While making a sandwich, I realized that if a tomato is really a fruit, then ketchup is a jam.
What if oxygen is poisonous... And is slowly killing us, therefore making us die of "Old age"?
oxygen IS poisonous. or at least nasty stuff, our white blood cells use it to kill intruders and it is also used to kill and control cancer. its one of the most reactive elements out there, which is why it rusts iron, fuels fire and turns food rancid. but because theres so much of it we learned to make use of its reactivity and depend on it. similar to how rare elements on earth are poisonous to us. but too high a concentration of oxygen will do more harm than good. unless youre an insect (roaches raised in oxygen-rich environments grow to be twice the size as usual, and back in ye olde times with heapo oxygen there were dragonflies the size of birds of prey... ahh <3). what was i talking about?oh right yeah. thing is, "old age" death is attributed to something specific, like heart failure or respiratory problems, so youd need to look into underlying causes in more detail. however, iirc oxygen can cause damage to dna, as does uv radiation (sunlight) and pretty much everything that youre exposed to over time. ie everything. which causes protein abnormalities and cell damage/mutations.the daily mail was right after all, everything is deadly. its a nice thing to have as a tumblr-post-titbit though. so long as some lumbering no-fun oaf doesnt ruin it by being Boring, ew who even invited that guy.
