle to give his all, no matter the circumstances).
Kirlia-Marco(Male)[Cherish Ball]
[Synchronize]
Growl, Confusion, Double Team, Teleport, Lucky Chant, Magical Leaf, Calm Mind, Psychic, Imprison, Future Sight, Shadow Ball
In Goldenrod City, Kyle passed by the radio tower and found they were holding a contest with a pokemon as a prize. He wasn't interested and no one was able to solve the puzzle. The manager spotted him and coerced him into trying it himself. Reluctantly, he gave it a shot and solved it in record time. He was then given the choice of 1 of 3 red colored pokeballs. Inside the one he chose was the pokemon Ralts from the far away Hoenn region. Marco is kind and helpful, usually bowing when he meets someone. Has always had a fascination with Kyle's pendant...
Onix-Deidara(Male)[Heavy Ball]
[Sturdy]
Mud Sport, Tackle, Harden, Bind, Screech, Rock Throw, Rage, Rock Tomb, Sandstorm, Slam, Rock Polish, DragonBreath, Iron Tail, Protect, Earthquake, Dig, Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Rock Climb
The only pokemon that can actually be considered caught without a reason. Whereas all his others had events that led up to their capture, Kyle saw an Onix in a cave and decided to catch it. As for a personality, it seems like a loner who is secretly glad to have friends.
Charizard-Flarefang(Male)[Pokeball]
[Blaze]
Scratch, Growl, Ember, Metal Claw, Dragon Rage, Scary Face, Fire Fang, Slash, Wing Attack, Flamethrower, Fire Spin, Heat Wave, Flare Blitz, Fly, Dragon Claw, Fire Blast, Blaze Blast, Air Slash
Although Kyle's strongest pokemon, Flarefang is wild and unruly, rarely listening to him. It does what it wants regardless of the consequences. Like all Charizard, it has a streak of pride and refuses to fight weak opponents. It seemed as if he was finally listening to his trainer during the battles at the Pokemon League, but it turns out that was only because it knew the opponents were strong. He has since returned to ignoring Kyle. The boy hasn't mentioned to anyone how he came across this powerhouse.
Lairon-(Male)[Pokeball]
[Rock Head]
Tackle, Harden, Mud Slap, Headbutt, Metal Claw, Iron Defense, Roar, Take Down, Iron Head, Protect, Metal Sound

In Storage

Dragonair-Winry(Female)[Luxury Ball]
[Shed Skin]
Wrap, Leer, Thunder Wave, Twister, Dragon, Rage, Slam, Agility, Aqua Tail, Dragon Rush, Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Shock Wave, Dragon Dance
Winry sees herself as Alice's rival for Kyle's attention. She works hard to be stronger and better than the Gyarados. This probably stems from when they met. During the dragon pokemon's travels, she stopped to rest near a lake. However, the native Gyarados didn't take kindly to this and began rampaging, damaging a nearby city as well. The townsfolk were clueless to the cause, but one boy decided to go find the problem: Kyle. He found the injured Dragonair and showed it he wanted to help. Much to it's surprise, the boy used his own Gyarados to stop those that rampaged. As he tried to leave, she curled around him and cuddled him, so he used his recent gift from his parents to capture his new friend.

Key Items:
-Mini Telescope
Allows him to see up to 343 feet away. Water and Fog proof. Helps him when he gets lost to find signs of civilization.
-Spare Glasses
Knowing that you're practically blind without your glasses, of course you're going to get spares just in case...

UPDATE: Has formed an opinion of Alphonse and Alder

UPDATE: Sorta...Decided to include an except from an RP I kinda fell out of but had connections to Kyle.

Minato sat at the end of one of the tables, eating quietly. He didn't know anyone, so he kept to himself. All around him, people talked and laughed, all the while stuffing their faces. The cries of pokemon echoed as well. He just hoped things wouldn't erupt in chaos...
"Hey, did you hear? They say that the 'youngest trainer to graduate from Johto's Pokemon Academy'...He-"
"Challenged the pokemon League, I know..."
Th conversation pricked the blonde trainer's ear. They could only be talking about...
"Kyle Steinmar, that was his name, right?"
"Yeah. They say he entered the Academy when he was 8 and graduated two years later!"
"You're kidding, two years?!"
"Yeah. Apparently he only had one pokemon through the whole time as well, a Magikarp!"
"No way!"
"Yes way! Even more amazing, he beat the Elite Four!"
"Shut up!"
"I'm serious! Bruno, Will, Koga, and Karen! He beat them all! He then went up against the champion, Lance from Blackthorn!"
"How'd he do?"
Minato listened closely. He'd never actually gotten word of Kyle's whereabouts since he'd left Cianwood after getting Old Man Chuck's gym badge.
"They both went down to their last pokemon, but Lance came out on top." His heart sunk and he stopped listening. His best friend had beaten the Elite Four and came so close to becomming the champion. So much from the guy who'd almost drowned as a kid.
"And what am I to that...?" He muttered under his breath.

So I'm gonna include Minato Kizue as a friend NPC who attends the Johto Pokemon Academy

Kyle has caught a Lairon in Diglett's Cave. As of yet, no name has been given, nor has it's personality been revealed.
