Seriously, the magnitude system is defined such that smaller numbers are brighter stars. A star of V band magnitude 12 is brighter than a star of V band magnitude 24. Why?

Dude ikr! Stars can be so weird to calculate. Like, the smaller the star the quicker it burns through its hydrogen so the brighter it appears iirc. But yeah! Have fun with that!
