This seemed to be taking over another thread, so I decided to make a separate thread for this discussion.

Nintendo managed to stuff 151 pokemon, their stats, moves, all the characters and other stuff into a small cartridge like this:

I've seen the inside of the Gold/Silver/Crystal cartridges before, I don't have any pictures though.

Yeah.

How can something so big be stored on something so small? The Gold/Silver/Crystal games were the only ones so far that had more than 8 gyms.

Surely with the way that the games have slowly evolved, they could fit more that 8 (or 16 in Gold/Silver/Crystal) gyms in a single game.

Yeah, and the fact that those games has the time on it, and is never wrong (even if you've turned the game off) how do they do it??? I think 8 gyms are enough! But I guess they could put more gyms if they could put all that crap in it! Lol!

It's not so surprising how small the games are and are able to store a lot of info. Micro SD cards can store gigabytes.

Those cartridges could only hold a maximum of 8mb though.

QuoteThe Gold/Silver/Crystal games were the only ones so far that had more than 8 gyms.

They had to strip down some aspects of Kanto though to save space. I'm guessing that R/B/Y only used a 3 or 4mb chip while G/S/C used a slightly bigger one.

The music (MIDI files) are tiny, which helps.

The cartridges have a small watch battery in them that keeps the game in a permanent on state (also how you can save). There is also one built into the motherboard of your laptop which is how your computer always knows what the time is.

it was snapped in half and the battery died, some other damage to the circuits. game was 'playable' for a few more days, but wouldnt save or hold the time of day/night (it got stuck at night i think). after that, my consoles stopped reading the game entirely.

but tbh she did go heel first. she was wearing a solid heel.
