Loved that masculism thread a few days ago, really agree with some of the points, it lit up a few points that I never knew about too. Guys aren't allowed to defend themselves when assaulted by a girl/woman? Never been in that situation but wow, the world is messed up.

Frankly if the worst thing that can happen to "teh menz" is having a girl hit them and society frowning upon them for retaliating then you should all count yourselves quite lucky.

And for magikarp's sake I hope this is serious and not just 'oppress womens rights' barely hidden under smart words. I'm all for equal gender's rights (so not feminism, either), but half the stuff I've seen on this is 'all (r word) is never (r word) because you were ASKING FOR IT even though you're wearing a hoodie and pants and not flirting with anyone at all' and 'stop being a liar that never happened you enjoyed it now have the baby'.

Then again, it's probably the half I've seen if it originated from /b/, but still. I could be wrong.

I'll admit that the point you brought up is the one of the only ones they tend to bring up on /b/ since, in all fairness, a lot of the people on there are really, really, really weird - I don't really know why I brought up the guys not being allowed to fight back point, it was the only one I remembered I suppose :T

But Sylar what you just said seemed pretty mean, especially seeing how tolerant this site is towards people with all sorts of different backgrounds and origins, I mean, the fact that I go on /b/ and you sorta judged me by it seems a bit low.

We live in a society that focuses on teaching women "how to not be raped" rather than teaching men "not to rape". Go figure.

woop just thought i may as well mention that bc part of ~rape culture~ is male victims of rape not being taken seriously because all men want sex all the time with everybody apparently and in some peoples books its fine to mock/disbelieve them if they dont. 
and also the fact that in the UK rape is only legally defined as rape if its penetration, which excludes women-raping-men from it further ololol. 
not to mention women-raping-women, as although sexual assault with penetration carries the same possible max sentence as legally-defined rape, any other kind of sexual assault has a lesser sentence because who cares about that?? 
 
i think there DOES need to be more emphasis on defining the boundaries of rape, get consent worked out and basically hammer into everyones head that You Shouldnt Push Yourself On Somebody and If They Say No Then Dont etc etc. 
there also needs to be less of an atmosphere designed to make women in particular scared. 
most rapes dont take place when walking down an unlit road in the middle of nowhere. 
a lot of other crimes are more likely, towards both genders, but women are the ones expected to be cautious and afraid of rape in particular, even though on the flip-side men are the victims of most violent crimes. 
there is a disproportionate amount of "BE AFRAID!" and rape against women used as drama in tv shows, whether in conjunction with murder or not. 
which can lead a lot of people to dislike and worry about men even more, despite the fact that fear of something doesnt equal how much you should fight against something all of the time, as anybody with an anxiety disorder or phobia can attest to. 
 
not that caution isnt sometimes necessary for everyone! 
obviously theres a balance that has to be gained. 
because if you put too much focus on "teaching not to rape"... well, idk about anybody else but i dont trust criminals to not be criminals just because somebody tells them not to. 
no matter how much education there will be, there will be a lot of people who know that what theyre doing is wrong and who dont care. 
so its a v good thing to not say things like "they were asking for it" bc of inebriation/clothing/past sexual history and for everyone to have it hammered into their head that a) its ok not to want sex and b) you shouldnt insist on it if they dont want it. 
BUT! 
some people follow that logic along to where if you mention that people should take precautions (particularly women) such as not drinking yourself insensible when youre alone and out, not going to particular places at a particular time alone, etc etc... then apparently thats perpetrating rape culture instead of just being a sensible precaution. 
hell i wouldnt do those things because like i said, i dont trust criminals not to be criminals. 
if i WAS the victim of a crime then the thought of "well at least i know it wasnt actually my fault" wouldnt retroactively stop it from happening. 
if you leave your door unlocked then it doesnt mean that its your fault you got robbed, but the fact remains that if you hadnt done that then it would have been much less likely to happen. 
(but saying that to some people earns the response of "youre insinuating that women are property!" and aaargh there goes the point of the analogy flying over their head). 
these are the same people who, i hope unintentionally, encourage the idea that "all men are rapists, all women are victims" which is... ok i dont even need to state why thats a problem for both men and women, surely. 
 
basically some people on the internet take a good idea and way of thinking and completely ruin it. 
which is applicable to everything.

uh yeah anyway id call myself an egalitarian, and p much agree with fixing rights for both women and men. 
 
although i see a lot of people repeating that feminism is intended to be "equality for both genders", the fact that its name suggests its exclusively for women does attract a lot of mad people. 
those people are then called "radfems" instead of just "nutters" and arent explicitly distanced from the movement by everyone with their heads screwed on. 
then again i guess it doesnt matter what people are calling themselves, so long as what they believe is all nice and equal. problem is that its difficult getting people to listen if theyre operating under a flag thats known to be held by crazies. 
i mean im 100% all for people having their own beliefs and opinions, but my personal beliefs and opinions are that radical feminists are pants on head insane about the whole thing, and that responding to people calling out their misandry by laughing about male tears isnt useful! 
 
im not even going to get started on the dudebro nutters in the mens rights side of things, think it was covered in this topic enough anyway. 
radfems and dudebros, a match made in heaven. 
 
lets just say that theyre both the extremes of two things which have good standing, but the crazy people are the loudest so thats who end up representing the movements. 
 
tl;dr 
dear the internet 
it would be nice if both feminism and mens rights were taken seriously, and if the unreasonable people on both sides werent often the spokespeople for the movements. also please call both of them out for being unreasonable equally often. 
and if you could stop thinking that if someone supports one side then it means that they automatically disagree with the other, that would help things a whole bunch.

PS if anyone thinks that womens rights should be taken away, or that men have no disadvantages in society at all, or that feminism only exists bc bitter women want to oppress men, or that mens rights only exists because men are butthurt, then they should have their heads bashed together.

ok I guess I should made my post a bit less gender specific, I didn't mean to trivialise male rape or act like it doesn't happen or whatever. What I guess I meant to say is that for rape society is too quick to victim blame whether male or female, like the perpetrator is some kind of weak creature that simply cannot resist temptation and how dare you put it in their way!!! (despite the fact rape isn't even about sex but that's another post)
