After reading this I'm so confused to why everyone hates maths so much. To me, it's just so much fun and I don't really understand how it could not be fun.

That's something that confused me- Why did I learn trigonometry in school if I don't need it?
Don't be silly Milsap, everyone knows that everybody uses trigonometry every day in the real world.

Yeah, I mean EVERYONE knows that you don't play on a PS3, you find the size of the angles on the triangle button!

lets all go out for some frosty chocolate milkshakes

the only reason i hate trigonometry is because im angry at how cool it'd be if i was good at it tbh because maths is hella neat

^yeah some of it
i mean other than the fact i want to cry while doing it its cool

so i'm in this convo on skype and i keep adding the chat history to the title (as i'd asked for title ideas) so it's ended up as

I don't hate it, but I wouldn't call it fun either. Atm, I kinda find it boring because everything just seems so obvious.

I know loads of people do find it hard, but I'm honstly confused at how tbh.

Maths is hard because I always forget all the processes and stuff. If I had a perfect memory for it I'd be good at maths

The Shrub Dragon

tbh i actually kind of like using numbers and finding solutions and stuff, just not in GCSE higher tier papers when i'm unprepared and everything is triangles.

it's the third day and i am still confused about trigonometry.

thanks gl <3

A Level was hard and made me dislike it

Well, I made it hard for myself since I spent 6th Form getting pissed and posting on here whoops

Haha I can understand that. I'm doing fast track a-level maths, it can be a bit much at times (especially stats), but it's the challenge that's fun.

As long as you stay on top of it you'll be fine =]
Stats wasn't too rough for me at the time (was kinda tough at Uni though), Mechanics was my problem

Masters student chiming in to say that it very, very quickly can fall into the realms of Not Fun, especially the branches you don't specialise in =P

you leave school like "awww yeah I'm so good at maths, me"
and then uni happens and you're like "wow I can not actually do any of the maths"

I mean don't get me wrong my subject is awesome and beautiful and mind blowingly nifty whether or not I can do it
and roughly 50% of the time I adore it
but man that other 50% of the time
that's when this happens in your exam

I have a feeling a few people here might enjoy this:

http://mathwithbaddrawings.com/

(Or maybe I'm too much of a geek...)

I find I use trig quite a lot, but then that's for making bond angles etc in my atomic models correct, and checking buckling angles in said models after they've relaxed.

Generally, you'll find that as you go on in maths (at least in my experience from physics / chemistry), actual numbers will become less important. Sure you might need them for constants (but those often get set to 1 anyway, see atomic units), but otherwise you tend to not see much other than the number 2...

I still hate differential vector calculus, and never really understand div and curl.
