Poland was just the spark.

50. I was on about it being the spark that lit the fuse, obviously there were other reasons but the invasion of Poland was the tipping point.

The same goes for our old friend Franz Ferdinand, there was tension before his assassination too. as I remember my History teacher said: there were 3 fuses and one spark.

51. I think Poland was sort of the last straw - Chamberlain allowed Hitler to invade everywhere else, but when they went for Poland he decided he'd had enough.

52. That's a pretty awful analogy, if I'm honest.

Fuses take a while to reach the bomb which detonates, and so the 'spark' would be several years before the war.

Of course this analogy works perfectly if you see that Franz Ferdenads murder was the reason for both WWs...

53. Dick, you didn't know what a noun was until an hour ago, you don't have the right to insult other people's analogies...

55. The point that my teacher was getting across wasn't about the time it took for the fuse to detonate it was more about it being the event that marked the start of the war, instead of the assassination happening, then something else and THEN the war. it was just the assassination and then war.

However I do agree that Franz Ferdinand's assassination caused both wars, in effect because obviously if WW1 didn't happen then WW2 wouldn't have either... and if it had it wouldn't be called WW2 ;)

57. Well what else would the Second World War to take place be called? World War B?

8. Well you should know what continent Argentina is in...

What continent is Argentina in, Dick?

(Is this too easy or too hard?)
