Why were big blue guys that sing songs about friendship imprisoned in lamps? And why lamps of all random things?

I guess it's because there's big red guys that sing songs about how much you suck!

Well, a solid ten minutes of googling has told me the idea comes from arabian nights, which is perhaps unsurprising. The story of aladdin was in fact the first tale to include a lamp, but there were others that included genies (or jinnis, apparently what theyre called there) in brass objects and stuff.

Is there a reason why lamps were specifically chosen?

Captain Jigglypuff

Story plot. Lamps were important item back then and lit for light. In the original Aladdin, he accidentally rubbed the lamp while trapped in the cave and a genie came out of it. His mother then tried to clean the lamp because it was dirty and when she rubbed it, a different genie popped out. Objects can have multiple genies in them but they only answer to one master. Aladdin also had a ring that contained another genie who took him to the palace and the princess and lamp after they were taken away and transported to another place.

Somehow the wires uncrossed.
The tables were turned.
Never knew I had such a lesson to learn.

Itty bitty living space!

Seriously though, would you want to be stuck inside a lamp for years?

TEN THOUSAND YEARS can give you such a crick in the neck!

Never fails! You get in the bath, and there's a rub at the lamp!

The genie's been in the lamp for OVER 9000!!!

Maybe because a brass lamp is one of the least impressive treasures in a cave full of gold, so it's like a diamond in the rough in the same way Aladdin is? Still seems a  bit random tho lmao

I just remembered how Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land had a genie and a lamp in it. Just saying.
