This always happens!

I'm starting to play pokemon crystal, but I can't decide what my last pokemon should be! Why does this always happen?!

I have:

Typhlosion

Noctowl

Granbull

Azumarril

Miltank

Anyone have any suggestions?

RULES:

Nothing I can only get in a trade.

No unobtainable pokemon in Crystal. here is a list of unobtainable pokemon in Crystal

No legendarys (kanto or johto)

I will except kanto and johto pokemon. Don't care much.

I don't know how good they are in gen 2, but I've always been a big fan of Murkrow and Misdreavus.

from what i remember you cant actually get either until kanto, which is the reason i cry myself to sleep at night

Ah, you're right. That's annoying. In that case I'd maybe suggest a ground type to cover Noctowl and Azumarill's weakness to electric? You could also do with an ice type to deal with Claire and Lance, although I suppose you could just give your Azumarill ice-beam or something.

Maybe butterfree.... Or ariados....

well i was going to say omastar or kabutops but then i noticed neither are obtainable in crystal. gosh darn it. im surprised that the mareep line is apparently unobtainable there, though. i was so sure i'd had it

so i suggest nidoking or queen. king's more attack based, queen's more defensive (however thats from experience in 4th gen - it may not be relevant to crystal).

also sylar murkrow is available in johto's safari zone in soul silver, as is misdreavus. have encountered both and caught both (albeit the murkrow was actually a trade from HG but i still found one in the wild so that counts right).

alternatively if the nidos dont work for you, go for butterfree. the psychic may help, though i cant vertify how good butterfree is in crystal

I'm looking at umbreon. Maybe.....

Also, if it was unobtainable, I would have a mareep.

Out of the ones you've suggested, I'd personally go for one of the nidos or umbreon. As much as I like the idea of bug types, they were always too frail for my liking. As I said, the nidos would give you coverage over electric, but then umbreon's a pretty cool pokemon too so really it's your choice.

Also, side note, misdreavus needs to be in more games and closer to the beginning of them. As much as I love it and mismagius, I've never actually had the chance to raise one.

 I get a Nidoran female and raise that until I get a umbreon!
